What amazes me the most is everytime I see a non-metal fan react to metal, they are having such a good time! Laughing , humming, air drumming, and just enjoying the moment... Indeed the metal genre has a huge impact on anyone and everyone!

In the beginning the junkie is fiending, the middle soothing part is when he gets his fix and everything is ok, and the end is the panic of coming down and needing to get high again. Hence when he says "FIX ME"

@@myproject13ttt ok thanks, though for a picture based form of communication it is very hard to get a meaning from it. I look at a fist coming at me and it seems like a very negative thing and as these things are given many random meanings by different people I have no way of knowing what people are trying to say. Also apparently none of the emojis meanings match the picture anymore so it's a bit regressive and elitist at the same time which is just weird. Guess that's all just an idle rant though. Thanks for the clarification regardless of my musings. Now if I could just figure out why every other post some places has a stylized red 100 after it...

Corey Brooks to be fair, I’m primarily basing this statement on documentaries I saw years ago that said they weren’t being considered a great band until they gained popularity from the “Black album” (5th album). In my opinion, they have some really great tracks on Kill Em all, Ride the Lightning is possibly my favorite album, followed very closely by Master of Puppets AND And Justice for All. Overall they have an AMAZING sound, and the passion to keep making good music far beyond other bands in their genre. This is very similar to Eminem’s path in the rap/hip hop genre.

Haven't even heard it as they lost me when they tried to go alternative and become a KROQ band. My point is calling a thrash band that had a relatively short window of relevance the Gods of Metal music while ignoring every other type of metal or person involved in the greater music genre does not hold up at all and is your very personal opinion. Even just looking at thrash metal I can list endless people of importance who drove it further than Metallica and predate them. Metallica just has name recognition as they were the mainstream band pushed by the major Label Electra while all the others were still on independents. I loved alot of their first 3 albums when they came out and also like the odd song after but, they were far from a driving force in metal and had almost zero effect on most of it past their first 3 albums. Your metal Pantheon is severely lacking and based on a band that lost themselves early on unlike other bands who stayed the course and found fame on their own terms. Even that dickhead Billy Milano and SOD outshine Metalica by far for shaping thrash metal and without Slayer leading the way Metalica would still be a garage band as Slayer outshone them despite having zero distribution and being on metal blade records. Slayer never even got into the record shops untill they got released on a rap label yet had way more cred and influence. Aside from thrash specific bands there is no way in hell that Metalica ranks over Sabbath in any Universe as Gods of Metal at best they get minor deity or demi god status. Fun Fact punk built rap and rap built thrash as early rappers were released and promoted by DIY punk studios like Cherry Red and thrash bands other than metalica were often released by newly formed rap labels like Defjam or punk/rap made hybrid labels. Metallica's first label was megaforce which was actually created to promote Metallica by a Jersey record store owner at great expense. This store owner heard a cheap demo and decided to help the music grow by buying a Uhaul, instruments and equipment, and getting them large gigs with top selling bands. For this he got disrespected from the start and saw Metallica jump to Elektra. Luckily a number of other thrash bands flocked to Megaforce and that was the true birth of the thrash scene. Don't forget Metallica was also the Napster crybabies that helped the record industry screw over the artists for years by propping up fake industry lose statements when in fact the industry was making record breaking profits already despite the fact that they had repeatedly broken contracts at almost all their labels. Thanks to Metallica they were able to play the victim, hide the fact the online sales were through the roof, raise customer prices, raise ticket prices, force new contracts on artists, and make artists give up profit in the name of label solidarity. Metallica was more or less shamed into admitting most of this by their own fans who called them traitors and hypocrites pointing to their history with labels and also pointing out that they had in fact bootlegged their own album's to get around their own label. While they apologized they really didn't get it and just started suing record labels instead of fans. Well this has been long and rambling but I didn't make the crazy Gods of Metal remark nor did I ask for clarification on why they were not.

