She has the purest, most lyrical disciplined voice I have ever heard. She is and will always be my favourite!
My favorite Mezzo. So expressive.
Frederica von Stade is one of the greatest artists to ever grace an opera stage, and more importantly one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet.
A true diva in every sense of the word. And also a very down to earth person. Sensational pure voice in its prime.
She literally changed my life as a young singer when she took the time to answer a letter that I sent her as an undergrad voice student. She then invited me back stage to meet her at the Met when she was Cherubino. She didn't even know me but she was so incredibly gracious and encouraging. I am forever grateful.
Sublime voice.
She has always radiated joy, especially in music. And she's probably the only opera singer who adored Rudolph Bing!
Von Stade is one of two sopranos who when I hear her sing, it is like I am falling in love with her. So womanly, with this beautiful voice that projects a warm and kind soul. Melts the heart.
Flicka's amazing! She's the definition of a class act. I can second that she is more than kind to young aspiring singers!
Thanks a lot for posting this video!
THE GREATEST. PERIOD.
Ms von Stade seems a really down-to-earth person. Very interesting.
Beautiful lady inside and out. I have never ever heard her say anything bad about anyone. I have always felt bad about what happened to Miss Battle but at least we have her performances to watch. Too many of the greats have left us - Tebaldi, Pavarotti , Bing and Behrens which she mentioned. Miss von Stade is the quintessential Cherubino in my opinion! The Met suffered in management since Sir Rudolph Bing.
Oh My God!! Pleaso do the lullabies record!!
So true! I got to perform with her recently with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony Concert this month.
She is modest about the fact that her family is very wealthy and socially prominent. Closest she comes is saying that singing was not thought an appropriate life for her.
You know what would have been fabulous? Asking her about the filming of La Cenerentola, how she got along with Araiza and the rest of the cast, etc. :)
