I really enjoy watching musicians react to music that I love! I find your reactions worth the watch because of these short insights on music composing/production, and how you value Ghost's songs because of these elements that aren't immediately obvious for the casual listener. As for this track, it's definitely a sleeper. Took me a while to "get" it, but it's become one of my favorites from Infestissumam. I love the edgy guitar tone on the second solo, it's such a contrast coming from the cleaner verse and chorus sections! The lyrics are definitely exotic as well, haven't seen many bands questioning how weird the Eucharist is, the whole consuming Christ's actual body and how this almost looks like a satanic ritual. Tobias is an absolute genius.

If you're looking to react to every original ghost song then make sure you don't miss la mantra mori (infestissumam bonus track) and zenith( meliora bonus track. Only released on vinyl). If you're interested in the covers there's a bunch. Most of them are on the "if you have ghost" and "popestar" EPs. They also covered 'here comes the sun' as an opus bonus track, enter sandman for the Metallica blacklist album, 'its a sin' by pet shop boys and 'avalanche' by Leonard Cohen were bonus tracks on prequelle, and you can find a video of Tobias as papa with the hellacopters performing a cover of sympathy for the devil on a Swedish game show.

Super glad you are enjoying Ghost. Just in case you did not know, each of the albums have Deluxe and Japanese versions that have additional tracks. For example, the Japanese version of Opus Eponymous has an extra track that is a cover of the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun". Infestissuman has several additional tracks. You can find those songs here on KZread. Definitely worth checking them out also. (And now after posting this I realize someone else already posted about this. Worth repeating I guess.)

Agree 100%, it’s a sleeper that sneaks up on you. Took me a while to realise how much I love this one. And it really is the perfect palate cleanser after the grandiosity of Year Zero. The lyrics are fuckin nuts haha, it’s about eating communion and shitting out the body and blood of christ lol. Some metal shit if ever I heard it. Idolatrine and Depth of Satan’s Eyes are the most forgettable tracks on the record for me but they’re not bad. Monstrance Clock will blow your mind and you gotta check out the version from the live album Ceremony and Devotion. Skip La Mantra Mori and I’m a Marionette, dude. They’re deluxe extra songs not on the original album. The first is their absolute worst song and the second is a cover, and not one of their best. Don’t let the extras tarnish the album, Monstrance Clock is the perfect closing track!
@ajclegend007 Жыл бұрын
The song is about the absurdity of communion. It also represents the great schism in the Catholic church where it split into holy Roman and eastern Orthodox because of their different views on communion. Eastern Orthodox believes that when you eat the bread and drink the wine it actually transforms into the body and blood of Christ and if you don't believe this you aren't Christian where as the holy Roman church believes that it's only symbolic because if you were to eat and drink of the messiah you would also have to shit or defecate him out which would be blasphemous. I picture Jesus in hell, his dead body upon a table where demons are gathered around and Lucifer is about to carve him up while all the goblets are filled with Jesus's blood 😈

No, the Roman Catholic Church also teaches that, in the Eucharistic offering, bread and wine are literally changed into the body and blood of Christ and only _look_ like they’re still bread and wine. It’s called transubstantiation.
