Watching all theee videos the second (or maybe third?) time, I know realize how beginner-friendly they really are. No wonder you've gained so much praise from ONI newbies :)

A convenient way to start a volcano tamer on a very cold map (too cold for standing water, or in your case where the volcano is higher than the rest of the chamber floor) is to put a metal shift plate directly above the drop-off tile of the volcano and ice temp shifts on either side. The metal plate shifts the heat into the ice plates and instantly melts them, this floods the metal put out by the volcano and soaks up its heat to prevent refreezing. I used this on 4 iron volcanoes on my dlc play through. Worked every time.

The water is definitely boiling inside of the well while it’s over pressured.

that sad gold volcano 😂. I just throw my copper volcano inside 3-stories sauna room with couple metal refineries and a glass forge (at cycle 450) not reaching space yet, so there's several insulated ceramic pipes breaking. Been 20 cycle without any steam reaching my steam power plant at the top.

Hey hey, fairly experienced player here. here is a tip! Try putting a temp shift plate behind the oil well, as well as letting them sit in a 1.5 to 2 tile high amount of oil. Unfortunately the boiling hot Natural gas, when released, is causing the water in the oil well, as well as the 1st water pipe to flash into steam and contaminating your setup. By using the above mentioned additions, this will quickly dissipate the hot natural gas and sucessfully keep the water liquid.

I agree with this statement. I think the NG gets released at 300 and quickly causes the water in the pipes to turn to steam.

I use a not gate and 2 filter gates to delay the radbolt generator getting the green signal for about the amount of time it takes my researcher to go through 100 radbolts. Timing will vary by your dupes' schedule and science skill.

Hey about the overheating from the oil well just see your video here. If it need to be vented there is hot gas. The water in the pipe to the oil well stand stil that causes the overheat damage. you can solve it if it stil works to let the oil well fully submerged in there own oil. If i am still right so the water in the pipe get not in contact whit the hot gas from venting. The oil will the hold the water under the boiling point from the in let of the well. Good luck

This is a good tip. Most times my pipes were submerged but had gaffed on one. Insulating the pipe fixed it too.

With the chunks of gold that came out of the volcano, doesn't ONI still stack like materials at the same temp to save on using excess memory? If there's gold there at 25 degC, and some liquid gold solidifies there on top of it, doesn't the new solid gold also become that same 25 degC? I remember Tony Advanced covering this a few years ago, but I don't know if the game changed the way it does things.

Sort of. It uses an average based on temps and mass. Basic idea is 5kg at 10 deg and 5kg and 20 deg, makes the new 10kg stack 15 deg. No idea how precise this estimate is but that is the way I have seen it work in the past.

Aren’t the iron volcano and gold volcano going to overpressure at 150kg of steam. You put 8 tons of water into the steam room ?

  • @EchoRidgeGaming

Yes, the Iron had 150kg, so we let a little steam out. Now both volcanos are sitting around 120kg of steam.

Hey Echo! I was wondering if you could go into a bit more detail about your steam vent tamer! I like to follow along as im playing and unfortunately my steam vent tamer doesnt seem to be functioning. I tried to follow yours to a T but I had to guess the pipe layout and my petroliom inside my pipes just isnt cooling. Thermo aqua tuner says cooling, but the liquid being piped through it just isnt changing so my water temp is staying super high. Any suggestions?

  • @EchoRidgeGaming

Have you let it run for a while? It could be that the steam vent has soo much water and since we are forced to use Petroleum it can take a while. Make sure your pipes coming out of your aquatuner are insulated too. Also make sure you use radiant liquid pipes around the steam vent that are good at thermal conductivity. Hope this helps and good luck!

@@EchoRidgeGaming Oh there are pipes running behind the steam vent? Is there anyway you can attach a picture of your pipe setup here? That would be super helpful Also thanks soooo much for the quick response! Im still sitting here staring at it LOL

@@rochelleholifield5117 There can be depending on your setup. I wish I had a quick video of my own to point you too. Instead though I have an excellent resource. Francis John is the best there is and he has a video on this exact setup, that way you can get a quicker answer :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fK2qtKNxYMa2nZc.html

Make sure you vacuum out the volcano area before you turn it into steam. A mix of gasses can also cause problems.
