Ever heard of Bocchi the Rock?

I might be digging too deep but I feel this about crossing over after death. He dies in his sleep, he goes to the painting of Mother Mary, a note from his "mother" says she misses him and he begins his journey to find her. He wanders around like a lost soul because nobody pays attention or can help him until an elderly woman (Santa Muerte?) takes his hand and tells him where to find his mother. At the end of his journey he kisses the doll goodnight, closes its eyes like you would somebody who has died (letting go of his old life). Then follows the light through a hole and the light embraces him, he's then cradled in the arms of his mother like an infant as she smiles fondly down at him.

Okay so a few words about this song. I think that i know why so many people like this song. It makes you feel like waking up from this one dream that you lived your whole other life in. The song paired with right visuals (maybe something that will remind you of fleeting memories or the passage of time) makes you feel a sense of longing for that other life you never had.

From the band e-mail: "In Rawal's reimagining of the archetypal heroic journey, Sheldon embarks on a mysterious pilgrimage through Mexico City and into the canal maze of Xochimilco on a flat-bottomed trajinera in search of his house mother, an “angel" in his memories. Upon reaching his destination, Sheldon delivers an epic vogueing performance (!) to celebrate his spiritual reunion with the maternal. His massive on-screen presence is only amplified by his bold attire: sequined jacket and kitten heels." Just in case some people were confused about the video.

I'm seeing a lot of hate and confusion for this video in the comments, I however found it rather touching. The video fits the song perfectly, it's about a lost child (whether it be a kitten, man, woman ect...) looking for their Mother, or perhaps just someone that can comfort them. The comments below explains the story behind the dolls and really helps clear things up in the video, probably one of my favorite videos of theirs.

The story, combined with the vogue dance implies it is not a "mother" in the traditional sense, but rather basically a den mother that took in lost gay youths in the 80s. Still goes on to this day to some extent too. There is still extreme hatred for gays in many, many countries and many flee broken homes due to violence. Women like this would take gay men in and teach them to perform and such, giving them a purpose. Obviously, it is a video and up for interpretation, but this seems a logical answer. The dancer is looking for the only place he finds home when the world is so cruel to him.

Having watched the video, I feel like it resounds with me on more levels, having lost a parent in my teens due to illness, I feel like I'm waiting to see them again, and trying my best to make them proud in life. When I first listened to this song, it gave me a sorrow at the failed romantic relationships of my life, this hasn't receded, it just has been added to it.

At 2:10, the lady actually says in Spanish "Oh, the one with the broken heart!" :(

This song was ahead of it's time, can't believe it was released more than 10 years ago

In my opinion (as a mexican) this video is trying to reflect the live of all of us (mexicans) losing ourselves in the middle of the globalization. I think the guy is looking for 'la virgen de guadalupe' a very common image of Mary here in mexico, you can see her at the begining. He is returning to Mexico (i think he is a migrant? that's why he can't speak spanish very fluently??) and he's trying to settle down into his homeland. Also, in 2:11 they said that the woman said "Ah yes, I do know of her" but she refered to his mother as "the one with the broken heart", I don't know what does it means yet but idk.

I'm not going to lie, this is the first time that foreign content containing something about my country has offended me. México + Metric = Maravilloso y único :) Hermosas tomas, concepto visual hermoso y música excelente.

This has been one of my favorite songs off the album since it came out and still is. I was reading through the comments and I'm surprised this video is getting so much hate. I think it's beautifully shot, tells a story (which is a bit unclear because it's written in between the lines since Metric is actually a talented and creative band), and since it is a story of a gay male that makes is controversial to a lot of people. I think it's a great and even emotional story of growth, strength and love. Good job Metric.

Normally the song makes me sad, watching the official video and seeing him find his mom at the end made me smile.

This video is so interesting. It references gay Ball culture in the 1980's, a house mother was like the the leader of a group, because he/she was popular and successful in the balls. Since a lot of the youth at the time were homeless, the house mother would kind of take care of them. And vogueing was a popular competition aspect in the balls, it stems from throwing shade, which is like telling someone off, but in vogueing you are doing it through dancing. A great film about this culture is called Paris is Burning from 1989, and its available on youtube.

Wonderful! I loved the music, I loved Mexico and the protagonist.

I really enjoyed this whole album. One of the best. This song is one of my favs of the album.

I can’t get enough of this video. For those of us who are outcasts, haven’t felt accepted by society- the longing for a mother who loves and accepts us is deep. My mother tries as best she can, but I will never be enough for her. To find a mother in this video who loves and accepts you the way you are is powerful.

Couldn't be more pleased. It literally gave this song a new meaning. I was really shocked by the artistic meaning behind the song. It's my favorite track from Synthetica, so I'm super happy. Love how they integrated Mexico and a little of its culture plus a gay flamboyant guy. If you don't understand it, I'm sorry but you are a fool. This is by far one of their best videos.
