Thank you for your information. When propagating from an acorn or cutting, I recognize you recommend 'pruning' the tap root at 4", but after 'filling out' a 4" container, where do you go from there? Is it best to then pot it up to a larger container such as 8" then 12" etc etc? What is the typical 'optimal' propagation sequence to take a tree from seed/cutting to the largest reasonable tree for a landscape? I'm 52yo and purchased 85ac in Lexington KY area and wish to add many trees to my farm. I'm trying to maximize the speed and quality of trees I can place on my farm, and it seems like it might be better for me to begin from acorns and seed rather than buy 2" burlap/container trees. Regardless of cost, I'd like to see my trees as close to mature as possible before I pass on.
