I think the big thing there was the fact he didn't look overwhelmed by any of it. You can't have a 'new' guy that has to figure out how to get his playing up to a level that can handle the material. Rob was there from the second he walked in the room. Plus, you have to have a positive, laid back, take-it-as-it-comes attitude to work with James and Lars.

I thought so too! But this time around, the guys weren't looking for someone that "dresses" like them, they were looking for someone with the skills to play their music and the ability to get along with the band more on a personal level. So dressing in a basket ball jersey and shorts in every concert doesn't matter. As long as the bass skills are present, and thats what matters the most, IMO.

Absolutely agree!! Rob might've played it better technically, but Scott's tone was the best because it wasn't trying to sound "Metallica"... a stoner-Metallica album in the vein of "Circus Leaves Town" would've been mindblowing!!

Rob was the right choice... but I still often wonder about Scott Reeder (his work on The Circus Leaves Town album is fantastic!); I really like his tone here, totally different from anything stereotypically "Metallica" sounding... might've lead to a bit more experimental-Metallica stuff, which has always been my fave!

Well out of all the other bass players, Rob was the only one that had the proficiency from his previous projects, like Suicidal, and Infections Grooves. The other bass players were from NIN, Kyuss, The Cult, Jane's Addiction and Pepper is from COC but he plays guitar. Of course Rob is going to be the best one out of those. If they got a bunch of other bassists that are more accustomed to the faster tempos and more complex parts, I wonder how Rob would've stacked up.

  • @SeanMusicFreak
