Seriously? We live in 2022 where the music industry is almost ruined. The music industry likes to push stupid pop stars. Why feel proud for charting? Who cares about charts? Master of puppets was, is, and always be an incredible song. No matter if it was low or high at the charts. Charts are for the people in desks who care about sales, not musicians.

For those of you that may be too young to know this, Master of Puppets did not get radio play in the 80's. No mainstream rock stations would touch it. It was too heavy. It became legendary among the fans and it spread from there. Lots of cassette tape copies went from teen hands to teen hands. Maybe 20 years later rock stations added it to their play list to play on occasion but till this day, rock radio is still scared of this song.

The change in the POV in the bridge from the drug to the addict is lyrical perfection. The guitar solo and the chord progression after "Fix me!" represents how the addict, despite the "master" not fulfilling his promise, still sinks once more into using, which is addiction simplified. James Hetfield is a lyrical master.

It’s interesting how it doesn’t sound any less heavy than 10 or 20 years ago. Even if you listen to older Black Sabbath, you kinda get the feeling that “yeah that’s cool but that’s obviously oldies’ stuff.*” Here, the heaviness is timeless. * No disrespect to BS, I love them.

I was 12 when this album came out, but I got my first copy when I was 15. It wasn't payed on the radio. Back then, heavy metal was considered "of the Devil" and pretty much banned from listeners under 18, at least in my area. I had to put it on an unlabeled tape to play it in my Walkman at school so it wouldn't be confiscated. The fact that it was "forbidden fruit" made it even more badass.

I feel like nobody’s talking about the message of this song. The song is most likely the perspective of a drug controlling someone who is addicted. Like talking about how more is what they need, how they twist their minds, how they are leading the addicted person to death, how they smash their dreams and make them stop playing out of passion, hell “take your breakfast on a mirror” could be a clear reference to drugs you snort. We see how the addicted person asks where there dreams went, how the drug lied to them, and how they get laughed at or humiliated which drug addicted people usually do. Only for the drug to once again take over and sing about how their killing them and how they rule their whole life

I grew up listening 2 this music & I’m so very thankful. This generation will never know or truly understand what they’ve missed out on with just this masterpiece alone. 🤘🎸🤘🎸

Such an epic and amazing track. The explosive opening, the slightly off kilter riff showing instability, the big crash and a moment of clarity in the middle, then the struggle to make it right and keep going, but the final verse shows it's an ongoing battle. Brilliant songwriting.

Many people ignore the important message that this song tries to give us but, the lyrics are talking about addiction to drugs. I love hearing people "roasting" drugs. Seriously, when you use drugs you're like a puppet that anyone can control you.

I’ve always believed this. They play a riff for 30 seconds that other bands would kill for.
