This was supposed to be a win-win. We get a game that hasn’t been touched since the HD collection and Konami gets to cash in on its player base but the only thing here is the latter 🤷🏻‍♀️

How sad that the remasters/releases of 2 of my favourite franchises from my teenage years in GTA and MGS both have been butchered in the past few years

There was a pc port for the original mgs1 which we’ve been able to play at 1080p with a simple mod for like a decade at this point. This isn’t low effort, it’s NO effort

Tried the new 4K mod and it works great. There’s a file to fix it on Steam Deck which also works great. PC version is now fixed thanks to mods.

@@kyleday5026RPCS3 (PS3) makes it easy to upscale graphics and is pretty user friendly though Xenia (360) could run better depending on your gpu but it’s harder to set up the resolution

Forgot to mention, the overblown peaking, compressed audio present in all 3 games predominantly MGS 2 & 3, those soundtracks are butchered in MGS 2 & 3

These games have been ported & emulated SO many ways throughout the years. How do they not have this down pat by now..?

The thing is you'd think they could do all these changes being mentioned easily in an update…but will they?

That would take a lot more effort than ppl think.specially when the logic in The older games games is differently synchronized with CPU GPU etc so that would actually take much longer to make like a remaster or remake

Excellent review. Thumbs up. A bit of a disappointment regarding the saturation levels and textures.

Yeah for sure they should have had some filter options. Not some cheap scanline filters but some great dot style pixel shader filters would have helped make Metal Gear Solid particularly much better. Heck, even someone in Sony realized this and started putting the option available on different PS1 and PS2 games you can buy on the store, which run in emulators. Actually if Sony just sold these games separate in their store via their own emulation, it would have probably gotten better treatment.

If you are on PC, take 5 mins to emulate these games. They will look MUCH better, and you will avoid giving money to Konami for being lazy af.

Just canceled my preorder. I'd love a way to play these games on modern systems but it seems like dusting off my old systems is still the best option. I'm also not a fan of Konami anymore considering their business model. Maybe a bit harsh but they had a chance to nail this and flubbed.

Why hasn’t anyone mentioned the audio popping on msg1? it’s through the game.

The HD Collection from XBOX 360 runs in XBOX ONE and Series consoles with an extra benefit: if you happen to own an XBOX ONE X or a Series X you can play the game in full 4K at constant 60fps thanks to the Boost program from Microsoft, where some backwards compatible games are enhanced even though they don't have aon official patch from the developers. MGS HD Collection is included in that program so you can play the best version possible with that collection on a Series X or an XBOX ONE X.

They increased the native resolution to 4K? That’s pretty sweet, but they were delisted right? At least with this, Xbox gamers can have MGS1 for $20 separately, so that void is finally filled. The NES games and bonus content that come with the full $60 bundle are entirely unnecessary.

the sad thing is, people will support this with their money regardless and these greedy companies know it. if people had a little more restraint/intelligence and dont buy such blatantly obvious cash grabs they would have to do a better job to earn peoples money. sadly this probably will never happy, its blind consumerism

Bro. The terms of use on this thing is crazy. Read it when you get a chance. I'm sure it was a carry over from an online game's terms of use. Some of its terms are unenforceable.

Excellent review. Hopefully Konami will patch these issues. MGS 2 and 3 are a disaster in their current state.

Konami never fails on delivering the bare minimum

Imagine showing such disrespect to such a fantastic franchise you were fortunate enough to own. Sell it to Sony so we can get some actual quality remasters/remakes.

The master collection is pretty disappointing in my personal opinion when it comes to performance and resolution quality. It's great that people are able to play these games on PC and modern systems but this master collection volume 1 could have been way better. I'm pretty worried about the mgs 3 delta remake as it seems Konami doesn't care about quality.

My ps3 saga collection still works just fine. That ever takes a crap, then the ps5 collection might be worth it

My guess is the way they were designed the ps3/360's bandwidth couldn't do 1080p with their memory bandwidth. PS2 was a monster when compared to the resolution it was targeting. The developers of gran turismo said they actually had to cut the heat haze effects from the ps2 games because they couldnt be done at a higher resolution without causing issues on ps3.

Sure Konami could implement these changes however... Is it worth their time since they're far more interested in the Pachinko machine of MGS3?

The 360 and ps3 versions have nice contrast and colour and textures running on 1080 p. The remasters on the series x colour and detail is faded out

They should have got bluepoint to do the master collection, but instead Konami decided to do it cheaply and now everyone loses

Well if they did that it would have to be ps5 only as bluepoint is owned by Sony now. Likely they wanted to sell these on Xbox and switch as well

The original games are fairly linear, it would completely change them and they would no longer be the classics we all know and love.

John Rambo + James Bond like Villains + Comic book super powers + a sprinkle of anime + Mecha = Metal Gear.

I'm playing thought MGS3 right now and the aid down sight feature is terrible. Can't ADS withough having to commit to a shot. Also cant pull our an AK or M-16 without it automatically firing in ADS mode.

Please have MGS2 run at 60 fps.
