Mexico Volunteer Fire Station

Welcome to another exciting episode of Heroes Next Door - Station Cribs! In this installment, we venture to the heart of upper middle New York State to visit the extraordinary Mexico NY Fire Station. Prepare to be amazed as we take you on a captivating journey through the life and history of this incredible 100% volunteer fire company.
Joining us as our tour guide is none other than Patrick New, a dedicated firefighter and the EMS coordinator for the station. Patrick's passion for his community and the fire service shines through as he walks us through the station, revealing fascinating details about its origins and growth over the years.
This remarkable volunteer company responds to basic medical emergencies as a quick response unit, and they're equipped with some impressive fire apparatus, including a Rescue Engine, a Ladder Truck, a new Tanker/pumper, and the County's Air Unit. The dedication and commitment of the volunteers are truly commendable, and you'll be inspired to see how they come together to serve and protect their community.
If you're in the area and have ever considered assisting your community, joining the Mexico NY Fire Station might be the perfect solution. Patrick invites anyone interested to stop by on Thursday nights to fill out a simple application - no prior experience necessary. This station is all about teamwork and supporting each other in their mission to keep the community safe.
The fire station's grounds offer even more than just firefighting essentials. They've cleverly utilized their space to host their own fundraisers and community traditions like a "mini-fair." Imagine riding thrilling carnival rides, indulging in outstanding food, and enjoying some fantastic local music - all while contributing to a great cause. You won't want to miss this annual event if you ever find yourself in the area.
Before we wrap up, we'd like to extend heartfelt thanks to all our viewers. Your support is what enables Heroes Next Door to continue our journey, exploring and showcasing these remarkable fire stations across the country. Remember to like, comment, and subscribe, and don't forget to turn on your notifications so you won't miss any of our upcoming episodes.
So, join us as we uncover the untold stories of the brave men and women who serve as the Heroes Next Door - ensuring the safety and well-being of their communities, one call at a time.

Really enjoyed the video. Coming from a family of 3 generations. My dad, brother and nephew all volunteer firefighters at the same department. Fund raiders are necessary. The equipment is not cheap. Thanks young man for the tour. Thanks to each and everyone of you for your services. May God bless each and everyone.

I really miss the comradeship of my own Vol FD. I worked my way from riding the rear to Chief, then to the Commissioner. I’m so sad to see the decline of volunteerism today. My old DEPARTMENT is now all career and it kinda galls me that guys who wouldn’t volunteer, will fill job for a paycheck. The County also run an automatic Mutual Aid system for all calls in each Department to ensure sufficient manpower which still can’t fully staff a piece of apparatus at times.

Another great video, a nice station and apparatus too. The counties in Delaware do the same thing with the Hazmat/Decon units. Each county has a team of volunteers and certain companies have county owned units to respond with. Same with Collapse/USAR.

Another thing to add I think that the reason why we're seeing the last fire departments in parades and other events is because it becomes too costly with the price of fuel the increase of everything the lack of funding Nationwide it's just a problem and then not only that I think a lot of people get caught up into their everyday lives and they don't want to do a lot of extra stuff when they are off and I think if they had more people to volunteer time and if they had some of the apparatus has that could be used in parades that's what the volunteers should do but unfortunately a lot of states have just gotten rid of their volunteer firefighter programs. Which I think it's sad because that was really what drouin people from the community to help out the fire department and eventually decided they wanted to make a full-time career out of it just depending on where you are at that's why I like states that have a mixture of volunteers and full-time and part-time personnel and especially if you have to leave the state where you were volunteering at have to go to another one temporarily and then they don't have anything for you to do it sucks.

In our station we have a "wall of fame" for all former chiefs of our station (and the current one, obviously), too. One person, however, managed to get on that wall twice - and not because he ran the departement for to non-consecutive times. No, he's in the photo of his grandfather as station chief - or rather, a photo of him is in the photo of his grandfather as station chief. That is, because his grandfather had a picture of his grandchildren pinned on his helmet. You can't really make out anything in the official photograph except for a tiny piece of paper on the helmet, but it's a good test for how long volunteers have been with us. "Do you know which station chief is _technically_ up on the board twice?" :)

It's very inefficient and time-consuming for every volunteer to go to the station for a call you only need one person to drive the rig it's obviously going to be faster response time if one person gets their takes the rig to the scene and other volunteers take their personal vehicles there instead of having to go all the way to the station and wasting time forgot enough guys to get there to fill up a truck before it rolls out one guy they're roll the truck out everybody drive to the scene from their home that's the way they do it here in Michigan sometimes ships do that stupid s*** where they wait for everybody to get to the station and get on a truck and go and those people have all lost the houses that were on fire every single time one hundred percent total losses because you f****** are so goddamn slow getting to the scene
