A quick look of the new 2024 MG3 Hybrid +, a car set to take on competitors such as the Clio E-Tech, Suzuki Swift & Mazda2.
The previous MG3 was still in it's first generation but on a facelift, in the competitive European supermini segment, it could win on budget but on not much else. This new model aims to be fun to drive, efficient and with much more tech than previously.

A great looking car Sam. I would certainly consider one. 🙂

Interesting placement of the 12v battery. Think MG are onto a winner with this new MG3 hybrid.

MG have hit this correctly, the existing 3 is too small a car to make it an EV and what with the downturn in EV sales in the UK, people wanting the best of both worlds, EV in towns ICE for main long distance driving, this is the way forward for a small car. Toyota, Nissan and MG can see that petrol/electric and self charging hybrid has a big future. This car should sell well.

I agree! There is still a large portion of the market which is non-EVs, so self-charging hybrids are a good option for those not ready to make the switch. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

How bizarre - 3 speed auto sounds unusual 🤔 as you say Sam it must be some sort of cvt, perhaps like Toyota’s recent one which has a launch gear if I remember correctly… Looks like a huge improvement though and this could do really well picking up sales from the fiesta and fabia/polo now they have no diesel options. Guess it’ll mostly boil down to how MG price it 😊

It does seem like a very unique powertrain, the performance figures on paper really surprised me, hence why I want to drive it to see how it lives up to these expectations! It is so much better, pricing is expected to be under £20K which should be good. Thanks for watching and commenting Richard 👍🏻😊

Interior is pulled from the MG4. Seems utterly bizarre to me though that they'd do a hybrid after the MG4 sold so insanely well in pure electric and when all their rivals are beginning to make pure electrics in this segment.

Yes the interior is very similar to the MG4, but not quite identical. This new MG3 isn’t that much smaller than the 4, apparently they are working on an MG2 electric, I guess this new 3 is bridging the gap between their petrol and full EV range for now. Thanks for watching.

the MG interior looks better than the Dacia and the MG is cheaper than the Dacia

I agree it does feel and look more premium, however this new MG3 starts at £18,495 in the Uk which is more expensive than the Dacia Sandero.

I wouldn’t say MG was a budget brand at all. Nor do they market themselves as one. It should drive well, even the current and ancient MG3 drives and handles well it just has a rubbish engine/gearbox set up.

In the UK MG is classed as a budget brand, but I’d agree that their overall brand feel doesn’t feel as budget as say Dacia for example. It will be interesting to see how it drives, the Hybrid + powertrain, should be a winner if it’s as good as the on paper figures suggest, whilst being refined.

Another fail from MG to get the basics done right! When we they ever put a rear interior light in the small cars? Non split rear seats? Thats so 90s small car and of course no centre rear arm rest and cup holders! At least the engine seems impressive with 191hp and a massive 425nm!

  • @Carcode

I’d say they’ve come a long way in terms of quality. The seats are 60/40 split, like I mentioned most cars in this segment don’t have a rear armrest, but it would be a nice feature! Yes, hopefully the powertrain should be impressive and overall much more modern than the outgoing vehicle. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@gregb1599: You need to wake up to reality, life has moved on from the 80’s&90’s. Don’t forget Austin invented the two-thirds one-third split rear seat when the Metro first came out.

@fenderac3049 What the hell are you on about! This brand new MG3 has a solid non split rear seat in a 2024 car! I was pointing out that this car belongs in the 80s!

@@gregb1599My mistake I thought the seats were split! Yes that is a shame, hopefully it’s just something in this pre-production car, we will have to see. I think it’s unfair to say the car is stuck in the 80s though, it has tech such as 360* cameras, safety assistant systems and hybrid technology!

@Carcode And yes, that 425nm is dam impressive for a tiny hybrid, but no excuse for that back seat and no rear interior light that the MG4 also misses. Yep, hopefully, they fix those two oversights as most of the car is very impressive.