Wow great reaction. As a long time metal head and ex addict I can tell you this was joy to watch. So since this song holds a special spot in my heart let me take you on a little trip. From the intro to the beginning of the instrumental is all about the addiction, the frantic controlling need to find your master (drug). As soon as the instrumental kicks is right when that 1st rush hits. Right after you've punctured that vain and run that stopper down. The whole instrumental is the high. When the drums kick is the come down and the panic and need in your head to find your master again. When you smiled and started grooving on the instrumental it was like the same release to an addict. Keep up the reviews. Just found you. Will continue to watch. Peace

kitoyobeni1 not true. He uses the wah because it’s his signature sound, not necessarily because he needs it. A lot of people confuse that. He has been using the wah his whole career, that’s just his sound. People noticed that and pinned it as something negative. He can still play these songs live just fine, In fact all the recent live versions of this song he doesn’t use the wah. He only uses the wah on songs that already have it or songs that he’s been using the wah forever on because he thinks it sounds better. Look the the shortest straw live. That’s his hardest solo and he still barely uses wah on that song.

Quick corrections at the beginning: 1. Not only is Metallica still active today, but they are probably among the 5 biggest rock bands in the world. Rock& Roll hall of fame, sold 125 million records, and are one of the few bands in the world that can draw stadium sized crowds. They are also one of the most influential bands in music history. 2. The band member player that died in a bus accident is Cliff Burton, considered one of the greatest bass players of all time. 3. Metallica has never had 9 members at a time. It's always been 4 at a time. 3 of the same band members, James (vocals & rhythm guitar), Lars (druns) and Kirk (lead guitar) have been in the band since 1983. Bass player has changed twice since Cliff died. 4. This was never a wreslters intro. Metallica is very protective of their music, they own all their music publishing rights, so they never allow it to be shown in commercials, rarely in movies, etc. Because of this, their music has never "cheapened", and is revered today by many as one of the highest expressions of art in the metal genre.

If no one answered you, they ares till together and over 35 years they still fill entire stadiums. I don't think any group can match their success. Despite changing a couple members they never broke up over those years either. It's really amazing. You nailed the instrumental section being so important to the song. In thrash metal, the instruments were as important or more than the front man. People took pride in the ability to play. The public was scared of the "scene" but the genre really appreciated their art. Some of the greatest instrumentalists in music came from this scene. Edit: Had to come back and tell you I appreciate how much the message resonated with you. Some of us got lucky and played with the devil and escaped. Too many friends didn't. Watching you think about people you know hit me in the feels. Appreciate you.

Hello and welcome to MetallicA. Master of Puppets was written from the voice of the drugs themselves. Dave Mustaine (formed Megadeth when he was fired as lead guitarist) was booted because - although all four of them drank heavily - Dave would get violently aggressive and it was making practices and performances impossible. They booted him and Kirk Hammett was brought in. Lars Ulrich (drums) and James Hetfield (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) formed MetallicA and found Cliff Burton (died in a tour bus crash in Sweden 1986). Jason Newsted came in (with the heartfelt blessings of Cliff’s grieving parents) to join MetallicA on the “...and Justice For All” tour. Jason parted ways with Metallica after the 1999 S&M show (MetallicA plus Symphony).... then former Ozzy bassist Rob Trujillio filled the bass spot and they’re STILL ROAD MONSTERS. Look for Sanitarium, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, and One ... all of them live in Seattle 1989 (Jason Newsted’s first tour with MetallicA). It’s widely considered the best live concert ever caught on film. Look for a guitar repair shop. My first acoustic was a Lyons six string. I paid $79.00. Wait to drop Benjamins on a guitar until you’ve learned acoustic.

So, Cliff Burton was their original bassist, and he died in a vehicular accident (he was sitting in front on their tour bus, and the driver lost control of the bus) in Sweden while they were on tour. The replacement bassist, Jason Newsted, left the band in the early 2000s. There are a lot of reasons Jason left, ranging from hazing that never really went away, despite having been in the band for 15 years. The story varies, but essentially, the band never really came to terms with Cliff's passing and they took some of that out on Jason. Despite that, they have reconciled and Jason has played with them in some special appearances after the left. Dave Mustaine, the lead singer and founder of Megadeth was Metallica's original guitarist, and he was kicked out for having some extreme anger and alcohol problems at the time. If you watch the documentary, Some Kind of Monster, they talk about Mustaine's departure in a pretty open and real face-to-face session between Mustaine and Lars Ulrich (Metallica's drummer).

