Metroid Prime Trilogy HD Emulation Guide
Ойындар

this is amazing! the MP4 trailer really got me hyped up and I've been dying to jump back into MP2 after playing MP1 remaster on Switch so this is perfect : )
Dude, this has been one of the best tutorials I've EVER seen on setting up an emulator. I'm relatively new to emulators and really only got into it for Metroid purposes because it's one of my all time favorites franchises. I followed your tutorial step by step and I'm now getting to play metroid prime on my PC and it feels like the first time I played it again on the gamecube when I was nine! Thakyou so much for the help and I'll be looking around your channel to see what else you can teach me.
As someone currently playing Dread and looking forward to playing the Prime series, Thank you so much for uploading this!!
Hands down the best guide. Very well explained and loved the comparisons shown. Thank you!
Great video, Russ. I’m definitely one of those that was aware of Primehack but never took the plunge…lack of motivation in going through the setup and fearing getting too addicted being my main excuses. Your setup breakdown is perfect for anyone to rely on, and I think I’ll finally get around to doing it. Aloha from Hawaii as well.
I just setup the whole think by following your guide. Works perfectly! Thanks man! Subbed!
This was a super easy tutorial to follow, thank you!

@@youdontseeanoldmanhavinatw4904 Sorry if this is a dumb question, but for the hd texts folder, there are several subfolders for different game versions and regions. Is it still okay to just drag and drop the whole thing, like in the video? Also, the trilogy folder is now just one big folder, instead of 3 separate folders for each game
Thank you I have been wanting and trying to figure this out on my own and this has worked flawlessly.
Thanks for the tutorial! Metroid Prime was one of my favorite games as a kid and It's awesome that we now have such a great way to emulate it.
You truly earned my sub with this premium guide! Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for this, Russ. This is the first thing I‘ll do when I get my Steam Deck
Thank you for putting out this guy I've been wanting to play with updated controls I'm just excited.
A thorough guide, and a great way to re-experience the games I've always been more of a 2D metroid fan myself, but these games are good in their own way
I love these HD guides. One of my favorites is the Citra one for Majoras Mask, the 4k mod looks very vibrant and it's my favorite game. I love the idea of these older titles getting the HD love. This looks amazing!
Thank you. Was waiting for this since you asked if we want it. I have it running perfect and I have been enjoying some of my childhood memories again but with two sticks this time 🤣
You thought right, it's definitely new to me! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thank you so much for this, I had no idea about the "portable" thing, so I was having issues with audio and configurations being shared across vanilla Dolphin.
Thanks always for your knowledge. Happy I can play these games again and finally beat them.
Hey man just wanted to pop on here and say thanks for putting all this together. Made getting everything and putting it all in the right places extremely easy. Not sure if you do other tutorials but I think you may have a knack for it. 👍
As always, quality content! Thanks
Thanks for the great guide. I set it up this morning and it looks and runs great (only launched Prime 1 to test boot/performance). Also I used the prefetch custom textures option, and Afterburner was reporting about 24GB of RAM allocated (my rig has 32GB capacity). Definitely worth using if you have a lot of RAM, but only newer machines will be able to do so.
Very good guide, thank you very much for this video!
This is insaneeeeeeee Thanks again, Russ 🙏
Really wish I found this before playing through the first 2 Primes on Dolphin. At least I was playing on 4k on that so it looked amazing. Definitely gonna do this for Prime 3 now. Great vid!
I became aware of this due to Mutahar's recent video on Shader Cache. It's a cool concept, and thankyou for the tutorial!!

thx ive been holding off on playing metroid 2 & 3, now i think is the time to play it & hd quality.
With stuff like this, the Mario 64 ports and upgrades, AM2R, the sonic ports, GTA ports... I really wonder what else out there I'm missing out on. So many good old games are getting new love from community projects. You could do a whole series on community created upgrades and HD texture setup. I know OOT looks amazing with the HD settup and I can't wait for the port team to finish doing it up like Mario 64.

