Meyers Manx! World's First Fiberglass Dune Buggy - HOT ROD Unlimited Episode 23
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On this episode of Hot Rod Unlimited, Elana Scherr speaks with Bruce Meyers, the creator of the Meyers Manx dune buggy. Bruce visits the HOT ROD Studio with some restored and original Manx buggies for a photo shoot and explains the inspiration behind the development of the Manx in 1964 and its subsequent racing and cultural legacy. Then we head to the Meyers Manx headquarters, ride in an original Meyers Manx with the Manx club and take a new Dual-Sport manx on the autocross.

God bless you Bruce. And thank you. You will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Mr. Meyers. Thank you for sharing so many smiles!
I think Mr. Meyers is a very modest man. Companies spend millions designing cars that look half as good as what he worked out in his shed.
He's brilliant and delightful. We had a great time doing this video. Elana
I love these cars. I love this story.
Always thought one of these would be the ultimate urban/suburban vehicle. Soaking up potholes and brushes with curbs to fire-road blasting, these things seem damn near perfect!!
Bruce Meyer: The Inventor of the Dune Buggy . He´s a real legend in the aircooled VW World
There were so many dune buggies in pop culture. Speed Buggy and the Krofft Supershow are just two we can think of. Elana

-> They also poked fun at Speed Buggy on an episode of Futurama, by melting down Speedy Buggy & Speedy Racer & a couple other old cartoon cars. It was funny. They reversed Speed Buggy’s colors (Red/Yellow - I assume to avoid paying the copyright fees).
So Very cool,Thanks Bruce for all the Fun for so many, and thanks for making so many very cool Buggys, and being the very Great Man you are.
always loved riding in old red
Within the first 30 seconds was enough for me to hit the like button. Never happened that before. Such a committed man
I did actually get to drive the Dual Sport after we were done shooting. Fun! Elana
thank you so much for pure engine sound at the end!
thats why i love hot rod unlimited keep up the good work people thanks for showing folks that the hot rod lifestyle is more than muscle heads in muscle cars.
How cool would it be to be that guy? Really... Wow. Cheers to you Mr. Meyers, you have lived well Sir.

We're working on Roadkill every month. Thanks for sticking with us! Elana
Great story. Well done!
this is great..ive seen these buggys my whole life, and never really cared that much about them..now knowing the history behind it, i will sure pay a lot more attention when i see one
Bruce Meyers and his Family lived in Detroit MI .. His Father worked at Ford.. they moved to CA and his FAther was the first Ford Dealer in CA.. R.I.P. Bruce
I missed this one somehow! I love the Manx! I would love to build one with my kids (9,11,and 14). They love watching stuff like this, Roadkill, and MCM and helping me wrench on my grandfather's Dakota Sport. (My 9 year old replaced the wiper bushing and was SO proud watching the arms under the cowling crank!). Thanks for this one, Elana. It's the kind of video that makes me glad I subbed to MT.

Motor trend always amazes me with their informative and enjoyable videos. Thanks MotorTrend, although more roadkill would be awesome!
Thank u for giving the world 1 of its greatest pleasures ....even if u didn't get rich from it
These things look like so much fun, I knew somebody who had one back in the day (doubt it was a Manx, though), he still has it, I think I'm making progress on taking it off his hands.
Awesome video! One of the best I've seen from Motor Trend!
Excellent video! The Meyers Manx is a sharp looking vehicle!
Great piece. He seems remarkably sharp. Amazing. Fun fun car.
Loved this episode!
awsome story thanks for sharing
Thank you sir...it was fun
This was a really great video, I had no idea the Meyers mynx had so much history! And the man himself seems like a really loveable guy, if I ever get the funds to build one, no knock offs. I'm buying direct from this man.
I salute you, Bruce Meyers.
This is my spotlight car in Forza, I absolutely love this little car as it's really fun to drive.
Another name for the exhaust was/is bag of snakes. Timeless little classic.
this is bad ass - thank you elena
Love my Manx
Me and my brother and dad built a carshow meyers manx, we now have a second were working on not for show, but for speed. They have got to be one of the funnest car builds/restoration projects ever.
Cool guy! Cool car!!! Drove one in Mexico, tons of fun.
This was a great video, thanks!
Great, great video. My father built a 'Buggy before I was born, and kept it in to my 20s. I don't know what brand it was, all I know is it had a Beetle engine (as did most), with individual brake handles for the rear wheels. Ridiculous fun, that car - I'll always remember it. I'd love to build my own, with a Subaru engine, when I have time, money and most importantly, space to do it!
I have always been a fan of Air Cooled VWs, they actually got me started working on cars, the Manx is a very cool vehicle!
u know when u have made it in the car world, when Hot Wheels make a model of your car.

