if you ask me cynic is the single most important and underrated band of the last few decades for modern metal music, so much music was inspired by them.

I remember when focus dropped. It has been a huge influence in my playing style. Same with athiest and thought patterns. Chuck was taken away from us too soon, as with Roger Patterson from atheist.

All fantastic bands, really glad to see them featured here on the channel. Death, Atheist and Cynic are absolute staples of early Progressive Death Metal. The final 4 Death albums especially are amazing and you need to hear them at some point! I’ve actually only been getting into King Diamond’s solo stuff pretty recently but I love everything I’ve heard from him so far (the first 5 albums). And of course Mercyful Fate is great too! Thanks Nick 🤘🤘

Great video, thanks Nick! Two things about the Death song: 1) The song's from 1993, not 2011, and 2) The solo at 19:05 is by Andy LaRocque (of King Diamond), and Chuck takes over at 19:54 cheers!

Death (in my opinion) is the best band of the genre in history. It's a pleasure that you're singing again, because you're going to notice the virtuosity, the passion and the variety of sounds they had on each album. Chuck Schuldiner was a totally unusual guitarist and songwriter and a wonderful human being. It would be great if you gave the band Kreator a listen, if you don't know them. And from Death I would recommend Flattening Of Emotion and Spirit Crusher.

Immolation is one of my favourite bands ever but would they have existed without Death? Not sure… I think objectively Death were the best in terms of innovation, influence, consistent quality, etc. and I think I like them a bit more than Immolation but I’m glad I don’t have to choose! I second the Kreator suggestion, maybe a German Thrash marathon is in order!

Thanks again Nick! All of the three albums (Individual Thought Patterns, Focus and Elements) actually came in the same year (1993). So I guess 2011 is when the remixed version came out. I originally meant this to be a collection of progressive death metal from that era and maybe I should've suggested Pestilence as the fourth band. But as Andy LaRocque was the lead guitarist on this particular Death album and he's one of my favorite lead guitarists of all time I wanted to include something from his main band (King Diamond). And that short melodic passage (39:07) is probably my favourite part in any guitar solo ever, so that’s why I chose this one. Most people think that the previous Atheist album Unquestionable Presence is better but I've always loved Elements because it combined metal with latin rhythms and that's still quite unique I think. Something must have gone horribly wrong with the mastering of the album and it sounds like the worst example of "loudness war" even if that wasn't even a thing in 1993. But the music is so good that I learned to accept the distortion.

Really glad somebody requested this stuff! Love all 4 bands but especially Death. I think Nick would really love all of their last 4 albums. I think Elements is great too and a bit underrated compared to the first 2 albums. I also like their comeback, Jupiter. That one gets a lot of hate but I don’t really understand why. Thanks for suggesting this stuff! 🤘🤘

Thank you VERY much for your contributions Petri, you'll see how much I GUSHED about it in my (HUGE) comment(ary) - so I "apologize" in advance 🙃. Yes, I too prefer "Unquestionable Presence" (as you may read) but I came to enjoy "Elements" and that Latin quality it had, and it was much more "Fusion" than mathematical, like the 1st and definitely the 2nd album. I hope you like the "Playlist" I added. The King Diamond track was ASTOUNDING. I have only dabbled on tracks from each album, including Mercyful Fate, I don't know why, but that will be remedied in months to come (I'll reveal a Playlist for Halloween once again in October that I include tracks from both bands🎃). I've known of BOTH since they debuted, and for whatever reason I didn't get into the music, but started appreciating it more about 10 years ago. - Thanks again Petri! And here are some Playlists you may enjOy . . . *Melodious Progulus* VI: kzread.info/head/PL2DU3TBNutEe1lLsoKvpuwBhnFVbQYWO4 IX: kzread.info/head/PL_zmdsN11qLE_nRVvJPl4Ib3cJEBn4tbu (previous and next "parts" are linked in the description of each playlist) \m/

Hey from New Mexico. Brilliant albums. The Death and Cynic are two of the greatest metal albums ever made. "Trapped in a Corner" is a highlight, impossible not to air guitar to that ridiculous solo. Andy LaRocque is an unsung guitar legend with perhaps the greatest vibrato ever. So much greatness to behold. I spent my high school years with Human, ITP, Symbolic and Focus on constant repeat.🍻

BTW Nicholas . . . The "mushy" sound of the Yt tracks is VERY familiar to me (because I have low band width...). What you have to remember before loading it up/setting up a track for a reaction, is having the Sound "Quality" at 480 or higher (click on the "Gear" icon under each video window and see: Quality). You'll notice the sound quality gets MUCH better right away, and in most cases the thumbnail image (cover art) will become "clearer" as well :D. - Just an FYI 🎧.
