I've been a fan since 1979 ... I saw the video for Princess of the Night on MTV and immediately went to the record store and bought the album ... I'm of the opinion they aren't bigger than they are because of the vocals ... this is a band you either love or you don't ... We met then several times on tour during the early eighties and I traded a guitar with Paul backstage in Norman, Oklahoma ... up the irons !!!

@extantia Жыл бұрын
I've really enjoyed this Metal Mythos segment and largely agree with Razorfist on his album commentary, but there's one point where I would disagree and that's regarding the album "Metalhead". From a musician's standpoint, it has some of the best overall production values and guitar tones I've ever heard on a metal album. I would also say there is strong songwriting, lyrical content, great melodies, good energy, and some of the most passionate vocals I've heard from Byf, along with the band's overall performance-- it seems to me that for the most part they took the content of the album seriously, despite the lighter tone they took with the title track. For me the standout song was "Watching You" with its heavy riffs, punchy bass, a killer change at 2:31 minutes, and one helluva fadeout. Also like "Piss Off", "Going In", and "Sea of Changes." "Connquistador"? It's an okay Maidenesque tome, but not one of my favorites. Regarding Razorfist's comparing this Saxon effort to those of younger 'Drop D' bands of the early 90's-- I would say the only difference between those songs I briefly checked out and those on Metalhead would be that the latter had actual changes, great vocals with a rich, textural melodic range, and great melodic guitar playing, with regard to chord progressions and leads.

Thanks for this update. It will tide me over until a brand new Mythos comes out. SABATON PLZZZZ!!!
So happy you are back doing what Rage was born to do
I’d love a remaster of the Stryper Metal mythos, especially since they have 2 albums not covered by the original and a third new one on the way
Hot damn it’s been a while since we got an updated mythos! Any others that might make the cut sometime in the future? Stryper perhaps? Pretty sure they released like two more albums after Fallen.

Indeed, and another new one on the way
I asked for a Stryper mythos remaster when this video launched, but I think the one that really deserves a remaster is Darkthrone.

They rly don’t 😂 a 3 minute video on their first 3 albums would have been enough. The rest was just pointless
Saw Saxon last year, 2022, which made it almost 40 years to the month that I had last seen them, my first metal album, wheels of steel, yep felt just as Lars described. BTW, worth watching for your JFK views. LOL.
Always a pleasure watching your work Razor. Hope there's more mythos in the future. GodFUCKINGspeed!
Great band! Unleash the Beast is one of my favorite albums of the 90’s
Saxon were the first Metal band I saw live, 1992 with my father in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales UK. I was 14.
i never in million years thought i would hear razor utter barnsley my home county and town but to pronounce it correctly haha
When my parents came home from England they brought back Saxons live album The eagle has landed. Way to go Mom
Hell yeah, awesome to see an updated Metal Mythos on Saxon!
Carpe Diem is awesome. The title track has a killer riff. It's got a song called Age of Steam that is about the invention of trains, and a song called Supernova that's unironically about an actual supernova. How cool is that!
Commentaries by Razorfist are as exciting as a Battle Tech lore video by Tex. Can't change my mind.
Really getting into Saxon, currently my soundtrack for this summer, after your turned me on to Yngwie last year. Thanks Razorfist !
Such quality work as usual Razorfist. Bravo 👏
My first band discovery on the journey through rock and metal. Thank you for always producing high quality content, you are a Legend x
The remastered "top heavy Tiffa" line still slays.
Saxon clearly has some of the most badass album covers of all time.
Awesome, can’t wait for Priest remastered, but you might as well wait until the new album next year.
Thanks for name dropping Atomkraft. Hadn't heard of them before. Goddammit, they absolutely fucking kill.
Another Metal Mythos episode is way overdue! I hope another one comes out. Been a big fan of the series
GODLIKE!!!! This is the stuff that I worship every single day of my god damn life, good stuff Razor.
Fuck yea. I thought you might go back after Carpe Diem was released and update it. The new album absolutely crushes. It’s amazing.
Sweet update. As someone that only has Strong Arm and The Eagle has Landed, this makes me feel the need to fill out my Saxon collection a bit. I think I'll track down Wheels of Steel and Lionheart first.

Those 2 plus check out Denim And Leather, Forever Free, The Inner Sanctum, Thunderbolt, and Carpe Diem.
Hooray Metal Mythos! Saw Saxon in Eppelheim and I think Nuremberg in the early 1980s, then in Berkeley in 2018 or 19. Biff is always awesome.
I've been looking at getting more into this band! The update will definitely help!

I enjoy these Metal Mythos videos mainly to increase my Metal education. Thanks Razorfist.
Never surrender is my personal anthem
I hope we get a new mythos soon, id love to see candlemass personally
Besides …i saw this episode (before remastering ) few months ago . Love to watch your episodes 🤘🏻
And I saw them back in 89 awesome at st David's hall Cardiff
Thanks for the update Razorfist! Had Carpe Diem vinyl on pre-order and it showed up the week it was released. One of their finest for sure. Saxon ages like a fine wine.

