Great review. Up until our Mevo firmware upgrade version 2.2.8B on 11/24, 2020 all went well with the following setup. From our church soundboard to my Android device I used the Rode Wireless Go with a Rode SC6 TRRS input adapter. Last night 11/25, 2020 the Android kept losing connection with the Mevo camera. This resulted a lose of audio during our Wednesday night Bible study. Since our church also has a Mevo boost, I plan to try running the Rode Wireless Go system from our soundboard to the Mevo Boost instead of my Android using the AllEasy usb analog audio adapter. Thanks again for taking the time and effort of making this video.

Great review 👏 thanks for taking the time to explain. I have the Mevo Plus I also have a Rodecaster Pro I was trying to find a solution with hooking up an external mic for better audio. I will try the Shure MVI.

Thank you for great video. The Shure interface looks good, but I'll say this -- For those of you who have had trouble with the iRig being noisy ...NOTE that the problem is likely the HEADPHONE JACK on the iPad, from what I've found out by researching this on internet and experimenting myself - not the iRig. In other words, recording through the headphone jack may just be noisy. But you can add an adapter to run iRig through the lightning port if you already own an iRig. There is a little cable you can use to go from the 3.5mm cable on the iRig (or a set of headphones) and convert it to a lightning jack to plug into iPad - Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter. (It is same kind of cable you can get to use headphones with the newer iPhones that don't have headphone jacks.) Using the iRig with that, the noise and clicking that I was getting with the headphone jack disappeared. However it is tricky getting camera apps to consistently use external audio through the lightning port on those devices. The order in which you do things matters and sometimes it still mysteriously doesn't work as expected. I found best results with turning on app, putting into video mode, THEN plugging in the audio via the lightning jack. (All that said...I've now switched to using a laptop with OBS and taking audio from my mixer via either USB or line out going into into a capture card before going to computer, plus an actual camera going into the capture card, but it is a more complicated setup than just the iPad, for sure...and has new learning curves.)

I ordered the Mevo Start and also the Shure MVI like you said. I'm planning to run off of our sound board in the church into the iPad...will that work?

Thanks. You have very informative videos. I am wondering if you could answer this question for me. I have a sound system that has lavaleers, the choir, the lectern etc.. that all go into the sound system. In the back room, I have a dedicated XLR connection that I can record all the sound the goes through the sound system. Could I simply buy the Shure MVI...then plug the XLR into it....then run it out using that proprietary cable that you talked about (5:30) into an ipad for streaming the audio. Also, since there are three primary positions that we want viewed, how do you think the mevo will work since there is an external audio source. Would it require someone directing the camera all the time? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Question: what about the irig pro duo? Do you think it has better sound (less noisey) being that it has stereo inputs?

Hi! We use a digital mixer and a Mevo camera. We tried with the Irig HD2 but didn’t work. Do you know if they aren’t compatible? Thank you.

Hi Marlon, hope you are doing well. I have a question for using the Shure MVi and Mevo Camera. When i connect the MVi to my iPhone, i need to open the MVi app for the unit to power on. However as you know the MEVO app needs to be active for recording to take place. When i open the MEVO app, the MVi has no power, even though it's still connected to my iPhone. How do you have it setup to where you have the MEVO app on your phone but can still use the MVi and monitor the sound? I hope you see my message and can help answer my question. Thank you and God bless you!

So why do u need the audio interface? why can you not just go from the mixer to the mevo or iPad controller?

Is it possibile to connect directly the audio output of the mixer console (from AUX or headphone exit) to the iPad or any tablet using its own audio input? Why an audio interface is needed? Is also possible to connect the audio of the mixer console directly to the Mevo with a cable? Or even using a Rode wireless Go which gets the audio from the mixer?

Hello, am about upgrading my audio system for my live stream using Mevo and have gone for the Shure MVi and a Behringer Xenyx 502 5 Input 2 Bus Sound Mixer Compact Audio Preamp. And wanted to know if it’s possible to show how to run the cables, I have 2 mic options, either a Rode wireless go or a Boya lavalier mic. Thanks

Need a little help, not sure I understand or maybe I missed the reason you cannot go directly from the mixer to the iPad. What is the purpose of the audio interface?

It might be headphone jack on the iPad that is the problem. That's what I found and if you look on the internet you find a lot of folks complaining about the noisy headphone jacks on newer iPads. I posted another lengthy comment about this. You may wish to try a little cable that will let you run your iRig into the lightning port before spending $130 on the Shure... Your mileage may vary however.

Thanks so much for a great video. Quick question, we are using the 3.5 trrs input on our iPad. Does the Shure MVI offer that as an option?

  • @porchstringmusic

It looks like the Shure is intended to go into the lightning port. It does however have a headphone out jack so theoretically you could probably go from there to the TRRS input if you had a cable that had 1/8" TRS for the Shure end and 1/8" TRRS on the iPad end. HOWEVER - as I commented elsewhere....I have found that any way of recording into the headphone jack on an iPad is noisy - I get a clicking/popping sound at regular intervals. It is the headphone jack that is the problem, not the iRig, from what I have experienced.

I am currently going from my mixer directly to the iPad using a trs to trrs adapter. Will the Shure device give me clearer audio than I am currently getting?

Any way of recording into the lightning port is cleaner than using the headphone jack. I posted some other comments about this.

Couldn't you skip the Shure MVI and just use a mixer with a built in USB audio interface?
