Finishing the Millennium!
Blackened was performed only 11 times in the 90's. 8 times in 1990 and 3 times in 1999. And 0 times in 1991-1998 This is a rare performance!

@@a.t.3192 can you explain where's his technical superiority? he can't play second neck notes without pull up bass.. because he doesn't want to play in normal position and his left hand is not trained at all to go till end neck.. just an example. He struggle a lot in fast song. He's worst choice they could make. And he doesn't fit in after so many years, 18 years wtf.

Haha Kirk was going for the shortened version during his solo while the rest of the just played the full thing, it's like nobody told him before the show. XD Anyway, this is still great to see, hopefully one day we'll get to see the whole show!

No, they dont do short versions live, it was Lars that stopped too early, he just messed up, maybe its was a monitor issue couldn't here clearly, or he just lost concentration day dreaming.

They haven't played Blackened in full since the 90s. They shorten the solo and eliminate the main riff before that last verse.

Actually it's not in Detroit. It's actually in Pontiac, which is about 30 miles northwest of Detroit.

I was there! Kid Rock messed Detroit Rock City up. Good show though Pontiac is not Detroit.
Trujillo is great and all, but the last few years Jason played in the band is the tightest they've ever sounded live.

in the show, he's frozen in time at new year's for 1000 years.
This is by far the best playing period of Lars. He was phenomenal in all these late 90s shows. His drumming just flows perfectly....same as with the S&M shows, which were also in the late 90s.

Unfortunately not. He had best sound and skills around 89-93, here he is starting to be really sloppy. In S&M he is not mostly because they didn't choose too many difficult songs (and Battery is the easiest out of the fast paced ones they have actually), and because of the fact he has metronome out there.

yeah lars playing really was at its peak at that time . i remember that well because drummers ( not internet critics that play on pilows :D like we have nowadays ) didn't make fun of him at that time like now plus he started to develop his signature sound in the 90s and his playing is more mature . personaly his playing on S&M is the major reason i started drumming . and 90s metallica and especially 98/99 will always be great for nostalgic reasons . and Man Jason Newsted really added to metallica both in live shows and bass playing .

Why are you guys so butthurt..? I love Metallica and been listening to them since 1986, gone to I dont know how many shows around the world and they always deliver. Im a drummer myself and been playin all of those songs for decades both with my band and in my studio, THATS WHY I dont like when the songs are not played like they are suppose to, and for example KEY part in Blackened where you always are air drumming along at the shows and then hear this bullshit, it annoys me and shitload of others. So yes I've got EVERY right not to wanna lick Lars asshole and agree to this indifference in that crazy killer song. Metallica 🤘

A strange aspect: when Jason was in the band, the echoes were actually echoes. With Rob, Rob actually sings the echoes.
One of the best version. Jason is so fast and his voice fit perfect with James. And the bass sound kick ass!
Man the drums sound killer here!
I personally preferred Metallica's sound around this time. Less saturation, tighter, more chunk than chug. Plus Jason's playing is brutal! Awesome

I was there with my younger brother and cousin. Drove from owensboro Kentucky. I'll never forget it...great memories. That's back when you didnt need a passport for Canada. Drove over to Windsor Ontario while we were there.
I was there, second row center stage in the snake pit in front of James’s mic. I remember drinking beers in the silver dome parking lot and partying with everyone. Everyone was in such a good mood and Nuggent and seven dust were awesome. Kid rock also performed. Best part was we didn’t know if the world was gonna end or what the 2000’s would bring. Oh to be young again

I was there...very memorable. Silverdome...Y2K..everyone thought planes would fall from sky. Metallica was amazing. I remember at least 3 encores

No. New millenium is January 1st 2001. Since year 1 is the first year of the calendar, year 1000 is the last of the 1st millenium, and 2000 the last year of the 2nd.

I was there, and the crowd got kinda quiet as the clock struck midnight, with all the fears of y2k, could you imagine? Being stuck in a stadium packed with people with no power? Of course it never happened, and all the bands took to the stage to jam Detroit Rock City as a finale. Best concert ever.
I was there, literally right at the stage, left of center! What an incredible night. Please put that whole concert up on KZread!

I was here. We were ringing in the New Year with Y2K and Metallica, with NO beer. The Silverdome stopped selling beer at a certain time so there were a lot of upset people. Lol. It took 2.5 hoirs to get back to our hotel cause after cause they had like 1 taxi. Lol. I'm serious. It was crazy. My husband and brother fell asleep in the hallway where we were waiting. It was an excellent concert though. We had such a great time. Metallica was awesome as usual. Jason was my favorite.