My favourite Saxon albums (as released): Wheels Of Steel Strong Arm Of The Law Denim And Leather Solid Ball Of Rock Forever Free Dogs Of War The Inner Sanctum Battering Ram Thunderbolt Carpe Diem Least favorites: Crusader Destiny Into The Labyrinth
My brother got me into Saxon with Power and the Glory with the opening to Redline. As me and my brother were/are motorheads (cars) and Motorhead, I guess, but hearing that blaring opening through home speakers thrown in the back seat of a 72 Nova, on cassette and a Heath Kit (wonder how many people remember those?) made car amplifier. This is awesome RF, a lot of memories!
3 Best albums by SAXON are exactly those that you present here. NWOBHM is a BAAAAAASE of Metal in general ‼️ HELL Yes!!!
Mythos time! Let's GO!
A fucking fantastic assessment of a decades long career, Razor. I admittedly knew only of Saxon's existence before this immersive dive into their style and glory, warts and all. I commend and thank you for a job well done. 🤘🏼🌟
Just watched this again a year later. Great work, thank you! For some dumb reason, it made me remember your promise of a Manowar Mythos. Well...?
Razor uploads a vid and I click as fast as human possible 😂
Keep em' comin', Razorfist 😎🤘🤘
Found these guys when I was about 5 years old, it's a shame I grew up in a Christian household and wasn't able to get really into metal for years

This is awesome! You should do an updated metal mythos for Stryper! They have a lot of new stuff you might enjoy reviewing!
Oh shit, here it is boys!
We really could use a Running Wild metal mythos. Also a Manilla Road mythos.
An excellent Metal Mythos as always!
Judas Priest,Manowar, and Saxon! The Trinity ⚡💪⚡

I was just going to watch the Carpe diem update but ended up watching the whole thing again because wtf not.
Been enjoying this band immensely since the original mythos! Thanks for all you do man!
thank you razorfist for the great work you've done on one of my all time favourite bands who for some reason never seem to get the credit they deserve. also shout out to your knowledge of metal in general. I'm an old metalhead 55yo and this metal was my life. I despaired in the 90s and just stopped listening to new material, except for some brilliant discs by Dio, Motorhead, and saxon. I'm afraid i lost hope in maiden who just seemed to want to turn every song into fucking war and peace dimensions and to be honest bruce dickinson seemed to have got a bad case of bononucleosis. gods fucking speed razor fist. you my man rock. ever think of doing a mythos on rose tattoo, love that group but I don't know much about them.
I'm loving your raging commentaries. Entertaining and informative. So far, I've watched the ones on Priest, WASP, Death Wish, and now here I am at Saxon.
My band played with Saxon once. They were pretty cool dudes
I was in Verona last Saturday. Just for them. For the Saxons. After their performance some other group named Judas something started to play but I left. I had seen what I was there to see.
Still awaiting that Venom mythos 😎
Good to see another metal mythos video back online. It is the reason why I subscribed to this channel.
Think the first Saxon album my older brother played for me was Crusader. Born in 82 and my older brother is 18 years older then me so it was about 88 I think.
Covid also had its benefits - Biff had time to do the side project Heavy Water with his son, which has some nice cuts on it.
Thanks Mr. Fist !!!!! The more i dig into saxons discography the more i like most of it !!!!!!!!
One of the best bands!
Your mention of Manowar reminded me of just how badly I want to see you do a Metal Mythos on them.
Thanks for the update Razor. Love me some Saxon.
Saxon is a great band !!!
Hail the Mighty Razor Fist! Appreciate the video! Saxon my favorite band! Use to pretend to be Biff back in high school. Can't wait to see them on May 10th in Peekskill, NY!!!!
Crusader has been my favorite Saxon ballad for years... Red Star Falling was another absolute banger.
I check every half year or so to see if you've posted a new Mythos as I LOVE them. Just watched the Saxon one which I missed somehow. Wow! I am now surfing the net looking to score the Killing Ground/Lionheart/the Inner Sanctum trilogy. I had NO idea Saxon put out so many albums and honestly no idea they were so good! They completely went under the radar. Thank you for rectifying this for me Razorfist! Anxiously awaiting your future Mythos installments!
I've only recently found your page, and I 100% agree with the ending comment, SEE THIS BAND LIVE! I saw Black Star Riders and Saxon open for Priest on the '18 Firepower tour, and HOLY SHIT did Saxon sound absolutely fantastic live. Instantly got me to check out their early material. Well done on this retrospective.
Saxon is great band.
"Wimpy shite," I love that lol
I love these metal uploads!!! 🤘🖤🤘
Hoo boy, I had already declared 9 months ago that Saxon was the greatest classic heavy metal band to ever exist.
Saxon is the only fking band that doesn’t have a bad album. And they’re sounding better than ever before

Nice one dude; high octane, entertaining and informative as always \m/
Thanks for introducing or giving me a reintroduction to a band i kind of skipped on those nwobhm comps. I didnt liken them to tigers of puntang but i never got it. Now at age 50 i think i found my new obsesion. Thank you for this series. I have watched some of these episodes 100 times. Thanks Razor. Live free. Die Proud. God Bless.
Saw Saxon at Wacken 2016, great show! Razor, are you going to add Stypers new records to their Mythos? Their new single absolutely slays
When the fire in the sky .loved Saxon.
Even though Metalhead isn’t a great record overall, it still has possibly my favorite Saxon song on it, All Guns Blazing. Blazing tune
Nice one, thank you mate
Thanks for the introduction to Saxon!!!
