Three years ago my wife was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. She completely changed her diet and gradually lost about 100 lbs.She took Metformin 500mg and followed the exact recommended dosage.By testing her blood twice a day and keeping a log book certain foods were eliminated.Last year our family doctor told her if her blood tests stayed the same for 1 year she could stop using Metformin 500mg.Her last test in early August 2018,came through as normal, and Metformin 500mg was stopped. It was then that the side effects for her became glaringly obvious. The thick callouses on her feet just fell off,the skin between her toes stopped peeling and her dry mouth from no saliva returned to normal.

I was on this for 4 years.Did some research & talked with Dr. I trusted. First thing he said is to get as much of processed white flour out of diet. No fruit juice, eat whole fruit instead! I am now off the drug & have low A1C. Just know your own system. Some need the help.

Did not take the Metformin. I just lost 50 pounds, began a sugar free, low sodium, low but good fats and more veggies than I could ever believe diet. Only fish aand poultry. This straightened out diabetes, all numbers are good. Exercise too. Feel great. I hope this stay the way it is. I have maintained for a year.

I had a serious issue with Metformin. 18 months ago I spent 4 days in ICU due to extremely low BP (60/40), caused by dehydration. I don't have a colon (full colectomy 10 years ago) so most of my fluids expel anally. I had an episode where I was getting extremely thirsty, so I drank more water. Without a colon I was not recirculating electrolytes or harmones and the water flushed out what little I had. The emergency staff told me that Metformin exacerbates water loss. My doctor subsequently had me stop taking it. Recently I engaged in a long fast and now do intermittent fasting on a keto diet. My blood sugar went from a high of 412 a month ago and average of 222 over the last 3 months to an average of 139 within the last week. I'm 71yo and intend to stick around.

My mother is type 2 diabetic 68 years old and she was on metformin for 3 years and since the year 2 started experiencing severe constipation along with real bad muscle cramps and pain in the soles of feet to the degree she would wake up in the night with this pain. I did some research only to discover thousands of other people also reported these same issues. I decided to gradually wean her off metformin while paying carefull attention to her diet and reducing carbs considerably. after about a week of abandoning metformin all her issues were resolved and because of the lw carb diet her blood sugar readigs were also within normal range. She is like a new person. Please be carefull with this medication blood sugar can be controlled through diet alone and my personal opinion is this drug is a huge money spinning scam. T2 diabetes can be fully controlled through diet alone.

I too am coming to the realization that Metformin is a racket. I have felt so bad from all the side effects and have made the decision to wean myself off by replacing it with Berberine, a natural supplement with no side effects. Just one day of no Metformin made me feel like myself again. I slept like a baby all night with Berberine and no night urination. I woke up so refreshed and energized. My mind was clear, no brain fog. I have had it with Metformin. And I don't care what the doctor says. They don't promote natural remedies. He had never even heard of Berberine.

Walking outside (rain or shine)at least 5 days in a week for 45 minutes will take care of your metformin mechanism. Added sugar is a sin for people who has high blood sugars. Never again drink any soft drinks. Drink only water. Be happy! Don’t complain about anything! If you complain take action. Never be worried! Be concern! Be kind, generous and humble! Give more and take less. Never go to bed with full stomach! If you can follow the above on a daily basis you will save a lots of money and will not require any medication for your health! Your health is your temple and keep it clean all the time!!

How about not taking metformin and changing diet. My aging mother-in-law became housebound after a fall. My husband was visiting her daily bringing her restaurant take-out food for 2 years before she entered a nursing home. She was in her 90's and other than mobility issues, her health was good. After being on a diet of takeout food for 2 years she was diagnosed with diabetes. Immediately there was a discussion about prescribing medication. However, after being hospitalized from another fall in the house and spending some time in a recovery centre afterwards, her diabetes went away. Holy crap, we all exclaimed, Dad gave Grandma diabetes by feeding her takeout food! The highly seasoned carb loaded meals were so addictive that she rejected the home cooked meals I provided. She is now 104 years old, confined to a wheelchair and has dementia, but no diabetes.

Diarrhea is a big problem for me. After about six months I had big diarrhea events 2 to 3 times PER DAY. Been off it for well over a year, but I'm finding that the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE injectables have the same side effect, but only about one day a week shortly after taking the one per week injections - several different brands. I'm currently on a Keto diet and it is not only bringing my weight down, but with much lower sugar and carb intake, my blood sugar level is coming down. I am looking forward to becoming a former Type 2 Diebetic. My doc knows about the keto diet but he never mentioned it until I did. He agrees that if I can continue I'll be able to "fire" him. He says several patients have been able to do this. WHY DON"T THEY TELL US ABOUT IT TO BEGIN WITH?

