Great video. You guys did an amazing job showing what it is like to compete at the Chili Bowl. I was lucky enough to grow up in that building. My father raced in that race for almost 20 years. I got to be at the first 13 events, then on and off for several other years. The amount of talent the has rolled through those doors would blow your mind. Those boys did the unthinkable to bring 2 relatively unproven cars and put both in the main. Great job to all.

absolutely sensational guys. Truly inspiring stuff. I am an aussie who left midgets over 20 years ago. You guys hit the nail on the head. Too bad the yanks played the old "americas cup" card by changing the rules. I hope you figure out a way to make money to validate your great success. Cheers.

I live a mile south of the fairgrounds. If you stand at the Golden Driller and face south, that is my street, Pittsburg. I have been to pretty much every night since it started. This will be hard to believe but in 87 it was run on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The track was bad Saturday and on Sunday, there probably weren't 1500 people there. Vogler had run a USAC show on Saturday night where the final 4 locked in. He qualified and started somewhere farther back and it was a great show. It has gotten better every year. Unfortunately, some off us are now senior citizens and Saturday has actually become more hassle than it is worth, unless you have a seat. Nobody wants to stand and watch from the pits or sit 10 hours on a bleacher seat. The show is incredible and I highly recommend everyone to go at least once. A lot of people wonder how Sammy has won 5 and Kevin 4. The secret ishitting the setup and never changing it. It is so important to do well your qualifying night. It isn't hard to pass but if you run the alphabet, there are too many things that can happen. Just have a great car. Make sure you hit the setup. (Been told that if you get it once, you can use the same setup every year.) Drive harder than you have ever driven in your life. Don't give up no matter what happens and you might just do it.

Tony hasn't won a 500, but he is a former IRL champion. He is also a 3 time Nascar champion and won the USAC Silver crown, Sprint car, and Midget titles all in one year. Is is well and truly one of the great racecar drivers. And by great I mean greats of the world. The man has won or nearly won in every type of car that he has ever sat in.

A little trick I used when racing those !!! We would bore the cylinders 10 thousands over. This enabled us to use aviation fuel 130 obtain As the race progressed the motor started pulling 100 % better and ran cool. You can't run aviation gas without doing the overbore or it locks the motor up. The fuel alone gives you a minimum ofvfree 25 % horsepower. It works with gas or alkyhahol Good oil is a must. No cheap crap or you'll smoke the motor Everyone says they can't run aviation fuel There right ( THRY CANT BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW HOW ) Good luck and I hope you'll try it. You'll be amazed how it works

I'm just now seeing this for the first time lol.good video for sure.i get a kick out if how you New Zealanders and Ausies sure love midget and sprint cars. The chili bowl and the Knoxville nationals and then the kings royal are basically the Daytona and Indy 500 for the midgets and sprints and always brings a hell of a crowd.fir the nationals it even brings Ausies just in the grand stands.thats how true to sprint car fans these people are.its awesome

I might be off on this one but the engine cant go over 3 liters, 4 bangers ,twin cams etc. I dont see any thing wrong with designing a motor that has more cylinders then a four banger,as long has the rules limit cubic inchs for the class they want to run

Back in the '80's, Sesco produced a V8 midget engine based on two motorcycle blocks and heads. This one was based on air-cooled Suzuki fours: thekneeslider.com/sesco-air-and-oil-cooled-suzuki-v8-engines/. It was cooled by the alcohol fuel plus a really big oil cooler.