Hi man, I absolutely love this video and I will be working on getting prime on my pc soon. I look forward to seeing more content from you so I subbed too. I just have one question: where do you get a copy or file of prime trilogy on pc? Is the dolphin version the one I am supposed to use? Clearing this up will make your video completely comprehensive :)
extremely helpful, thanks
YESSS THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
Tried this yesterday on my iMac running bootcamp, runs nice with all HD textures and 4x resolution !
YYYYEEEEESSSSS!! Thank you thank you thank you!
Side note on the part where you suggested deleting the zip file once extracted to save time to anyone following that advice; If you do a Shift+Del it'll actually delete it. If you just right-click and delete, it just moves it to your trash bin. So it is still using up your storage. And the HD Texture pack once extracted uses up about 18GBs of storage, not 5GBs. Otherwise, great tutorial!
Thank you for this. It's a simple video, but one that I haven't managed to come across until today. I've looked for years for a way to emulate the Prime Trilogy, even with normal textures and quality. But with this guide and the tools at my disposal, I'll even get a taste of what Nintendo themselves seems reticent to give us; Metroid Prime HD collection. I downloaded the Dolphin emulator to play this trilogy in the past, and it always looked choppy and pixelated, like it just wasn't meant to run on that size screen. And realistically, it wasn't, but it still made for a blemish that made it uncanny and almost sickening to me, to play these games in such a state. I even went so far as to fork out $100 for a copy of the trilogy, only to foolishly leave it behind at my ex's house. This video saves me that investment, at a time when that money is sorely needed. So thank you for putting out the video that the internet was so seemingly devoid of, that had all the exact information that I needed to get what I so desperately wanted.
More of these guides!
These may be my 3 favorite games of all time. It is making the argument for Nintendo to simply do an 'up-res' of the original, remap controls and send it out. But on second thought, redoing the most prominent textures like: Samus, doorways and HUD would make sense. Getting it up to 1080p compared to the original, breathes new life into it as it is, and it cuts down on redevelopment time and effort. - Thanks for the tutorial.
Doing gods work ❤👌
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
this video is like a dream come true
Thanks for putting this together nicely. I never used this emulator so do I need to download the Dolphin emulator first or straight away download the Primehack?
Thank you!
Thanks man. I really loved the metroid prime series. I am setting uip anyting atm. Only thing i struggle is with the visor sensor controlls. they jsut do not want to work somehow. but lets see if i can figure that out too

Oh my god that is so cool 😎 could you please do a tutorial for Metroid prime Trilogy on Steam Deck?
You can hit Windows key + cursor left or right to make a window stick to exactly half of the screen :)
Played the switch remaster of Metroid Prime (It's really good. It looks like the switch shouldn't be able to run it, and has great control options for a nintendo game.) and am now getting Prime Hack to play 2 and 3! Great tutorial.
I set this up a year ago but didn’t finish any of the games. I’ve changed computers so I lost the files and I was not looking forward to figuring all of that out again, this guide is going to make it so much easier. I was 12 when MP3 came out and I played it probably a dozen times but never got to play the others. I would have paid Nintendo for a port of their trilogy to Switch but they’ve missed their chance. I reallly don’t understand their brilliant business strategy of making it difficult for fans to access their classic replayable games that fans would gladly shell out cash for. Oh well!
where can i get the hd textures now as the MEGA links have been taken down. Is anyone else able to release it or send me a link of where to get it?
thanks man
I compilated a HD pack for the first Prime game which looks much better than just the upscale and interface combined.
Thanks for the video! I successfully installed everything on my PC and got it working. Now my question is, can I still export all this to Steam Deck / Emudeck ? With my save file and HD texture pack as well just like how you did with the device in this video? Just unclear on that thanks!
If you right click on the game in the primehack screen/options window, you can click on properties and it'll give you options to screw with there. For me, disabling "DSP HLE" fixed a lot of choppy audio issues. Not perfect now but it's much better and I'm sure it'd be even better if I changed more settings. Hope this helps someone
Thank you very much! Could you make one for OoT ? :)
For anyone getting errors when extracting the HD textures, don't use the default Windows extraction. I had to use 7zip to extract successfully.
With the switch remastered released only for the first game, do you still not care? I got so excited when it shadow dropped, but I held back to wait for a physical copy. I haven’t been able to find one anywhere. But I found your video, so now I have a 4K, 60 fps HD texture and improved controls version of all 3 games. Thanks Russ for picking up the ball when Nintendo drops it
It would mean a great deal if you showed us the performance of the first game on the Steam Deck. 🙏🏻 So curious to see how often it stutters.
awesome
Awesome guide! But question, the HD Texture pack does not unzip to the map structure shown, is it necessary for it to be structured exactly like that in the R3M folder?