The Grand Theft Auto games made their own version too.
Its good to see the masses getting to know the stuff us "Muscle car" guys have been into for years. I use to get the same excitement from seeing a new issue of Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine as I do now a new HR Unlimited or Road Kill episode.
This is cool. I remember owning an all wheel drive toy one back in the 80s.
awesome, thank's
great cars, great video!
Anyone remember Speed Buggy the tv show? This made me think of that. Great cars!
Great guy, great history and great car! Thanks MT!
Love ya ! Bruce ..... !
Really cool!
Awesome!
the orange one has an EJ25 in it, from a wrx or STI. Sweet!
i totally agree! he sounds so much younger than his years...
I really want one !!
Nice video, thanks for something different
wow this a really good video, the dude is also really cool
Nice video and even nicer guy
Now that's a beach car, looks amazing car.
That sounds great. You should send photos to Bruce Meyers at meyersmanx dot-com. He told us he really likes hearing about families building the cars together. Elana
I would love to have that Meyer manx dune buggy from 1960 to 1964
Nice episode
My childhood dream :)
This old guy is a legend. !

Very cool.
Thx!
More Roadkill! but that was a wonderful video. 3 cheers!
Lovely :)
I want one of these SO BADLY.
I love my buggy they aren't lying about anything
Cool video! I have 2 videos of a 1974 Volkswagen Dune Buggy, 1600cc engine and 4-speed!
Sure would be nice to have the link to the Manx website.
Finally a car I've been in once... for a short trip.. but still.. haha :D
hell yeah, i've been playing that a lot the last few days
3:59 Damn! Turbocharger on a Buggy. That thing must move like crazy!
I built a 2380 scat based manx once very sick with the 3 4 gear change in trans. I would love to build one with a 1776 if i could find one.
Ohh,Perry also has a '67 Chevelle SS. I automatically like this guy.
It’s funny how when it showed Bruce driving the Car in his Hoodie, he straight up reminds me of my grandpa. 1: his first name is Bruce 2:He wears a gray hoodie
I own a 1970 manx buggy!!

it needs a STAN MEYER water powered motor in it! perfection!
I want with a EJ20 or EJ25 hanging out the back :D
"Tomorrow is not as important as Tomorrow's surf." HA!!
Watching this has made me realize why the Automotive industry in Australia is the way it is. In Australia we have this mentality of if it's broke just buy a new one. But as car manufacturers in Australia are seeing, people are moving to manufacturers that supply vehicles that won't die on the side of the road. It eliminates aftermarket parts manufacturers, and companies that make crap. In a way that is sad because will will live in a world where vehicles will lack any personality or soul or make a person feel like they have achieved something by owning a custom vehicle. We are slowly being sterilized.
.....are there any identifying numbers or marks on these original Manx bodies? And/or location of those marks or numbers on the body?
COOL CAR
It really surprised and pleased me to see you guys doing a special on the Meyer's Manx. I figured it would be too weird, too old, and too low-performance for anyone other than a dedicated Volkswagen nerd to care about.
damn, this old dude hit it spot on
I wanna build one :)
Better than a dam golf cart video like Auto car

I love that show!
In 1976 a friend of mine traded a restored 1954 Chevy station wagon to Bruce Meyers for a Meyers Tow'd. He then sold it to my father in law. A couple yrs later, he noticed the vin number 000000001! He offered me a 59 Plymouth w/40,000 miles ,or the Tow'd I took the Plymouth. I have no Idea where the Tow'd is today...
@KillerAudit except yesterdays vid about truck of the year lol
Elana Scherr should drive the Dune Buggy!!
