Some people claim Metallica were sellouts for doing these type of songs. "It's not like old Metallica." I think Bassist Jason Newstead said it best, "Yeah, we sold out. Every stadium and every venue."

Tommy Lee once said you can't be that Hard rock/Metal guy all the time or you'd be fake. As an artist there has to be a softer side. For the record I loved The Black Album!.

Anyone who thinks artists can't expand their repertoire or style isn't worth paying any attention to. Musicians are artists, and they have lots of ways to express themselves. No one complains when a painter uses different colors or brushes.

@@keepitwitmine The entire Black album was extremely controversial, creating a rift among fans and opening up cries that they were "selling out." And "Nothing Else Matters" exemplified it better than anything else on the album, as it's one of the softest songs they've ever done. To be honest, I personally don't care for much they did AFTER the Black album, but I love the Black album itself.

My condolences on the loss of your brother at such a young age. My oldest daughter died a month before her 31st b-day (July 2018). Like your brother, Lauren was a big Metallica fan, as is her little sister. She also lived her life her way & though many times it didn't work out the way she planned & things went haywire, she always said she never regretted any of it, even the bad times. Sadly her story didn't get a happy ending. This song, Fade to Black, & Enter Sandman were Lauren's top 3 favorites from Metallica. Much love to you & your family during this difficult time. Take care & stay safe!

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield wrote the song (credited to Hetfield/Ulrich) in 1990 while he was on the phone with his then girlfriend. Since he held the phone with one hand, he plucked the four open strings of a standard E-minor chord with the other, which eventually made up the first two bars of the song. The lyrics, which talk about being "so close, no matter how far", were also dedicated to his girlfriend, indicating the bond they shared even when Hetfield was on tour. Initially, the song was not meant to be released, as Hetfield had written it for himself, but after drummer Lars Ulrich heard it, it was considered for the album. Sc: Wikipedia

1997 baby here ✋. For older music, I basically started with 80s because of my mother. She's the reason I hate Cindy Lauper, but she also played Wind of Change and Nothing Else Matters alot. Also. Stairway to Heaven. Eventually, I dug into alot of music on my own, owned 60s-70s cars and go to alot of car shows. I'm jam packed with music from the best decades. I personally don't listen to anything much after the late 2000s. Maybe Imagine Dragons or whatever (the Thunder song sucks) For 2000s, it's mostly Linkin Park and techno or such. 90s Has rock and some techno. 80s, all rock/metal 70s, rock and disco stuff 50s-60s. Of course your greatest hits. Rolling Stones, Animals, Turtles, Elvis, Beatles, etc. I also know rockabilly stuff and trucker songs and junk like that.

James Hatfield is an Icon in the rock community, not nearly as much as Freddy Mercury from Queen but he was and still is somewhat an inspiration for most artist. You can't go wrong with James Hatfield. That's why him and the rest of Metallica are still in business, even after the death of Cliff Burton.

It ain't a build-up, bro. This is Metallica's moment to sit down, slow down, and have a heart-to-heart with the fans, with each other, with the whole head-bangin' world. I don't use the word 'beautiful' often enough, but this was their moment to stop and make something beautiful and powerful, instead of just powerful like they normally do.

I remember when this cd came out one the best cds ever I blasted in my car everyday on way and at school all the time. metallica is one my top 5 all time greatest bands ever. and this song is one my favorite songs ever I could listen to this everyday . It is a pure masterpiece I remember when this came out I have all the metallic cds I seen them live in concert there still playing you should go see them fn awesome they have flames and everything its amazing the show they put on and so many great classic songs icon legends and this song is pure perfection. I know you are going love this song so much . I also love how they slow it down even though there still considered metal rock this song is so good. I can't wait to watch your reaction to the perfect sound of it also. I remember when they came out with this the band argued with the producer he said he wanted them to at least slow down one song to attract more listeners and the band didn't want to do it. But they convinced them to do it and they came out with this perfect masterpiece. And was saying its one there best songs and everybody loves it the guitar riffs amazing the drums killing it the singing and the lyrics amazing . Some people claim Metallica were sellouts for doing these type of songs. "It's not like old Metallica." I think Bassist Jason Newstead said it best, "Yeah, we sold out. Every stadium and every venue." hell yes
