Metal Detecting with The Whites MXT

Ойын-сауық

Just a basic go through on using the MXT. I've had it for a number of years and now, I am using it pretty much every weekend or when the weather is not raining or snowing. Metal Detecting is lots of fun & you never go home empty handed :)

I bought an older MXT to look for large pieces of gold deep and back up a GM 24K and the older whites goldmaster e series and to look for older silver coins along with the DFX. I put the 300 mm coil on the MXT from the DFX 300 and it turned the MXT into a beast on both deep and shallow targets in the back yard. I showed the MXT 300 to a newbi... along with a new Fisher F-19 and he gravitated to the MXT even though I tried to talk up the F-19 since it was brand new and since it is a 19 kHz proven gold finder. Once I have the ground balanced I set it in lock and run it and then re-balance every so often. If I am looking for a spot to set up a drywasher, then I l just leave it in tracking mode. When and where the MXT is gona blow up in hotter ground in places like Colorado... I don't know, but I can swap to the DD's and break out the TDI SL when the ground gets to hot. The frequency is on the low end for a gold machine unless the gold is large then it's a perfect match. The discrimination dial is used over targets to help guess what they might be by turning the dial up and down over the target... the problem being we risk passing over a digable target if we aren't careful... and if we don't try to discriminate and just crazy dig everything... we end up wasting alot of search time digging up junk targets.

Fellow I talked to said the XLT is a great machine for all types of coin/jewelry/relic hunting. He said he even dropped his in fresh water twice and just dried it out a while and it went right back to working good. One of the best machines White's ever made was the EAGLE 2 SL. DFX is a good one also. MXT is good machine--Not sure if it is better than a XLT? My cousin does great with his MINELAB SE PRO--Those Explorer machines are great at coin hunting--weed out trash well also--really well!

Hello Reed! I love using my old 'lunchbox' Apollo Whites mineral metal detector with it's white-color 4B 8" coil. It's not deep (maybe 7" +/-) but I love the transmit/receive sound of these old detectors. It sounds like the old single-engine planes when it goes over a target. NO discrimination but it will null out nails and other small rusty pieces of iron. If it's a solid target, it will give a nice solid, definite sound. AND I like also, the fact that these old T/Rs were non-motion. Makes pinpointing effortless with no need for a pinpoint mode whatsoever. It's already part of the search mode. Take care and maybe I'll meet you out there someday. Greg.

The MXT was my very first "real" detector years ago. I moved into a DFX which was the detector that taught me all the basics. Been using Minelabs now for years, mainly the Explorers, Sovereigns and now I have a CTX 3030 on the way. Whatever you swing best of luck to everyone!

AgileMjolnir.... Larry at Big Valley just informed me that you ordered the CTX 3030 in spite of the fact you have an E-Trac.... the 3030 is water resistant like the Garrett AT Pro/Gold but performance wise, its nothing but an E-Trac with Lipstick.... this video is not about the NON-American Minelabs..... its about one the overall BEST VLF Detector on the market. Greg at www.transbaymetaldetectors.com Call me sometime, I'd love to find out where you ordered your 3030 from.

From what I've seen it looks like a good unit. Rotapan has been around for years but I have never seen the Reaper itself in action. I will add it to the list as I thought about this last year. It looks like a very good product for final classification though I couldn't come up with the cost on it for comparison to say a UHF table which goes for around $5000 last time we looked at them. It would be good to compare it to a Gold Screw probably but I will need to compare cost as well :)

I bought a new MXT several years back and got the urge to trade it for a cz 6(because I was familiar with cz5 I used to own)bad mistake---the MXT was a better machine in trash and on the beach it found the crap out of change folks lost--wish I'd kept it. I've owned over 30 detectors over the years and write articles for LOST TREASURE magazine from time to time. Detecting is a very good hobby. Been at it 29 years on and off and still love it.

MXT's are great,...... whites sold DVD's that showed you how to use their detectors. They had specialty coils. Many times I found stuff 57 inches deep. It even showed you where to dig black sand,.... I don't think any other detector does that,......it tracks the GND.

The Goldmaster e series gives both a number for ground type and also has a number for ground strength. For me this is a must have feature for making detector and coil selection choices and finding black sand ahead of setting up a drywasher. A large magnet on a stick also does a good job for locating black sand and black sand accumulations. The Deus II has the same feature (giving both numbers), the Gold Bug Pro tracks the ground and gives mineral strength in a series of bars on a graph. Halving both bars and a number would be better.

Good vid however, the MXT WILL and DOES find gold. There are a few vids on YT that demonstrates this, Try these proven settings when hingting nuggets: Relic Mode: disc 2, faint threshold tone, trigger forward and sensitivity anywhere from pre-set to as high as 3 depending on soil. OR "Put the MXT in Relic Mode and set the disc control at 1.5 - 2. Crank the Gain, and run in Ground TRAC mode for a minute, then switch to Lock ..my two cents

I just sold a WHITE'S 6000 SL PRO for a cousin and I thought it was hard to GB and use right---he had given it to me and I GAVE IT BACK. then I was allowed to sell it and keep half the profit. So I did. I liked the MXT a lot better--should have kept the MXT I traded for cz6 a few years ago. MXT is way easier to use than the earlier models of White's like SL PRO and the earlier 6000 D Series 2 (I owned one of those too) MXT is good at dry sand beach hunting for coins/jewelry--real good.

He said get a gold unit for gold,.. then he's telling you how to use it prospecting? It is a gold machine,.. it is a coin and jewelry machine and it is a relic machine. I find shit 58 inch's deep,..... the length of the shovel. Read the manual,... its the perfect partner for your gold pan or sluice,.. Because the MXT tells you where black sand is with the GND= numbers. When you find the black sand you find the gold. And it finds little tint pieces of buckshot too.
