Just for yourself, watch the Tampere version of this song. It's basically their home turf and they pull out all the stops. You will be amazed at what they do with the show. No Dawkins live but the show is astounding. Keep in mind that Tuomas wrote everything for this including the orchestration.

Where they got Floor... Well her band had broken up, she was recovering from burn out and she was literaly in her sister's weddings. That's when they called her and asked "We are in middle of world tour and need singer, could you learn setlist in 48 hours?" oh and fly from Netherlands to Seattle while learning setlist. And she agreed... 😅

Now go watch the version from Tampere in 2015 - it was their 20th anniversary concert in front of their hometown crowd so they loaded up on the pyrotechnics, plus Floor's parents were in the crowd. The sound is much better on that version - this version always seems a bit muddy and dark. If you do, watch it all the way to the end of the credits.

While Tampere is the superior visual performance, Wembley's audio mix is far better balanced. Perhaps you find it muddied because you can actually hear EVERYTHING happening, where as with Tampere. there's instruments buried way down in the mix, and are nearly inaudible. It's all a matter of taste in terms of what your ears prefer, but technically speaking, this version is mixed better.

I think the Tampere 2015 performance of this song was even better. It doesn't have the E-Bow, though because Troy uses different instuments there. Everybody in Nightwish uses only one instrument except Troy that seems to be able to play any instrument known to man and in addition he sings, too.

There are so many “hidden gems” that Tuomas included in the lyrics & the music. 17:00 The musical tributes start with some African tribal drumming, then through the Gregorian chant in Dies Irae (Mozart), Bach’s Minuet in G Major followed by his famous Fugue in D Minor, followed by American banjo music, Metallica’s Enter Sandman riff (!!!), finally ending in Rap/Hip-Hop and 90s dance music. Pretty Good isn’t it?!!

Mad scientist fits well too though.

Woodwind were invented before the pipes that Troy plays, so the continuity presented in the song's story is better represented in the choice of instruments imo.

And then after they played Ghost Love Score I was kind of expecting some classics to come, but instead they played The Greatest Show on Earth, and I could barely close my mouth so amazed I was.

From the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, the first recorded with Floor and Kai. It's about the formation of the solar system and the evolution of life on Earth. Inspired by the Richard Dawkins book of the same name. That's Dawkins himself on the spoken parts, and on stage at the end. That part onstage is quote from Darwin's book, the Origin of Species. Yes, Troy is playing a guitar with EBOW at the beginning. In the Tampere 2015 version , he plays the Irish Low whistle there. (check that out later, outside with fireworks). Your 'What?' just before the first spoken part was Troy playing the Uilleann(ill-en or ill-yen) pipes. The Irish bagpipes, which uses a bellows squeezed by the elbow to inflate the bag. Uilleann is the Gaelic word for elbow. The grunts were done by all 3, Marko, Troy, and Floor. Some of the references in the song: L.U.C.A. -last universal common ancestor, the last life form from which all current life on Earth descends. Lucy of the Afar- the oldest (at the time of discovery in 1974) human ancestor remains found in the Afar in Africa, dating to about 3.2 million years. God of the gaps, whenever mankind didn't understand something, they created a god to explain it. Enter ratkind,- Some theories say rats will take over when mankind's time has ended. Yes, he did!!! It WAS the Enter Sandman riff, and there were several pieces of music around it, including by J.S.Bach, and EDM. The evolution of music. WE WERE HERE!!!! Favorite part of the song?? All of it. lol Since you liked the EBOW- While Your Lips Are Still Red at this same Wembley show. (Marko lead vocal) And for more Uilleann pipes- I Want My Tears Back at Buenos Aires 2018.

Great reaction. Wembley is awesome but you need to checkout Tampere if only for yourself. Even more epic with the stage extending out into the crowd, fireworks synched to the music, Floor's sorceress outfit, and Troy playing his Irish Low Whistle instead of the e-bow. My favorite parts are Tuomas's minimalist piano in the beginning, Floor's epic entrance, her mystical chanting, and that epic outro with music straight from the climatic scene in a hero movie and that incredibly impactful quote from Richard Dawkins. Song always leaves me uplifted and hopeful and makes me think about what I have done and what I need to do with my brief time in this universe.

I agree watch the Tampere version it's brilliant, in fact react to it, you have a very expressive face and don't really need to say anything. After watching this I bought Richard Dawkins The God Delusion, it's heavy going makes you understand the song more. Excellent reaction to this awesome band🇬🇧

I love the whole song but my favorite part is the hunting part- it's so scary! Also love that Bach part. And the end "We were here" and "We are going to die and that makes us the lucky ones..." - it gaves me chills every time I hear it.

I know the Tampere version is more popular but - from a personal POV - I rate this one more highly. I really really like the E-bow, I think that sound is so amazing and otherworldly and fitting, that isn't done in Tampere - Troy uses a woodwind instrument instead. I also think it is a shame Tampere was at twilight which takes awake some of the ambient intent of the lighting the digital screens, and the on stage effects. As the song begins with us tumbling through space as the solar system is being formed, the darkness of the Wembley auditorium helps with the effect. The lighting is a choice. The staging is a decision. A Nightwish show of this type is as much a theatrical experience as a music concert.

This was the first song Nightwish preformed when they came to St. Louis a few years back. My husband and I had not heard it before and didn't not fully appreciate the song. After listening to it a few times on the CD from the concert, this has become my favorite song of theirs. This video is my favorite one. This beats 'Story time' for my favorite album.

I just found your channel, and it's been seven months since you posted this video, but I just wanted to tell I saw them live in Tampere, Finland. They ended the show with this song. When the song began the sun was starting to set. When this song ended, it was dark (or as dark as it gets in the summer, which isn't very dark this north) and fireworks went off. The whole show was amazing, but being both a metalhead and a nature nerd, this song was an incredibly emotional experience. It's difficult to listen to this song without crying.

It's such a joy watching your reactions to Nightwish :) `I prefer this one over the Tampere one. I just love the intro of the song with Troy and the e-bow. And I love seeing the emotions of the audience at the end when Richard Dawson starts to speak. Al the best from The Netherlands!

I just never noticed but she really opened my eyes how silent many artists have become singing. She YELLS, she goes all out. And that is so much harder to sing but so much more impressive. Like, at 15:45 you can just see she goes all out, it can't get any louder.

For all those calling out the Tampere performance, it is outstanding without question and visually stunning, especially if you were there. For me personally the choice of instrumentation at Wembley was my preference and Dawkins appearance was ❤. But I am British and an Atheist so maybe some bias.🤟

I'm a Christian and I LOVE this song. I firmly believe in a creator and it doesn't matter to me if the universe was created in 7 days or in a big bang (let there be light?) evolving over millions of years. My piint is basically, this band rocks, gives it all they have and creates beautiful music, that often brings me to tears. 🤘
