I remember when my dad introduced me to Metallica when i was around 4 or 5 years old, and we listened it when we were driving in car in late night. Such a vibe from early childhood. I’m about to rant about how much I love this song. Everything comes together so well and Metallica truly is telling a story through their lyricism. Even down to the instrumental. The song is obviously narrated by the substance, towards the user. The most remarkable part to me is the bridge before that last “Master, Master” Sounds to me as if the person has now reached an overdose and is falling into the pits of death with that last scream. The tone of the guitars riffs guides you through the user going through the steps of a near death experience and as the music slowly progresses back up to the basic tune of the song as if the user is now coming back to life now trying to live without the drug and now going through a phase of rage. “Master, Master where’s the dreams that I’ve been after? Master, Master you promised only lies …” It’s just very interesting and impressive to see just how Metallica produced this song. This is good music. It really portrays the demonization of drugs and just how they can control you. Well done

The intro never fails to give me chills!

I discovered this song/album twenty years ago because the guy I had a crush on was a huge fan and I wanted to impress him. Never worked out, and I haven't seen him in fifteen years but that crush opened me up to an entire world of music I had never known before. Master is still one of my favourite songs. I know every beat of it. Fuck the people who don't want others to discover metal the "wrong" way. There is no bad way to be introduced to great stuff. I'm glad young people have found out about this by ST. The more the better! Peace!

I was trying to figure it out on the banjo the other day.

Metallica literally saved my life with this song. I listened to this track multiple times a day for weeks to give me the strength I needed to beat my meth addiction. As of writing this comment, I am 13 months and 10 days clean, holding a job, and working on buying my first house. I'm me again. I can only imagine where I'd be if I hadn't discovered this track and gotten the metaphorical kick in the balls it gave me. As cliché as this comment may be, seriously, if you're reading this and you are struggling in a similar way I was, it's not too late. You are so much stronger than you think. And yet addiction nearly destroyed Metallica and James Hetfield some 16 years later. Singing about it is one thing...learning from it is another.

Those ''master'' back vocals fading away to let the ''high'' mellow part of the song enter sends chills down my spine. What a beautiful song about some of the darkest places humans can find themselves.

Lord have mercy. This is one of the fastest songs ever created off the album. This propelled them to where they are today. If it wasn't for this song and album Metallica wouldn't be where they are at all. Metallica has gotten so big to the point they became a household name for everyone around the world. Thank you Metallica for creating this album. If it wasn't for you guys i wouldn't be jamming to this album whole at the jam. This helps me get through the day all day. All 4 of you guys deserved to be in the Hall of Fame. Regardless what all the haters say you guys got great albums on earth. Especially listening to Kirk's solos. No one would compare to what Kirk would do on his solos. He has great solos on each album. Keep up the good work guys.

As someone who has dealt with drug addiction, mostly heroin this song explains it so much. The drug is your master & you're just its puppet. Itll cut your strings it controls whenever it gets tired of you & wants to be someone else's master.

The whole song is a metaphor for drug addiction and this line specifically refers to “chopping breakfast” possibly referring to something like cocaine or another form of drug in front of a mirror to see just exactly what you are doing to yourself and how one is spiraling further into addiction. 🥀Valkyrie🥀 you could be right but also a lot of people use a mirror to put their coke, heroin, whatever on and divide into lines cause it's easy to snort a line off of a smooth surface like a mirror and then each line is usually a good hit. You don't waste anything that way.
