Bass sings up to high tenor. Baritone sings bass to tenor. High tenor sings down to baritone. Lead tenor sings in whatever style he wants to. Beatboxer sings beautiful tenor, but covers bass to high tenor with his percussion and beatboxing. Oh and they all can sing lead, harmonize, do percussion AND beatbox. Add to that basket of talent some good guy vibes, wicked sense of humor (and acting skills), fantastic production team, great songwriting skills and the ability to upgrade any song they cover. They always shift the focus to any artist they collaborate with and are very socially aware. I love HF. 😊

left to right: Rob Lundquist (tenor), Adam Chance (known as Chance) (baritone and bass particularly when Tim is signing melody/harmony), Austin Brown (high tenor), Adam Rupp (charter member, beatboxer and tenor); Tim Foust (bass, baritone, tenor). There is no "lead" singer, just whoever is best for a particular song or verse. Chance did the mouth harp, Adam does the rest and his no-monica is sterling (although some of the nature sounds might be someone else, they have borrowed people for crickets, etc. in the past). Harmonies are HF's meat and potatoes. They do them better than almost anyone else. They have fantastic arrangements that play up the harmonies and show off the various members. The HF catalog is wide and deep - enjoy!

I've seen a lot of people say: "I don't like 'Country'," and they're mostly talking about the stuff you're likely to hear on the radio Today. But in the past, the genre was a lot more varied. This song is from over 100 years ago. And Home Free does a lot of older country, and country/pop from 40-50 years ago. So a lot of reactors will say, after hearing Home Free, "I don't like country, but..." And Tim Foust's bass doesn't hurt either 😉

This is one of the most popular Home Free songs. It was the first song I ever heard from Home Free & I was instantly hooked. It really showcases the talent of these 5 men (their tight harmonies & Tim Foust's bass & Adam Rupp's incredible beatboxing). They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney. Some of my favorites are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "In The Blood", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "How Great Thou Art", "Elvira", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Brother In Arms", "One Man Band", "Listen To The Music" etc.

Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. There is not a permanent lead singer in Home Free, but they look (listen) at every song whose voice suits it best. The best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). .. This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing.

Love your reactions by the way. There are two members that can sing bass. Tim Foust is the primary bass (although he does have a 5+ octave range) but Adam Chance can also cover bass, especially when Tim is singing in a higher register. And yes, completely a Capella. The beat boxer, Adam Rupp is one of, if not THE best beat boxer out there. I have been fortunate enough to see them live twice.

And young Timmy, claims that his voice is the second deepest in the group, with Adam *Rupp* being able to sing deeper (although he would normally be classed as a tenor)

This is also normally not my genre, but I love Home Free. Still, their "heavier" country songs are not really my favorites, but for example Brothers in Arms, Listen to the Music and Do You Hear What I Hear (recommended Christmas reaction!) I thoroughly enjoy. Tim Foust has great solo stuff too, his range is incredible. Groetjes!

Home Free decribes itself as a country acapella band, but they do many other things as well. You cannot pin them down to one genre. There is no lead singer. They either take different verses as they did here or pick the member whose voice best fits the song. So here are the guys and a recommendation that features each of them as the lead: Front row left to right: Rob Lundquist - lead tenor - smooth voice with a lot of soul - End of the Road Austin Brown = high tenor - incredibly strong and flexible voice - When a Man Loves a Woman Tim Foust = Bass = five octave range and "plays" the bass guitar - Ring of Fire (Sing-off version) Back row left to right: Adam Chance (aka Chance) - rich baritone w/ 3 octave range - Cover me Up Adam Rupp - beatboxer extraordinaire - beat box solo, Listen to the Music

Home Free is the real deal. I love them. Yes, a mouth harp done by Chance, (back left). Adam, beatboxer, was doing drums, harmonica and other sounds. When live Austin (lead here) joins Adam and does a harmonica as well. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can go super low and then sing up with the tenors. You heard him drop an octave after his solo. To hear more bass try Brothers in Arms, I Can’t Outrun You, Skull and Bones. They’re so talented.😍

I would consider the Home Free version to be a more "traditional" rendition of the song (although with a bluegrass flavor), where Geoff Castellucci's has a more "pop" flavor - slightly faster tempo, simple instrumentation, and the new bridge he wrote for the song. Which is better is strictly up to the listener - they're both amazing in very different ways!

Subbed for more Home Free. I'm impressed that: 1) you recognized the jaw harp sound (aka mouth / juice/ jews harp) (sing by Chance); 2) you realized Adam was creating the harmonica sound (or no-monica); 3) that you caught Tim's bass octave drop; and 4) you didn't call the American Alligator a croc! (OK, so you called it a puppy... 😅) Very good reaction! Suggest for more bass: Brothers In Arms Skull And Bones (with acoustic guitar & mandolin) Misty Mountains (Tim Foust & Peter Hollens, on Peter's channel. Peter is a friend & collaborator of HF) Do You Hear What I Hear (for Christmas) Home Free bills themselves as a Country group, but they (or individual members) sing almost every genre. There's not a bad song in their catalog. Others: When A Man Loves A Woman Folsom Prison Blues Blue Ain't Your Color Workin' For A Livin' (more no-monica) Brother (shows their fun side) Helplessly Hoping (pure 5-part harmony) Nessun Dorma (Austin Brown & Rob Lundquist, on Austin's channel. "Two Country Singers Try To Sing Opera ") Welcome to this deep rabbit hole called Home Free!

