I personally think Liquid probably knew everything that Miller knew about the Les Enfants Terribles project by this point in the timeline, simply because he gave a full info dump to Snake later on, and he seemed to be satisfied with knowing all the details, and he had already killed off Miller at this point, so one would think that if he didn't know some details, he would have squeezed them out of Miller before killing him. Also funny to note that Miller is also half Japanese himself, which Liquid would probably know, because he was going by "Kazuhira" in the 80's when Liquid was living on Mother Base with Miller. So if Liquid was really trying to do a full-on Kaz impression, he should have said "we three probably share many of the same ancestors."

​@Lapran3 from what we know about Snake in MGSV's cassette tapes, he pretty much lived his life the way the Patriots intended for him. In MGS1, he says he was raised by many different people. It probably came up at least once at some point during his childhood. Snake also says Big Boss told him that he was his father, which we don't actually see in the MSX titles, so it presumably happened off screen. I'd wager Big Boss or Venom actually might have told him his heritage and just conveniently left out the part about Eva.

​@@mercury2157well his japanese parentage is a retcon within a retcon. First Snake is not related to Big Boss. Then he finds out he is not just a he son of Big Boss, but instead a clone. Then they throw in the part about Snake being half japanese. Then they introduce Eva and have her be Snakes surrogate mom. And finally in MGS4, they have to explain together a reason why a white woman and a white man, gave birth to a half-japanese boy.

I remember reading a short _Metal Gear Solid_ fanfic from FanFiction-Dot-Net many years ago called "Snakeskin," which was about Liquid Snake going to Master Miller's home to delete him, assume his identity, and take his Codec and the top-secret documents on the Shadow Moses incident. Basically, the real Miller tested Liquid by bringing up certain incidents that the real Solid Snake witnessed in Zanzibar Land, in which Liquid failed. Unfortunately, the real Miller got overpowered and deleted by Liquid, setting up the canonical events of the game.

As a kid back in 00’s, when I’ve played mgs first, I was so thrilled about it when I finally realised the identity in voice and etc. in control room I was pretty sure Miller played on foxhound side, but when I found out it’s literally Liquid, I was covered with goosebumps. Damn, goat times

The reality turning out to be so much more simple was kind of funny to me but i do think its better than simple defection. The disguise is so stupid its brilliant. The voice acting is great though. Was so sad they reduced the codec for 4 and beyond. It was a great way to find out additional plot details. The thing that bugged me was the codec/radio being used too much for story in MGS2 and 3. I feel like they could have gotten rid of that while still preserving a codec feature. At least MGS4 kinda had it, just with a much smaller cast.

I always imagined what if MGSV had a codec. Being able to contact Ocelot, Kaz, the pilot and Code Talker could've really opened the lore of that game instead of the notes you have to read. Or imagine trying to contact Quiet and it's just awkward silence.

@@Dark_Ronius That's why to this date I still like MGS1 the best, as almost all of its characters have a role in the story and a background story of their own to tell, especially the bosses (and hey even Decoy Octopus has a role). By the time of MGS3, the Cobras are reduced to mostly a gaming boss with little impact to the story (like The Pain, The Fear and The End could almost be shuffled and replaced by someone else entirely), but at least we still have a codec team to speak to. By MGS4, the bosses (except for Vamp maybe) are really just bosses in the way, and if we could also have codecs with Naomi, Meryl, Sunny, Mei Ling and Drebin (not just the post-boss codecs but more like Natashia in MGS1), that would have made the experience a lot better.

@@gibleyman I think from MGSPW onwards, they try to tell the story either by tapes or post-mission conversations. Those aren't bad but I would prefer that they add in-mission calls as well, at least for the main ops, if not the side ops. Apparently they decided that the mission flow should take precedence rather than pausing the game for a call. The result of course is that we press a button for Kaz or Ocelot to give one-way advices, which are certainly nowhere near how we were walking into the depths of Shadow Mosses' underground base while everyone on our team gradually tell or show that they are betraying or deceiving us one way or another, and that not even the DARPA Chief is a fake, he even died for some unknown reasons......

Man Master Miller somehow went offline during the fight against Liquid with his Hind, his Alaska signal are messed up huh.

One thing I thought was strange was at the beginning of the game, Liquid takes off in the Hind to swat down a couple planes, but literally moments after he takes off, he is calling Snake with his sunglasses while Snake is in the vent going into building 1. Like he had to be calling him while still piloting the Hind and yet it makes it seem like he is just calling from Miller's home

I borrowed MGS from a friend and he help me through some spots. I still remember asking why Liquid and Miller were the same voice actor. He replied "AHHHH how you figure it out have you spoke to anyone else about the game? Me "No what are you talking about?"

there is another outing by Liquid when Ocelot plants the bomb in Snake's belongings, you call Miller about the bomb and he's like "what a despicable act, he should never ... ! anyways.." and then hangs up a little after that

As far as I'm aware, the idea that Snake is "part-Japanese" doesn't make any sense. If the DNA from the egg cell does have an effect on the outcome, then he's not exactly a clone is he? He's just a GM child

Nice upload. I'm just going by memory here, but in Twin Snakes I think they slightly modified this conversation somehow, but I can't recall exactly how. Master I think actually says something to Snake instead of being silent, or he shows a devious smile or something. I'm not sure, but I suggest someone check it out. I get this mixed up with the other Codec call where Master gets REALLY excited that Snake has the 3rd PAL key, and Snake notices it right away and seems suspicious. I think they slightly modified that in Twin Snakes as well.

