In 1938, the comic strip The Captain and the Kids (Rudolph Dirks' parallel version of his own strip The Katzenjammer Kids) was adapted by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, becoming the studio's first self-produced film series of 15 theatrical cartoon shorts directed by William Hanna, Bob Allen, and Friz Freleng.
The 12th episode the captains Christmas released December 17, 1938. Directed by Friz Freleng  and voiced by Billy Bletcher.

Cartoons in the 30s definitely had racial under tones Bugs bunny and droopy have a few deleted scenes out there with black face and whatnot
