Richard Hawk having cheesy voice tone followed by DSP seal laugh is like a cherry on top

The voice direction sounds so much like the acting done in voiced examples of english teaching classes. It's super charming and I love how it helps accentuate the action movie/ early anime tone of the game.

I love how Micheal's motivation, even to the end is *"i'm the mother fucking president, fuck you, i do what i want"*

The fact that we describe anything genuine and silly with food metaphors is weirdly fitting! Cause like a fine meal, feeling this genuine unironic passion no matter how silly it looks to anyone else is just so satisfying

the voice acting reminds me of a high school play where only like 3 people are actually serious about the performance, the others are just there to pass the class. i genuinely love it. it’s perfect in every way. i really hope to see some indie games use a similar style of voice direction, like how some use ps1/sega saturn style low poly 3d models

The interplay of rival duels as a metaphor for a relationship will never get old

20:02 Obviously the reason the cannon is made like that is because Richard had it secretly be built like that without Michael knowing, obviously. Why? Obviously because Richard's old nemesis used to live on that side of the country and hence the country won't be pure until that monster's birth-cradle is turned to ashes. Who's this man? Some random dude that beat Richard at a game of strip poker once over 15 years ago, obviously. Richard is that petty over losing a game? I mean obviously but that's not even the point, Richard lost not only the game that day, but his purity, naturally he immediately killed the man that tainted him at that very moment point blank. Still, the deed had been done and now Richard could never marry; this is actually the whole reason the entire plot of the game happens of course, as if it wasn't because of him being tainted everyone knows he would have immediately married Michael the moment he met him. Gosh, to ask such naive obviousl questions without knowing the even the slightest bit of lore, people like that are indeed the most annoying.

From what I saw, this whole war started because Richard loves Michael so much, he wanted him all to himself. The fact that Michael didn´t reciprocate these feelings, since he had eyes only for Jody, let to Richard going insane. He started extreme acts just to get Michaels attention, making him chase after him, even trying to blow up his romantic rival. The end was especially gripping, when Richard saw Michael trying to save him, but most likely realized the gravity of his crimes and that he cannot be forgiven.

7:41 While I only have personal experience with this game and the newest armored core (fires of rubicon), I have seen enough gameplay of the older titles to confidently say that metal wolf has very similar gameplay to the first 3 generations of armored core games (specifically the 3.5 generation, the one that finally got analog camera controls). There are some differences like the weapons being less wacky in armored core and how metal wolf has no mech customizing, but overall if you pick up 3.5 gen AC game like nexus it probably won’t be too hard to adjust. The AC games from 4 onward have massive gameplay changes between generations though, from 5th gen’s “mostly the same as older gens” to 4th gen’s “fast as a coked up cheetah that watched too much anime”. Edit: Also fun fact, the best way too avoid Richard’s super move? Use your own, it makes you invincible for the duration and in the first arena there’s a pickup in one of the slot machines that gives full super meter.

At long last, Bumbles covering mecha stuff...and as a Gundam fan, I love how this is just "Heavyarms: The Game", just missing a few acrobatics here and there PD: I think Oscar Hammerstein II was the first to come up with "corny" as an insult, back in 1946

I don't know who voiced Richard Hawk but he deserves an award just for his laugh

It's fun to just say this game is a direct sequel to metal gear revengance. With Michael and Richard's were Armstrong opponents politically.

You go so hard on little details, even things you reuse like transitions are still changing and updating constantly. You're forever an inspiration and a goal to strive for, as far as I'm concerned. Only just started but I feel you on the rant about corny-ness. Sincerity is not a weight to hold down, or, dare I say, “cringe.” Your dad joke might result in rolled eyes, but I guarantee that even the stupidest, most poorly put together joke can make someone smile. You are not cringe for writing what you like, or singing what you like. You are not cringe for being yourself.

Richard's voice is halfway between a guy talking very casually and saturday morning cartoon villain insulting the main character.

Knew this was going to be a good video as soon as I heard extremely high praise of Devolver Digital.

I haven't cackled like this in SO LONG. Only thing better than Richard and Jodi is how you frame and bounce off them.

Ive never heard of this game before and now i will never not think about this game.

As an American I can aonfirm this is 100% accurate I was just saved by robot president a week ago

Games like these are important to me like blood or 3-4 hour long video essays about obscure video games

If you're a big fan of games with excellent and satisfying gameplay but a story filled to the brim with cheese and corn, I can't help but feel like you would enjoy the Kingdom Hearts series.

Somehow the thought process leading to this game happened again, but at Intelligent Systems around 2013-2014. Leading to the release of Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., which has sequences where Abraham Lincoln pilots a giant steampunk mech.

If you want a game series with the same energy as Metal Wolf Chaos, check out the EDF series. ITs basically all the glorious RE1 level voice acting and the crazy situation played serious as MWC but instead of the president your a soldier with ridiculous guns fighting giant bugs, robots, aliens, and fucking godzilla.

Richard gives me vibes of Bruce Campbell's narrator from Spider-Man 2: The Game. Jody sounds almost like the Hyperion New-U stations from Borderlands 2, 3, and The Pre-Sequel (and the announcer on Helios, also from The Pre-Sequel). And I love them both dearly.

I literally cried laughing at 28:20. It's just.. Perfect.

It's really interesting to watch this after playing Armored Core 6, because yeah, I actually can see that they come from the same developer! AC6 doesn't control EXACTLY like MWC, but you'll be closer to the mark than if you came in from Dark Souls.
