HEY!.. There are 2 secrets I've missed. *The first one is at 03:40. If you throw a bomb to the upper rock when the volcanic rocks appear at the first entrance, extra point appears. *The second one is at 11:50. If you shoot the rock on the second submarine, extra point appears. 1-2 of them have escaped my attention while playing at speedrun pace. I'm sorry about that. * Boss prisoners are not secret. They help the ones who are having trouble passing the level, by providing them weapons and bombs (sometimes extra points). If I stop and wait for them while playing at speed run pace, it may cause dissatisfaction and extend the video's length. * You gain invisibility for 2 seconds when you enter a vehicle or exit. (also when you get fat, when you get diet and lose weight and also when you're gliding with the parachute). You don't die in these 2 seconds even though you've been hit by bullets or a bomb. This feature applies all Metal Slug games. After all, they want you to use this power in the game. "In tune" is putting it mildly, they bloody nailed this masterpiece of a '3' game by far. Design wise, fantastic. Story, simple to follow. Gameplay, tighter than rollerboard turn radii. Sound design, memorable. Some even creeped me out, and that really is rare for me. I still have both Xbox ports to this day, that's how much love I have along with the developers. Plus difficulty is fairly progressive, and thus quick reactions are necessary. I don't know which detail impedes a perfect score, but boy is this fantastic. No 80s pun intended, but this gets a 9. A 9.95! Metal slug forever!

Had no idea there were this many secrets in the game. What a master piece.

You understand how powerful the Shotgun is, once you realize, every enemy has a different death animation by it, and the whole screen flashes white for a fraction of a second. Every explosive shot either gets normal shared animations, alongside the Flame shot. Rocket launcher sometimes does the same kill animation as the flame shot for example, or any other explosive, or even Heavy machine gun. Shotgun is so powerful the enemy disintegrates, every molecule of their body just fades into nothing. Not even the laser gun has that molecular potency.

Too bad that the shotgun aren't available in zombie levels. I truly wanted to see what will happen to them if we use it at them. I used a cheat code once but it still the same death animation they get. I thought they could have a headshot animation but nah

Zombies, fat powers, zombie powers, POWs, an ostrich/camel and a monkey in a diaper with a fucking machine gun, deadly plants/bugs/mummies, lasers, aliens, spaceships, robots, submarines.. It was glorious!

That final mission was the most epic thing i saw at the time (and still holds up incredibly well), the variety of stages, the amount of enemies and vehicles and the sense of an actual invassion with those humans dying in the background and the amount of resources provided by every side of the conflict, totally badass

Those artists truly mastered sub-pixel animation; something I'd like to see more in contemporary indie games.

Truly Metal Slug is a masterpiece. Its fun,hardcore and full of wacky stuff and secrets. But all hands down to you who played the game like a boss. You made it, a very hardass game, look like easy sauce. Really wonderful run man. Nice showcase of the secrets too.

This video is a farce. He's hiding his game score and he did not use default settings. I know this neogeo game like the back of my hand. Default settings were not on.

Man, I used to consider myself a pretty good metal slug player until i saw your video, this game represents my childhood (im 21 years old) and till today I wasn't aware that there was a "goku" prisoner(that's how I call them) in the final mission. I´m 18 and this game was part of my childhood as well (There was a place near me and it was full of arcade machines, now it´s a shop :L) but there´s something weird about this gameplay, enemies lack of hit box and die relatively easy, were there multiple versions? After all, the game was hard as hell when there were too many enemies on the screen bc you could either touch them or take a shot accidentally.

My favorite is still Metal Slug X but man, 3 is pretty good. Love all the small details, it looks like a playable cartoon.

This is one of the greatest games of all time, incredible run.

I honestly forgot how brutal the deaths are in this game, like from those giant flying bugs, dying as a zombie, acidic slugs that burn your skin and clothes, getting eaten my walking man eating plants and probably more than I'm forgetting... God I love metal slug 3 Soo much.

It's the human condition to market the sparkly new kid on the block. These investors aren't interested in niche projects - it has to be the "latest & greatest" to sell these days. All they can do is re-release the classix for us old heads; though I do wish 2D pixel art was still the mainstream in game dev, because with the tools @ their disposal these days, they could crank out some beautiful stuff. The last great pixel-art game was KoF XIII - & the best KoF as well. SNK really held on to that 2D way of life until recently.

What an awesome game, remember going in mission 5 like “this is it the last part” and getting surprise with a new area every single time, running out of quarters. Always wonder Why this is so much superior than any other of the metal slug entries? Does anybody know?

luiswhisky I believe its more diverse with ideas,IMO For Example the Crabs,Zombies, Yetis, Etc. And all the Metal Slugs were different in this one. And the story line actually came well together,it paved the way for better plots on further Metal Slugs but for me Metal Slug 3,2,1 And X were really good

I remember reading that the developers intended this to be the last metal slug and SNK was going bankrupt so they put their all into this game.

PopGoes TheWeasel i agree they newer ones didn’t have the same magic, the newer ones were made by different developers I believe and you could definitely tell. Nothing matches the first 3 IMO and if they were to make an 8th i hope it comes close to the feel of 3.

The amount of love and passion on Metal Slug series are out of this world, I don't think we'll ever experience this again, most of the big companies are manipulating developers and hurting their creativity just to get more money for the same copy paste game. However there's some big good news, I believe part of the original team who created Metal Slug are making a new MS spinoff, it's called Black Finger JET, you can see how similar to MS series is but a little bit more modernized, please if we all come together and support them it would be awesome.

I used to play metal slug all the time. This one was my favorite of them all. I could do this first two levels without dying. But never a complete deathless run. Awesome job on this! Best run ive seen. Btw I'd aways waste one life to swap Marco out for one of the others on the last stage. Because he was my favorite and didnt want to see him get abducted. xD

This will always be my favorite metal slug game. Wacky and not restricted to typical militarily trained targets. Everyone in it is absolutely insane, and I love it!

i remember being around 10 years old when i first played this game so many good memories

I can't express how satisfying it is to watch a zombie slowly burn after you hit it with the flame shot.

loved this game, I used to play this w my brother when we were younger. ♡

Just to think about a Metal Slug FPS game with so many guns, secret loots, routes, action, humor, vehicles, and a plot twist so epic. CoD would be shit comparing to it.

There was once planned a Metal Slug MMO top-down RTS shooter game called Metal Slug Zero that would've been for the PC slated for release in 2008, but it got cancelled early in development for unknown reasons. Though to be fair, from what gameplay footage I found surrounding the game, I can see why it was cancelled.

Qi Ding i don't think so. 2D games should be remained as 2D. If you want a FPS with various guns, so mamy secret loots, action, humors, and vehicles, shadow warrior is a perfect game for you.

I personally waited for this here: 26:44 to see if he was cheating or not. Other than that, I think you did an amazing job. I've yet to see someone completing all Metal Slug games at Level 8. I've tried and it's IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!! Anyone up for the challenge?? I mean, you can die but without continuing.
