Classic
The composition of this song, and every song on this album for that matter, is insane. James and Kirk are madmen for even writing the And Justice for All songs.

What's even more nuts is how young they were at the time. Barely 25, binge-drinking every other day, and somehow reinventing an entire genre of music.

AGreed. I really like blackened. It would be cool if he had options for doing the intro in reverse and normal.
The riff starting at 2:09 is the best on the album
Harmony riff at 1:37 is probably my favorite part of the song! Great tab and playing 🤘

Thank you friend. I have to say the harmony in lower register in the outro section makes me crazy and all the ending too , with James power chords, so epic ... !! Just a killer song from A to Z !
Having been a bassist for over 20 years I never bothered learning any basslines off AJFA because they’re inaudible - but I started playing guitar recently and am getting used to skinny strings and a pick by learning James Brown (the Funkmasters book) and Metallica. And the title track of AJFA is one of my favourites, so thank you for this excellent video - it might take me a while to get it nailed!

Beautifully played and great tutorial!!!
More details -On the pre-chorus riff the guitar on the left plays the slides with normal power chords and the guitar on the right plays the inverted power chords like in the video, that's how it is on the recording, you can hear it if you listen closely to the isolated tracks. -The final chord of the chorus is 1st fret on the sixth string, 3rd fret on the fifth string and fifth fret on the Fourth string, basically a F power chord with and added g with the Pinky, that's how it is on the recording and you can see them doing it live too. Just a few more details for those who want to learn the song exactly like the recording.
I think it is the most complex song of this band, it is quite difficult to learn, I congratulate you sir!!!!

Amazing lesson. I just to add a thing, in 3:18, listening and to the comments at the guitar track isolated, the F5 is actually played with the 5th fret in the D string, instead of 3rd fret being: D)5 (i personally think that each guitar of A)3 the overdub are playing two E)1 Power chords separetely)

I like this tune so much me too. Very honor for your attention man ... i think i know the book you speak about, this is the "normal" book we can find everywhere ? Normally i got it somewhere in my room. The book with a lot of mistakes if i remember well, wrong notes, wrong fingerings and edit not so good... :/ The Art Of Guitar channel did a good video on that topic i guess. I want to do (hope this new 2022 year to come) the un-official songbook with right and real transcriptions, like i do with Black Album this year 2021. You can find e-mail on my " about section " normally.
@Sergey34
2 жыл бұрын
@@JulienMENARD Check your mail. Is this the exact book you are talking about?
@JulienMENARD
2 жыл бұрын
Yes friend this is this one. The one you send me is the 2nd edition. Difference between 1st and 2nd is the edit. Made by the famous Andy Aledort on the 2nd one (via Cherry Lane) that's why this 2nd edition is more easier to read, but the transcription still the same as the 1st edition. It means first : lot of mistakes (simply not the good notes) Second : the fingering are often wrong, not as James or Kirk play it, the string is not the good one to play some notes etc... and this kind of things. Final : the edit is like often in every book, really not friendly to read and to understand. That's why i work a lot on my edit, and of course the edit of the pdf i sell via my PayPal. Cause the same transcription with 2 different edit can change everything for the reader. It can looks like really difficult or really clear and easy (it's always relative, we don't speak about a beginner exercice of course) On these books (cherry lane etc...) sometimes you have only the lyrics without the tab, so you don't know exactly what play at this exact time, sometimes you have a riff down on the page, sometimes you have coda, sometime the riff for guitar solo is just with rhythm notation etc... really not friendly ! Take this song (And Justice For All) and do the comparison with my transcription and the book (where on the neck, which strings, which fret, muted or not, dead notes or not, the size of each bars etc...) You will see all the differences, and i can tell you, what i play, it's like James and Kirk play, i study this for decades, i listen one million times the cd's, and watch hundred of videos, in different eras of the band. Of course some stuff never played live, are still mysterious to this day (intro of To Live is To Die, how many guitars exactly ? What they really play ? ) this kind of details but we start to be close too much ! Hope you will can make this comparison friend and tell us the result !

Actually i use exact same gear, guitar, pedals on every videos. Just some tweak on the EQ knobs to be close for each songs, when it's needed, guided by ear. And of course, always try to play in the way, which is more important than the gear.

It matters in the tone of course, you have to try what's work for you, combined with your gear, it's all about a mixture of everything... Since my Orion video i use the John Petrucci Custom Jazz 3 - 1,5mm.
@peachmelba1000
2 жыл бұрын
Use whatever works for you. Try a bunch of different picks. Keep in mind that when James and Kirk started on guitar, there weren't many pick options, so their styles partly came out of that. Much easier to downpick very fast with a medium pick than a heavy one.

You like the challenge but it's really good. No matter what guitar you have, most important is to practice ! Keep on the good work friend.
I have a question since I'm a bit confused about the intro. I get that you devided Kirk's and jemes' guitar but in the original song the 1st part, that is before the two guitars part, is repeated twice and the part that you put after the two guitars part doesn't exist. So I'm not sure whether I'm hearing something wrong in the original song or if I'm just dumb hahha.

^-^ Bon courage avec ce super titre qu'est And Justice For All !

I still believe AJFA is their best album. I’d put Puppets a close second. AJFA is so technical.
I'm a little confused about the intro. It took me a while to understand the riff is played throughout the whole intro, but now that I have figured it out, i see you're playing 2 harmonies besides that riff, and metallica have only 2 guitarists. Am I missing something? Edit: I see it happening in other parts too, like in the riff crunch
@JulienMENARD
Жыл бұрын
You missing nothing friend. They are 2 guitar players, live... but in the studio, James often record many parts. Justice intro is good exemple. Intro like Battery is the same. That's why they don't play these intro live, it's a tape. And sometimes like the melodic bridge in Master of Puppets (after the clean guitar) normally, you have the 2 harmony guitars, and the clean is still behind on the studio. In live situation this clean guitar disappear and they just play the harmonies, and i like better like this. Hope it makes sense.
