Bent double stops with wah, a fast bit, then back to the double stops covers most of the solos

Just got out of the theater. This was the first song I actually really liked on the album (after Lux and 72 Seasons). There’s kick-ass riffs, harmonies and the solos are well crafted. It’s rather fast and actually sounds like something Mercury would write 😅

Probably a 7/10. About half the songs are worth it. Personal favourites in (album) order: 72 Seasons Shadows follow Lux Aeterna Too Far Gone? Room of Mirrors Inamorata Not really better than the last 2 albums, but to be fair, Death Magnetic is one of my favourites

​@@marcdamian5393 those are my top 6 also, but in different order... Other songs are here and there... Have some good memorable hooks like that Sabbath vibe in You Must Burn! Or that weird riff in Crown of Barbed Wire.... Chasing light was also good song... Overall feels similar to Hardwired, not great, but has some good material, but album has a different vibe than Hardwired

I can’t believe that the album is coming out TOMORROW

Too Far Gone may be my surprise favorite tbh, sounds like Load meets Death Magnetic and I’m here for it. I always wished James had leaned into the Load era singing during DM, but I think he must have had some kind of vocal issue at the time that wouldn’t allow those higher more soaring vocals constantly like during the Load-S&M1 era.

This reminds me of Atlas, Rise! When I first heard it

Just listen once, some weird feeling on 2 or 3 songs, but i've heard couple of very solid and headbanging riff that i've didnt heard for a while from metallica.

I did like some of the tracks tho, didnt fully hate everything I heard. did exceed and fall short of my expectations in many different places. Could have been way worse for sure

It does give chills... But they should've shortened the first part of the song a bit.... Halfway through is where song begins to be good and emotional...

At first, I thought this riff was just meh and the song would suck. Ended up being one of my favourites on the album and an absolute banger. The "all away" section with the harmonies and James's beautiful vocal melodies is one of my favourite Metallica parts ever.

I really don't expect this album to be amazing or anything that special, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it quite a bit, since I liked most of Hardwired. Metallica don't seem like they've got anything to prove at this point in their career, that's why they just write things for jams and fun, not to challenge or reinvent the wheel. If Darkness Had A Son and Screaming Suicide were disappointing, but the other two were great. This riff sounds nice, but I wonder how the execution will be in the context of the entire song.

What if call of ktulu was on master of puppets or ajfa?

One of the best songs, esp the voice in the chorus

Weird album. It grooves fo sho. I love production on vocals, it sounds like 80s James , buried in the mix. there are some nice surprises and NO, there are zero need for trimming songs.

Have just heard the singles. I really hope the songwriting and the arrangements are better in some of the other songs. With Kirks recent statements, I don't think there are any decent solos on here. Unless James plays a solo. They have some good riffs, that they use in very boring predictable ways, they don't evolve them in creative or interesting ways. They keep spending lots of time on very repetitive and boring parts. The guitars sound thin and the snare is too loud. James' vocals sound fantastic, but some of the melodies are very weak. I really don't expect the other songs to be much better. But looking forward to Inamorata because it sounds pretty different.

@@StateOfMercury Sad to hear that. They really need to work with a producer that really challenges them. No yes people. Write a song with no open strings, stop chugging on the open e and the first fret and pull offs on the third fret etc, there's like 50 Metallica songs with the same stuff, no pentatonic solo on these songs, use some different modes and actual chord changes in the riffs, no 0 3 5 6 riffs allowed unless it's the best riff ever, have someone other than Lars arrange, keep Lars far away when Kirk does solos, James should do at least five solos, have the mixing engineer have veto rights on every aspect of the mix.

Just finished with listening. I thought it would be Hardwired Pt2 but it is not. Its pretty weird album. First impression is, the first 2 songs are great, SS is good, Sleepwalk my life away sounds like better version of Manunkind which doesnt mean shit since Manunkind is their worst song. However second part of the song is cool, nice Black Sabbathy jam and solid solo. You must burn is the worst song on this album. boring and goes nowhere. Lux breaks mid tempo mediocrity. cool thrash speed song. Crown of Barbed wire is ReLoadish song with more metallic production. Nothing special except one cool riff and groove towards the end . Is it me or they ended the song with some black metal riff. Chasing Light is again ReLoaidsh but more uptempo than previous song and it is catchy AF, great chorus by James.solo is good, straight from KEA daYS. AWESOME ENDING, should lasted few more seconds. Darkness is awesome, it sounded like it could be trimmed a little bit when I first heard it as a single, but on the album it sounds OK. good song, one of the standouts. Too far gone starts promising with No Remorse riff but goes little too much into pop punk waters. Solo is again KEA throwback and ending have nice stomping. Room of Mirrors is fast . overall, good song, with some cool melody and double bass by Lars. had potential to be much better. Inamorata is cool, got some goosebumps while listening to it. overall, way better than I expected, It is better album than Hardwired. Production is great, and I love how they finally buried James vocals into mix like in old days with Flemming behind the mix board.

Hardwired had bangers, but the second CD is just nothing but Spit Out The Bone.. 72 seasons doesn't have any real banger song, but feels more consistent and has more clear vibe to it. I would say it is Hardwired level... Better than Load/Reload, St.Anger but worse than Death Magnetic and other classics...

That song gets hate for no reason... It sounds a bit generic but I loved that main riff and verse.... It's just that I expected more darker feel to it given the title and the theme of the song....

Some video suggestions: What if If Darkness Had A Son was on Kill 'Em All? What if If Darkness Had A Son was on Ride the Lightning? What if If Darkness Had A Son was on Master of Puppets? A very small part of me hopes that this album is gonna have 2 or 3 absolute gems that for some reason they thought were weaker than the singles they chose to release. I think this is the first time in my 23 years I haven't been excited for a new album from Metallica Update I don't like this album at all. Best songs are passable at best