Great reaction new sub. Love Home Free there so good. A few you may like to check out are a few collaborations they done with the original artist of the songs. There’s American Pie with Don McLean he contracted them to remake it for its 50 year anniversary. They’ve done Elvira with the Oak Ridge boys, God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the United States Airforce band durning covid so they are in different locations but still is amazing.

So many great songs to enjoy with this amazing group; their catalogue is deep with many genres, their covers are upgrades, the collaborations always let the featured artists (often the original artist!) truly shine, and their originals are fantastic. From silly to serious they've got it all. Listen for the multiple layering of "instruments" and BGVs, plus "tingle-worthy" harmonies. Home Free never disappoints. Some favourites for your consideration: One Man Band (shot in 1 take) Take Me Home Country Roads (they worked on the arrangement for 5 years, until they tho't they had it just right, and that John Denver would approve) Dreamer, LIVE at the Ryman feat. Texas Hill (the introductions are great; this is an original) One Voice feat. Billy Gilman (watch to the end) Might As Well Be Me (new original)

As far as Tim (bass), he's had my heart since I discovered them early in quarantine. I have learned to judge the quality of the reactions by just 2 things, based on a YT playlist of over 350 reactions to this cover. 1st is recognizing that there is no actual harmonica in a timely fashion and 2nd is acknowledging the octave drop by the bass in the chorus following his solo. You sir passed easily and better than most. As a bonus, you recognized immediately the mouth harp / jaw harp sound AND distinguished that from a didgeridoo. Bravo, one of the best reactions to Home Free's cover of this song.

Though published in 1913 by Dick Burnett who did not compose it, this song is an old American Folk Song. It was old when published - he just put it to paper. Prior to that it was learned "by ear" having originated in & around Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts.

Great reaction. Keep the Home Free coming 😁 Home Free breakdown Official version - or How the guys introduce themselves (current line up) Adam Rupp - beatboxer (from Minnesota) Rob Lundquist - tenor (from Minnesota) Austin Brown - high tenor (from Georgia) Adam Chance - baritone (from Alabama) Tim Foust - bass (from Texas) Realistic version Beatboxers - 5 (including 1 freak of nature) Tenors - 5 Baritones - at least 3 (pretty sure they can all get into baritone range, though…) Basses - at least 2 (I mean, have you heard those bass notes Adam hits while beatboxing?) The Guys Adam Rupp: beatboxer extraordinaire, tenor/high tenor (mostly harmonies), co-founder, lovingly called The Freak of Nature. Fans are still debating whether or not he is in fact human or alien. Rumour has it he swallowed a drum kit as a child Chris Rupp: baritone(bass at live performances when Tim sings lead), co-founder, left the group in spring of 2016 to do other projects Rob Lundquist: lead tenor, whistler, opera singer and rapper, also known as Gospel Rob or The Beard Austin Brown: high tenor, also does a mean No-monica and other instrumental sounds, aka The Home Free Heartthrob Adam Chance: (or just Chance, not to get the 2 Adams confused): baritone/bass, throat singing, various instrumental sounds (including the mouth/jaw harp in Man of Constant Sorrow), replaced Chris Rupp in 2016 Tim Foust: Legendary Super Bass, also sings baritone, tenor and high tenor whenever he feels like it, does a mean walking bass, can go so low he breaks sound systems and so high people think it’s Austin…

The last guy you see on the video, Adam Chance, is the one making the mouth harp (AKA jaw harp, jews harp) sounds.

Gotta give the love to Darren Rust, producer for putting everything together for an album track but this song is as good live (been there) because Adam is a stud with the loops!

If you like bass and acapella, you should try Bass Gang’s ‘Mad World’. You will get all the tingles in the best places.

Yes, I resemble that remark! 😂 Never liked country music, & still don't, BUT - I LOVE Home Free & everything they do + Austin's solo work. 💜

Look up and review Adam Rupp solo. You will never look at a beatboxer the same way.

@ 7:30 you see Adam Chance on the porch and if you watch his mouth, he's doing the mouth harp sound.

Now that you are slightly more hooked it surely is time for the Skull and Bones and the Sea Shanty Medley (shot and recorded in the pandemic circumstances), but as a warm up I suggest you listen to their version of Brothers in Arms.

As much as you love bass, you should listen to Geoff Castalucci's 16 Tons. It is the best example of bass singing I've ever found. He never loses the melody when he drops into the lowest registers. And his range is spectacular! He does all 4 parts flawlessly.
