This was a "Monsters of Rock" concert (free). They stopped counting at 1.6 million but by the time AC/DC and Pantera came out they estimated closer to 2 million. It was held at an airfield so there's plenty of room. The military was security!! 🤘🤘🤘🎶🎼🎼🎵🎸🎹🥁🎧🎤🎙🤘🤘🤘

This was the Monsters of Rock Festival. So there were more bands (AC/DC included). Estimates vary on crowd size, but totals range from 700k-1.6 million throughout. Either way, it is a remarkable crowd. I enjoy seeing people react to Metallica, because it is cool to see them slowly catch on to WHY Metallica is such a revered band. I've been to several Metallica shows over the years and they are phenomenal live. Great reaction, Sir! PS: Lars Ulrich, the drummer, is Danish.

It was more than the population of Detroit Michigan in the 1990s. Source, I survived Detroit in the 1990s😂😂😂 The helicopters were to circulate air otherwise the crowd might suffocate on top of the 50-ish people that died during the shows. May god rest their beautiful souls they gave their lives for the chance of freedom.

This was the first rock concert in the Soviet Union. There were several big name bands. My understanding is it was held at an Air Force Base. The helicopters were flown low, because it was very hot, and the helicopter backwash were like big fans. Metallica and metal fans, please correct anything I've said in error. And who were the other bands?

Metallica is one of the most palatable metal bands, a great place to start that journey. This song is about being ushered into sleep by the Sandman, and not knowing what kind of dreams you may live that night. In this case, the terror of nightmares. The next song they do at this performance is "Creeping Death" and it is amazing. A song about the life of Moses in the section of Exodus in the Bible. The Creeping Death is the plague inflicted on the Egyptians, also known as the Angel of Death.

Just like a teacher. Will the Russian crowed understand what the lyrics mean? I'm a retired teacher, 13 years in Compton Ca, yes that city, A good many of my students didn't understand English. I would think that they were into the music. It's 1991 and the wall had come down and this was their exposure to American rock.

Any Metallica song is a good listen. However if you don't mind looking at vocal-less covers I strongly recommend you watch Tina S -For the love of God- Steve Vai cover. She was 17 at the time and did the cover so well the original guitar player (one of the best who ever did it) congratulated her for how incredible she did on one of his most advanced songs. Well worth the listen.