I have a lot more time for it after learning the director originally wanted to do a remake more true to the original, but Kojima specifically rejected this because he didn't see the point in just remaking the same thing again. Like whatever decision was made was a very conscious decision not to retread old water, which I kinda respect.

My favorite David Hayter voice has been Metal Gear Solid on PS1 it's not all gravel sounding like a heavy smoker I also liked his voice work in Yakuza like a dragon and blood stain was good to I think it's the voice director who wanted it to be gravel sounding in the later MGS games

Another example would be Decoy Octopus telling Snake that Mantis got „his“ code by reading his mind. He did not know Anderson and Baker received brain implants to prevent psychic manipulation.

Yeah it's sometime after this boss fight so he could have heard Raven tell Snake that the DARPA Chief was Decoy Octopus because you know how some characters know things that your character is doing like hiding in the cardboard box

The only way Liquid would know that is if he read Master Miller's paperwork he had on Solid Snake

Considering that they are brothers, he could just look into his own heritage, and figure it out and go from there. Their off duty names are David (solid snake) and Eli (liquid snake) but the last name is a mystery to me at any rate. I'm just going to call them kojima babies.lol

It's more ridiculous that Snake didn't think Kaz wouldn't have known about his ethnic makeup, since he raised him 🤔

It's funny how this is forshadowing of Miller's true identity in this game, but at the same time, the real Miller is a former high-ranking PMC official and an aid working with the U.S. government at the highest level; why would he NOT know something as simple as Snake's heritage? It would be highly suspect someone like the DARPA chief was rattling off lines like that but the real Miller already knows who Solid Snake is, his history with Metal gears, and is vaguely aware of his conception. He could easily have personal records on Snake which would outline this detail. That's like being surprised that your middle school homeroom teacher knows your mother wears glasses when they've more than likely seen her picking you up from school everyday. Is it weird they would bring it up in conversation out of nowhere? Yeah, but its hardly akin someone knowing your personal journal entries verbatim or something.

I like the part that he makes his big reveal later by removing his sunglasses with the line. "Like the Sunglasses Snake?" I thought Codec works by stimulating the muscles in your ear....in other words audio only. How can Snake see his sunglasses?

The name comes from the rations introduced in WW2; Type C was an individual package of canned food. They were replaced in the 1960s, but the name stuck around long after that. The modern ration system has a "cold weather" version which doesn't freeze, but it requires preparartion and a decent chunk of water because everything is freeze-dried.

Good question maybe I haven't ever heard of a scraped Decoy Octopus boss fight

This twist was lost on me during my first playthrough since i almost never called Miller unless it was a mandatory call.

If you really pay attention to snakes facial expressions talking to Miller and if you noticed he started getting aggravated at how Miller was just off. Play throughout the game the more and more messing up and acting weird snake kept getting aggravated just look at his his emotions in the code that window every time he talked to Miller

Yep his face expression was like "What the hell Miller this is not like you."

It's actually a bigger question as to how Snake would know that. At this point he didn't know the egg donor was a Japanese woman. He didn't even know he was a clone.

Never saw this coming and actually listening to Miller he kinda already sounds like Liquid. Didn't pick any of that up.

Well MGS 5 phantom pain does drop a big hint that it was Ocelot they kept true to there words all those years ago

I'm wondering how he knew too, the details of Snake's early life haven't been revealed so it's possible that he was half-truthfully told his mother was Japanese by his handlers in the military and whatever government orphanages kept him between early childhood and his joining the army (probably before 18), since they couldn't or didn't tell him that EVA was his birth mother since she was an alive agent out there somewhere.

Clint Eastwood is Japanese?

Actually, the better question is: How does Snake know he's half-Japanese? Pretty sure that wasn't revealed until Vulcan Raven said "Blood from the East flows through your veins." and then MGS4 had the egg donor be a Japanese woman.

Yup, idk how Almost everyone in the comments is oblivious to this. Technically, snake just says he didn't tell him he was though. So maybe snake is like, why do you think I'm Japanese? And liquid is like, shit I forgot he didn't know that yet.

I like Kodak calls in the first second and especially third game. Unfortunately they dropped the ball extremely hard in the fourth game. I think you only talk to three different numbers throughout the entire game. The colonel, the save girl and Raiden only during one section. Which made having the ability to even choose frequencies pointless

I know right. They made the codec so pointless. You barely talk to the other characters and the only one you can consistently talk on the codec is otacon.

They had to retcon that in MGS3 by making Eva, her mother, asian basically. Its just most likely Kojima hadnt thought that deep into it, same thing with Doctor Clark being refered as male in this game but later in MGS3 we know Clark is Paramedic and she is a woman.

Also if you look in the “unofficial” official biography for Big Boss they mention him being a third generation Japanese American

fertilised a Japanese womans egg, with Big Boss sperm, inside Evas Uterus. Thats why solid and liquid not a perfect clone.
