Mexican Dads Try Japanese Food!

Ойын-сауық

In this episode, the papahs tried a few Japanese dishes! Among them were a spicy shio ramen, salmon sushi, taiyaki, takoyaki, natto beans, and unadon! Some of the dads had tried these items before, but all of them were taken by surprise when they tried natto for the first time which are fermented soybeans! Unadon was a new dish for the dads to try as well. Unadon is a barbecued eel filet served over a bed of rice. Would you try any of these foods?

Moromi-miso is a bit like nattou, but much less slimy and far more tasty. It has a delightful salty fermented flavour and none of the icky texture of nattou. It's often paired with thin slices of cucumber as an appetizer. Agedashi tofu is of the Elder Culinary Gods, possibly one of my favorite treats on this good green Earth.

The odd thing about Japanese cuisine is the fact that has very few dishes that are authentically Japanese. Ramen a CHINESE dish originally named Lamian. It came into Japan in the 1800's when Chinese people migrated into Japan. Most tofu dishes originate from China as well. As for the curry. Japanese style curry is based off European curry. Japanese people have low spice tolerance so the western variant of curry suits their tastebuds more.

Christmas isn't a holiday there but they like to celebrate it because it is fun. I think it is popular for young couples but also families with little kids. Since there is no turkey sold there (well not as widely available as the US) Chicken is the next best thing. Back in the 70s? KFC ran an aggressive ad campaign to convince people to eat there for Christmas and it has been a thing since. They aren't buying fried chicken though. I think it is rotisserie or grilled somehow and they sell different sides that are more Christmas oriented. you'll see long lines there around Christmas and I heard that you need to order way in advance. kurisumasu ni wa kentaki!
