In all respect to his work, he's far from being the best bass player to ever exist. I'd say Victor Wooten has that spot. Even if we talk about metal bass, the man on the top would be Les Claypool without a doubt (I'm talking about technique, creativity and legacy).

Cliff, steve harris, geddy lee, the ox, and of newer players and bands ryan martinie , alex webster, les claypool. Victa wooten, marcus miller. The list goes on but i remember hearing cliffs bass solo on a tape back in the 90s and being blown away it wasnt till the early 2000s when a friend caught me doing gallops with my right hand along with iron maiden and said dude you should play bass that i bugged my mom to get me one for christmas (squire mb4 skull and cross bones finish) ugly ass bass but at the time i thought it was rad.. Look at me now playing mostly Spectors with my 2 main basses being my old Q4 pro with a 18 volt box powering its darkglass tone capsule and my new 2020 spector euro 5 lt violet burst(sweetwater exclusive color) ill never go back to the time before i picked up a bass those were my dark days where i had not release for all the pain i went though in my adolescence (abuse physical mental and sexual) bass kept me from doing things ive watched friends die from and for that ill keep learning the trade and show my daughter the music and let her decide what she wants when she is old enough...

It's not lost, you're just looking in the wrong places. He plays a higher tone of bass, not that deep muddy bullshit. And, no, it's not lost on Master, at all. Master is clear as day through the whole album, and even has a bass solo that dominates the mix. Do some research before you make false claims. Even on Kill 'em All the bass shines through. Take the 4 horsemen for example. Should be enough said.

Listen to this isolate bass track again...now think of how the songs would sound if they were louder. They would not sound good. Honestly speaking, these bass tracks are absolutely awful. They are sloppy, noisy and worst of all, they are out of time. They weren't essentially mixed out of the early albums for no reason. Sorry, but these bass tracks are awful. It is sad and tragic that Cliff died so young. But he was not the bass god that so many people think of him as.

4:37 Despite the massive production, you can still hear the slight miscounted power chords before the guitar, the string slide squeals, and the rawness of Cliff's tone. That's just icing on the cake, putting rawness with power. Thank you for everything you've done, you truly were a genius, Cliff.

Cliff is truly inspirational to not just people who want to become bassists but even other bassists from very known bands were taking his notes and made many people realize that bass isn't useless in metal music. It's a shame that he passed away way too soon.
