Metal Plating Workers are Heavily Exposed to Mercury in Nepal, by CEPHED

In Nepal, the metal plating of religious statues is a widely practiced craft. However, mercury is used as the solvent for gold to be plated on each statue and vaporized thereafter. This creates hazardous mercury exposure to artisans, who are directly exposed.

This is the pieces of Glass. This is added to the process just to accelerate the process of mixing of mercury with gold while making the paste.
