Hello. You seem to like Gavin Harrison on the drums. No wonder, he is amazing. If you are interested, search (from KZreads, naturally) for "Gavin Harrison Anesthetize" and you'll find a video where he performs that middle part of the song (with that epicness that starts around 16:19 on your vid) at Modern Drummer fesival years back. So good.

You have officially been anesthetized Nic! Welcome to the world and the genius of Steven Wilson - both with his band Porcupine Tree but I would also encourage you to check out his solo work. If you want more live PT - check out their brand new album Closure/Continuation LIVE which only came out last year. 3 tracks you can find on KZread are: Harradan, Fear of a Blank Planet and I Drive the Hearse. Listen and react to all 3! All totally different and all equally gobsmacking for different reasons. I look forward to watching and listening to your reactions!

Funny you mentioned the heftiest part being 'orgasmic' in some way. To me the word 'eargasm' doesn't even fit for tracks and performances like these. I'd rather consider 'wholegasmic' or 'healgasmic'. I feel better after listening to this music. Devin Townsend and The Gathering (with Anneke) have the same effect on me, especially live.

Music of PT can somehow be divided into several stages of the transformation of their sound. Each of these stages is an extraordinary musical adventure. Starting with their oldest psychedelic rock albums, going through their unique progressive, but still subdued sound, ending with their dark, sometimes depressing version. This song can be classified as their darker side. Each of these versions is something special for the listener. I love all of their work. Each of their next albums is very different from the previous one. I highly recommend you listen to their other albums if you haven't already. It's a truly great musical experience.

I was introduced to Porcupine Tree in 2004 ,by my guitar and music gear distributor ,and it was the same one you are speaking of ..."In Absentia"and the song "TRAINS". I was completely taken in by the album ,and when I had played it out ,I went shopping , bc I wanted more. I bought their DVD , "ARRIVING SOMEWHERE,NOT HERE",and became a 20 year huge fan. I play guitar in a heavy guitar driven band ,and Steven Wilsons guitar choice is by PAUL REED SMITH ,and I have about 12 different models ,which afford me a multitude of tonal landscapes. The big blue head album ,"FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET"is where you can find this song, was my next PT purchase. Steven is quite a brilliant songwriter who has a number of side projects ,one of particular interest for you to hear is "BLACKFIELD" with Tim Bowness ,the album IV, BLACKFIELD ,and the songs "PAIN",and "BLACKFIELD"are pure Wilson genius. Gavin Harrison ,the drummer here spent 20 plus years with PT,opting out 2-3 years ago to join "PINEAPPLE THIEF"which a ton of PT fans now are Pineapple Thief fans as well. Some other notable PT releases are "LIGHTBULB SUN", "THE INCIDENT" ,"FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET", and "DEADWING". DVDs ... "ARRIVING SOMEWHERE,NOT HERE",and "ANESTHETIZE". KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!

"Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" OR "Hatesong"... BUT.. React to the live versions PLEASE. They are SO GOOD live. it is a crime not to... Keep on Rocking young sir.

A few videos to check out ,that feature both Steven, and Gavin are "HATESONG" (LIVE),and "The Sound Of Muzak" (live). On Hatesong ,Gavin actually passes out over his kit at the end of the song.He is absolutely brilliant ,and in my humble opinion there are few master class rock drummers of Gavins reputation. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) Neil Peart (RUSH) Danny Carey. ( TOOL) Marco Minneman (solo ,currently) Mike Mangini. (MANGIÑI,DREAM THEATER) Augustus Priester (many bands) Derek Roddy. (many)

Good reaction. Gavin Harrison in my opinion is probably one of the best drummers on the planet, Rolling stone rated him the third best drummer in the last 25 years. As well as Porcupine Tree check out more Gavin Harrison with a band called the Pineapple Thief, white mist is a good song to try by them.

I assume you've already heard all of the relevent Opeth catalogue. It's relevant because Steve Wilson produced several of Opeth's albums during this period, and stole from Mikael's style.