I’m so glad to come across this video. I was starting to take metformin and carefully followed my doctors instructions on the dosage. However, after three days, I started having severe chest pains. I do have a heart condition. For a day and a half I continued to have chest pain, taking aspirin and nitro tablets to reduce the pain. But finally I said “Enough of this“ and went to the ER for the chest pain. I was hospitalized for two days for observation. During that time we stopped the Metformin and my chest pain went away. They determined that I was having side effects to the Metformin, and we switched to another diabetes medication. I’m handling that very well now and everything is back to normal. I mention all this because chest pain was not listed as one of the side effects in the video and I felt it was important to mention.

EXACTLY. This is what the healthcare system is predicated on. You go in for one condition, a drug is prescribed which causes side effects, and then the doctor diagnoses you with another condition, because your doctor is trained to diagnose and prescribe. Then another medication is prescribed because your doctor is trained to diagnose and prescribe. Before you know it, years go by, and rather than your initial condition getting better, you have 5 different conditions, 5 different medications, and your overall health is worse lol. Thank god for our healthcare system right? I'm glad you extricated yourself before they kept you going down that path

My original diagnosis came in at 450 and I have been at acceptable sugar levels since taking it. In fact my blood sugar level went from 450 to 105 in 3 days when I started. Side effects, non that I can detect.

I mean me not you. because I mean to them its just a little pain but they know its a lot of pain they just dont have to deal with it themselves.

I've lowered my intake of carbs drastically and that includes grains. Grains shoots my bloodsugar through the roof. I don't have any issues with diarrhea. I have the opposite problem because I have a hard time getting fiber into my system without grains. I eat meat, cheese, most veggies and an occasional fruit usually watermelon or grapes. Watch out for some sugar alcohols especially maltilol which really acts like sugar for me. A lot of non-sugar bars have maltilol. I found out about that the hard way. Shot my A1C way up. You also need to take CoQ10 and many minerals if you take this drug.

I was on this for 15 years and early on started having issues with diarrhea, the issues became worse the longer I took it, by year 12 I was asking my doctors what was wrong with me, I was put thru testing and it was suggested I had gallbladder issues or colon issues. I was to the point of 'dump syndrome', 20 minutes after eating anything I would be in the bathroom with explosive diarrhea. Finally I found on my own that all this time it was a side effect of metformin!! I stopped taking it immediately! within 2 months I was absolutely back to being a 'normal' human being again! How dare my doctors put me thru testing when they knew exactly what was wrong the whole time! I have lost so much respect for the medical profession over this.

Doctors treat symptoms, they do not seek cures. I'm turning more and more to naturapathic medicine. Big Pharma provides most of the "continuing education" for doctors. Doctors are very uneducated on diet. Once they see the money rolling in they quickly jump on the Big Pharma bandwagon. One of the medical professions I hate the most are the Oncologists. They get paid huge bucks for pumping poison into our bodies. I lost my wife to cancer 8 years ago and after about six months of giving chem (BIG $$$) he said she should take 2 months off. When we got back he looked at the new Cat Scan and said "uh-oh" - now that isn't something you want to hear sitting in an exam room. He defended himself by saying that was the protocol he was following.

I'd like to lose weight on my own and with very little help from the Metformin if possible. Aside from that, the following are what I have taken to replace the Metformin: 1.) Alpha Lipoic Acid (600 mg) 2.) Vitamin B12 (1000 mcg) 3.) Cinnamon (2,000 mg) 4.) Maca Root Extract (1,000 mg) 5.) High Vegetable and Meat diet (Avoid the consumption of to much animal fat) 6.) Psyllium Husk (1 Teaspoon a day) 7.) And most importantly, intermittent Fasting for 12 to 14 hours (Sleep time included), once your body becomes accustomed you can do a 24 hour fast which helps your body purge toxins and bacteria from your gut. 8.) Walnuts to snack on when cravings hit. 9.) Blueberries to snack on when cravings hit. My Glucose levels have gone from mid 300's to 111-127 with this regiment.

I had been taking 2000mgs daily of metformin with no negative side effects for about 30 years. I then started being constipated, which may be from the metformin, or just from getting old. I take a stool softener to fix that. I just turned 80 and am hoping I am seeing a possible side effect of metformin........longevity. I have frequent kidney test and blood chemistry done. The last comprehensive blood test a few weeks ago showed every test result in the "normal" range. Metformin is apparently great for me and I do not intend to stop. I might already (at 80) be seeing the longevity side effect..........I can live with that one....
