What do you think of the blue - I want to go for it in blue but nervous - looks good in some videos and pics and then looks either too much or too weak in others. Local dealer only has one car (in white) so it's a bit of a punt on other colours

Worth noting: The short (standard) range version uses an LFP battery which is safer, cheaper, better for the environment - and can be charged to 100% on the regular with very little degradation over the years. Also, it was designed so that the battery can be relatively easily replaced. Something that I see as future-proofing since you could theoretically replace it with a totally new battery tech in the future, if one becomes available.

I have a standard range SE on order, hopefully for delivery before the year is out. I believe the standard range battery is LFP chemistry. No one talks about this battery that is also found in the Tesla 3 standard range. It takes twice as many charge/discharge cycles as the usual NCM batteries in its life time, is less of a fire hazard and generally a lot more durable. Great reviews by the way, many thanks.

Standard Range 51 kWh is LFP, the 64 kWh battery is conventional Li-Ion. Standard Range can only be loaded AC with 1 phase., in Germany this is only 3,5 kW. The 64 kWh battery can load AC 3-phase. LFP has advantages, but less Winter suitabiliy. I live in southern Bavaria and I have ordered the 64 kWh battery. I will be able to load with 11 kW at home.

Always enjoy your reviews Nobby. Literally just this last week I placed an order for a Trophy with 16 week delivery. Like you and many other car reviewers I was totally knocked out by the test drive. Smooth acceleration, excellent handling and certainly quick enough (bearing in mind I can compare my present car which is an Audi S3). Many say the interior quality is poor but yet again I felt it was perfectly adequate bearing in mind the extremely good value purchase price. My only concern now is a few reports are coming in from new owners about oil leaks and warped under trays. Some garages are suggesting the oil leak it is due to overfill. I really hope this is the case and if not that they will issue a recall and get it all sorted before I get mine. I would be sad to have to cancel my order.

A very honest, real-world review of a car that’s obviously going to win a lot of friends and buyers quickly! I’d take this over an ID3 and a few others, for sure; still prefer the Niro - but that’s just my opinion of course. Most buyers will go for this MG4 at potentially £7.5k or more cheaper than the Kia. And THAT’s one of the few key things that the EV market was crying out for!

I’m glad you reviewed the basic car because it just shows you what you can get for the money. This is the car that the id3 should have been but isn’t. As a brand I never thought much of them….cheap and nasty but this car will turn heads and with that 7 year warranty they really have a winner. 21kWh per 100 miles/2.1kWh for ten miles then? That’s a meagre 210 Watts per mile, which is very very good. Not an average of course, which so far has the Model 3 up at 250Wh per mile, which is about the best sort of figure I have heard. Some others are in that ball park, and big SUV types are up at a third of a kWh per mile or even more depending on circumstances. Anyway, thanks for this, once I turn my house into a power station I will look at EVs seriously. Take care all.

Funny, like the orange but unlikely to plump for Exclusive/Trophy spec. The blue doesn't look bad and comes at no extra cost afaik but, due to it being "flat", I'm wondering will it become meh over time. The grey looks nice but there are sooo many grey cars out there that the red started to look intriguing .. not quite Mazda Soul Crystal but not far off it either. Hmmm 1st world problems 😉

Is there anyone here in Ireland with MG4 long range/ high trim who could confirm that 7kW charger? According to MG UK and Ireland are only getting 7 in all versions, but I've seen number of people in UK stating that long range/ trophy is charging at 10kW from AC which is clearly showing 11kW onboard charger even MG doesn't know about 😅

I understand you only got maybe a few hours with the car. But, the facts that you got wrong are proof that you did little to no research on the car beforehand. Maybe try and make voice-overs with B-roll and talk through the specs correctly while putting in the driving impressions with A-roll footage. It would greatly improve your production and let the viewers decide on the look and feel while you shower them with specs. Heatpump info, no alloy wheels and the placement of the daytime running lights are details that shouldn't be missed.

it doesn't matter how good the car is ' as you say ' because the fuel cost is more than ice now on runs. Shell recharge is now 85p per kwhr, that equates to about 21 p per mile, 5p per mile more than my large diesel car. Then there is the range and charging time. No not worth the hassle as your only car because you will have to spend hours charging, slow long distance journey times, more expensive to run long distance and more expensive to buy, so why would you. There is no advantage now buying an electric car at all, unless you are a polar bear hugger.

  • @NobbyOnCars

This car is cheaper than similar petrol cars to buy. You can charge a car for €0.09 per kWh, public chargers are rarely used by EV drivers. The odd time on longer journeys is about the size of it. By all means keep your diesel though, I don’t think electric or any one form of fuel is the solution to be honest.

I run my Cupra Born for approx €20 per month with home charging, I was spending upwards of €60 per week on petrol for the same mileage in previous car, 2019 Seat Leon. Of course its going to be expensive if you depend on fast chargers all the time.
