a friend just recommended this album. he saw them in la in the early 00's at a small venue, only about 15 people in attendance, and at the end of the show they completely destroyed their instruments. It turned out they had just been signed for this record deal. kinda cool story from an interesting moment in their careers.

+Kyle Dorr The amount of ignorance about music and music production in this comment section is absolutely mind boggling. *_First off_*, I guarantee you this was recorded on some computer software, compressed HEAVILY especially the drums and voice + the reverb and delay. eq'ed on it, mixed and then mastered. Its also possible there is slight auto tune on the double tracks. (News Flash: Auto Tune is not some T-Pain shit, most artists use it) *_Second_*, there is no psyche reason the top songs sell so well. In fact not even the record labels out today know what the fuck to do or what to find, they have no idea what sells a song. The music industry is a bit messy right now, so up and coming artists aren't sure how to make it because the record labels don't even know what they're looking for. *_Third_*, most big artists you know of and cherish weren't big and didn't get worldwide recognition immediately. Especially the foreign artists. Its much harder to make it big in the US if your Australian or UK, and people like the Beatles and Pink Floyd weren't GIGANTIC until they made deals with US record labels. Some even go unnoticed for years. The Velvet Underground weren't mainstream till nearly the early 80s. 20 years after Velvet Underground and Nico was released. And sold like 20 copies?

@@melomania2637 If you watch the live performance of this song it's pretty spot on. Her vocals aren't as good because she had did like 10 songs before this one. And yeah hip hop led to the destruction of music. It lowered the bar for what we consider art.

+John Smiff As someone who has been personally influenced by both women massively in my life...I'm still with Taylor on this. Emily's lyrics are generally concise and to the point, she's telling a story with the music. There's a lot of very clever shit she does with her lyrics. Jenny's lyrics are awesome too, but there's more of a pretense there.

an ex coworker turned me onto Metric with this song while i was working at a pita shop in college in 2005. I liked it - and therefore i liked her - now she's an ex gf. In 2006 she brought me to see Metric at Webster Hall in Brooklyn, and when they played this the crowd was thrilled - highlight of the show.

Its kind of awesome, its almost like a double entendre; combat baby as in fight me in a passive aggressive manner of fight for my love......but then it actually sounds like comeback baby as in don't leave me. Its kind of that subtle yet continuous strain in some relationships, where you do everything to fight for the love of the other then at the same you take that love and use it as a weapon to push them away as vehemently as possible......?!....Who knows? Maybe, I drank to many beers and this is what I get for listening to this stuff???

Nathan Edwards Idk, i feel like its about a relationship where they fight constantly, but she misses it anyway. 'No one here wants to fight me like you do' thus the combat baby/come back baby play on words, its like it goes hand in hand. Idk. Seems like one of those situations where you're unhappy 'i miss your ranting, do you miss my all time lows?' But once you're out of it you realize there were good parts you miss? Its the paradox of people lol i guess.

  • @b.d6642

Here is my interpretation of the song (if you care for it): I think this song is about being "addicted to bad relationships". sometimes when were in a relationship with someone who isn't right for us we could become too comfortable in that toxic relationship and when we finally get the sense to say "this isn't working" we want to go back, because as terrible as the relationship was it's more familiar then just being alone and trying to get yourself back together, "non of them want to fight me like you do" i feel like that line is supposed to basically tell us what the everyday dating life of someone who just got out of a relationship like that are like, they try to look for someone new but the future is scary, and when the only familiar thing about your past is toxicity than your going to go for familiar toxicity instead of unfamiliar future, even if you know it's bad for you, even if you know that your previous partner's only skills were to know how to "fight" you you'd prefer going back to something familiar. I dunno that's just my interpretation

This spring I tried to move out into the woods to get away from certain things I didn't know how to deal with. I didn't end up moving into the woods, but I spent a lot of time in nature rediscovering my passions and Metric's and Mother Mother's music kindled a flame in me, giving me a lot of warmth and hope that this is the kind of music I want to do, the energy I want to have in my life.
