Metal Shark's 38 Defiant is a welded-aluminum monohull pilothouse vessel proven in service with U.S. and foreign militaries, state and local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, pilot associations, and other operators. The 38 Defiant may be equipped with triple outboards, or twin diesel inboards with water jets, surface drives, or conventional straight shafts. This proven and highly capable platform may be custom-configured to suit a wide range of mission profiles. Like all of Metal Shark's Defiant-class vessels, the 38 Defiant features Metal Shark's signature "Pillarless Glass" for greatly improved pilothouse visibility, compared to conventional pilothouse vessels using smaller, framed windows. Three separate 38 Defiant vessels were used in the filming of this video; all three were built for various military operators. Shown in typical patrol configuration, the vessels feature an air conditioned pilothouse with shock-mitigating seating for six, full electronics suite with FLIR, forward and aft gun mounts (a Dillon Aero M134D minigun is shown) and a cabin with v-berth, basic galley, and enclosed head compartment. The vessels shown here are powered by twin Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel inboards mated to Hamilton water jet propulsion units.