If you look at the last page of that forum post, someone uploaded the fixed version with the subfolders. It is broken though, it won't work unless everything is in the correct subfolder.
Hi, Am i the only one having issues after unzipping the Zip file of the HD texture file that says "Trilogy", it just gives me a bunch of images not the files... :c
Since you only need HD textures for one game at a time, I recommend zipping the textures for the other two games to save storage space.
The controls are why I never played this, it's finally time to finish these games. I was hoping Nintendo was going to release this on Switch at some point but this is better in my opinion.
@1:11 just pointing out that this isn't the case anymore. This WILL also play on a Steam Deck, and Primehacks is included with EmuDeck. NOTE: if you use the .RVZ format for the Wii Trilogy version it's 7GB (shaves off 800MB from the .wbfs version)
Yes, I plan on doing this in a few hours. This will give me the perfect excuse to play the Prime games because I hated the controls.
Yeah I'm playing this hack since some time ago now and it's really impressive how good it looks on 4K and play with keyboard & mouse. I doubt Nintendo will make a better version than this on Switch!
Would you cover phaze 01? Looks like the ultimate metroid prime fan version

Do you have tips on getting started? I'm a JavaScript/TypeScript programmer that wants to get into ROM hacking, but the assembly language of older games seems too daunting of a barrier. I think I could manage C++, though.
With the new windows drivers I whould love to see how the steam deck preforms with emulation (if you can even get one in the first place)
Emudeck makes this so easy on the Stream Deck.
Where can I get the first file mentioned in the video? The actual game . I really want to play this !
12:32 "At this point, I kind of don't care if Nintendo ever makes a Switch remaster because this one is great on its own." I found the same thing with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with the fork of 1964 that it uses for a great PC port. In fact, this year has really been about resolving my frustrations with Nintendo when it comes to anything regarding their past catalogue. I'm so tired of how they treat me as a consumer when it comes to preserving their titles, and I don't find their current model worth rewarding. I love buying their genuinely new titles on whatever they're currently selling. I'm happy to support and reward any of those projects, as they still come up with terrific titles that excite and thrill me. And they don't microtransact me to death. Metroid Dread has been one of my happiest purchases lately, along with Bowser's Fury. I might even buy the expansion pass for Mario Kart 8. I even didn't mind picking up Link's Awakening because wow, what a creative update! But the team I don't wish to reward is their retro teams. I hate that it affects the programmers, but the project managers and suits running the company library are dimwits who take hostile attitudes towards its consumers. It's felt great picking up a Wii U and softmodding it to oblivion, making it a fabulous system for all of Nintendo's back catalogue except for 3DS and Switch. I did it because I had finally had it waiting for Nintendo to release the Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD collection on the Switch. Now, they won't get ANY of my money because I purchased it all second-hand. Now that I'm seeing individual projects that are dedicated towards genuinely beating the crap out of whatever Nintendo's retro team can come up with... well, I'll support it as best I can. This Primehack thing is nerdy, but fun. Thanks to this sort of thing, I now don't have to be angry at Nintendo because I can continue to buy their newest stuff, and refuse to support their retro offerings until they're actually made with any kind of love and respect.
nice
is this portable to the steam deck minus the controls? or windows only.

I never saw the option to select portable when I set it up, and recently got a new PC. Haven't tried to move Primehack over to the new PC yet, wondering if there is a way to set it either check if it's set for portable, or switch it to portable on the old PC before moving it?