Hetfield and Ulrich are still the remaining two original members from 1981 when they first formed. Hammet who isn't original is still one of the older members. Dave Mustaine from Megadeth was with them in the beginning and so was Ron McGovney. A short while later they meet and pick up Cliff Burton as their new bassist (Bassist) as they got rid of McGovney. They produced the demo No Life Til Leather, and have various performances! In 1983 they kicked Mustaine from the band and picked up Kirk Hammet. This became the powerful 4 as they released Kill 'Em (83), Ride The Lightning (84) and Master Of Puppets (86). They started to work on their next album but Cliff Burton was killed when their tour bus driver lost control and the bus rolled over and landed on top of him. They later picked up Jason Newsted as their new bassist. With Newsted they had released: ...And Justice for All (88) Metallica(91) a.k.a (The Black Album) Load (96) Reload(97) They also had a few other compilations such as S&M, Garge Inc. released in this era. In 2001 Newsted left the band or was kicked... and they were idle for a few years. Then in late 02, they picked up Robert Trujillo as the current bassist. With Trujillo, they had produced... St. Anger(03) one of their worst albums from what they were previously known for doing... Death Magnetic (08) going back to their roots very good album and their latest Hardwired... to Self-Destruction(16) which is supposed to be a double album and I only heard the first 7 or 8 songs but sounds good, and similar to that of their 80s music! Here's a timeline of their members: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/timeline/a13896ef0b8a7408e8d5ce745ebd6eb6.png

Althought, he's also playing the guitar solos on: "Orion" (Instrumental song of MASTER OF PUPPETS); "To Live Is To Die" (interlude's solo, again); "Nothing Else Matters" (funny fact: he's playing the lead and rhythm guitars on this one, so There's actually no Kirk Hammett on any guitar, but the music video shows all band rehearsing for them tour); "My Friend of Misery" (harmonic solo, on the interlude); "The Outlaw Torn" (last Two or three minutes of the track); "Carpe Diem, Baby"; "The Day That Never Comes" (harmonic solo, again); "Suicide & Redemption" (funny fact: James is playing here first two solos, and the last one belongs to Kirk Hammett!!!!!)!!!

Metallica has only had 4 members at any given time. They've had 4 bass guitar players. The first one was fired because he simply didn't have the chops, I forget his name. The 2nd bass player was Cliff Burton, a virtuoso and this was his final album, he was killed in a bus accident in the 1980's, the 3rd bass player was Jason Newsted and his departure was mutual. The next and current bass player is Rob Trujilo. They've had 2 lead guitar players. The first was Dave Mustaine, fonder of Megadeath, he was fired and then Kirk Hammett was hired and is still with them. As you can tell I've been a Metallica fan since they put out their first album almost 40 years ago. Now I feel old. And HHH's entrance music is by Motor Head. To be clear, I like all music, not just a metal head. I"ve been playing guitar since 1974, started with country and 1950's rock, then country rock, then rock, then classical, blues, jazz, and metal. There's always growth and new things to learn. It's never boring.

The band was started by Ron McGovney and James Hetfield. Later Lars Ulrich came and Dave Mustaine joined as well. Dave had problems with anger and alcoholism. Dave was kicked out and brought back due to the need for the band. Lars and James later discovered Cliff Burton who took McGovney's spot (who was relieved to surrender the spot). Later the band found Kirk Hammett and kicked out Dave just before the recording of Kill 'Em All without warning and later formed Megadeth. After Master of Puppets Cliff Burton tragically died in a bus accident. Auditions were held and Metallica decided to go with James Newsted and Lars was very impressed by Newsted. Newsted was there from ...And Justice for All and left before St. Anger and the band went temporarily with Bob Rock at bass. Just after the release of St. Anger. Metallica hired Robert Trujillo who had previously played for Ozzy. Since then Metallica has been the group of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo.

yes i felt what you were saying about the pacing of the song mirroring life itself..without the meaning, this song is like a symphony of life's clockwork.. young and chilling, and then grown up and stressed with daily grind and struggle. then i heard the lyrics and knew what it meant, and the mellow interlude suddenly became a tune of a drug addict mixed between getting low adrenaline euphoric from the drug but also revealing his desperate side crying for help with intermittent clarity and back to a recurring euphoria. and then when the pace picked up, it just shows the other side of the drug and drug addict which is a mixture between high adrenaline euphoria and also the addict's anger and frustration and fight against his weakness, his addiction, holding on to what makes one human. But when the master laughs, we know he lost.

Metallica formed in '81, Dave Mustaine was booted in '83 before the first album was recorded (Kill 'em All) for alcohol (not so much abusing, but being abusive on alcohol). Cliff Burton was the bassist (technically second, Ron Mcgovney left before album 1 as well) and is on this album. He passed in '86, bus accident, with the entire band present. I'll take "things that'll F you up for $1000, Alex... Jason Newstead came on as bassist for the And Justice For All album and lasted until the turn of the century and left. Rob Trujillo from Suicidal Tendencies hopped aboard and had been playing Bass for them since. Asides from that, Metallica's been the same for decades.... James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett. This song is a little peek into their unique writing, coming with an anti-drug message that's not "Don't, bad things will happen" but is instead "Hi, I'm drugs, I'm gonna run you up down and sideways until I own you". Meanwhile, the music's telling it's own emotional story... You're also getting this level of talent and complexity from a bunch of 23 year olds who've known each other for at most 5 years. Perfect storm in an emerging genre, enough to get the album into the library of congress as a cultural touchstone.

Yes, heroin/opioids have gotten ahold of some very sharp, talented people and it is ending their lives prematurely or leaving them with reduced brain capacities every day. I have a friend who is a comedic genius and we’ve been friends for 24 years, but I feel like I don’t know him anymore over the last 6 years or so. He became someone I barely recognize. I hope he turns things around because God knows he doesn’t listen to me, his family or any other loved ones. It’s beyond sad. It’s similar to the Crack Epidemic that plagued the black communities throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. I know people who told me of amazingly talented young people who became a slave to crack and few lives to recover, but none ever got back to 100% capacity. All these drugs are/were purposely fed to the black/white communities systematically to create chaos and death. I never tried Cocaine, but from what I understand, it’s very expensive and Crack is essentially uncut (pure) rock Cocaine. Drugs are NEVER a proper crutch for anyone.

This was written by geniuses in their early twenties. I'll never forget when I stumbled on this album when it was released. I was 14 and not even into metal, but I went in an independent record shop with my dad and my birthday money, and it was on full display. I loved the cover and came out of the shop with this album and The Number of the Beast - both based on cover art alone. I was hooked on metal from that day on lol

So a few things about this video (don't worry. None bad). I was hesitant on commenting and sending you a direct message for fear of it being buried in the other comments, but let's do this anyway. You're right, his name was Clifford (Cliff) Burton and he died on tour with Metallica when their tour bus landed on him during an unfortunate run in with black ice. This song is about drugs, but also about manipulation. Master of Puppets (the entire album) deals with manipulation in different scenarios. Sanitarium is about manipulation of mental health, Disposable Heroes is about manipulation from the military, etc. During the instrumental break down of this song, when it slows down, you commented that you felt something different; as in how life starts versus how it is later on. One thing about metal music is that there are a lot of parts like that in different songs. They're all usually opened to interpretation and you can't go wrong. For me, that slow part, there's a minuscule section of 7 notes that always sound like they're saying "...and something's taken from me". I recommend you listen to Metallica's Orion (on the same album) on your own and let the music take you wherever you want to go. It's a full on instrumental. But I mean, hear it, lying down, with your eyes close and really just let it take you. On another note, I wouldn't suggest starting with an acoustic if you're serious about learning guitar. Only reason I say that is because most acoustic guitars, especially low end ones, have the strings sitting higher on the fretboard than they should be. What this will mean to you is you have to put more force on the string to get a decent sounding note out of it. Try going to a shop and handling an electric guitar versus an acoustic. I wouldn't get a cheap one either because they usually don't hold a good tuning. I'd say about $150-$200 will be a decent buy. Fender is a great starting guitar, as well. If you have any questions let me know man. And above all, have fun on this journey through metal music. May I also recommend Death - 1,000 Eyes or Misanthrope. Misanthrope has a dope ass break down that I feel you'll enjoy.
