Metal Detecting UK | Using The Forager 2.0 Program

In this episode join me out in the field as we use the Forager program on a new pasture permission. Mr Tweed ( that's right, hes alive!) has kindly invited me onto one of his permissions where we go in search of long lost history and see what's beneath the ground.
I will try and demonstrate to you what the program is capable and we can listen to the sounds of some of the targets together to determine what the machine is doing and if we should dig certain types of signals.
So click play and come along and join me foe the day while we soak up the sights and sounds of the beautiful English countryside as we search for treasures lost to time under the ground.
Want to support what I do and help create future videos? Everyone that can donate will get a special mention in my next video to say thank you but please do remember - its not expected however it is very welcome.

Excellent video. Anybody can dig a nice clean signal. Understanding those questionable signals is what will make someone a skilled detectorist. I am sure that you taking the time and explaining the nuances of the tonal responses was very helpful to many detectorists. Thanks!

a matrix seal would probably give the same signal as the piece of scrap lead , always worth checking mate , im out on a dig tomorrow and giving your program a go as for a year i have always used the general program with some little tweaks . top content as usual , i have hours and hours of footage detecting but absolutely hate my voice on my videos so ive never posted any up , im happy watching everyone elses . all the best

Absolutely agree with this 100%. I have to be pretty sure it’s not going to be something good before I choose not to dig it and even then I always doubt myself. Obviously in an ideal situation you’d dig everything but I like to give myself a standing chance. Good luck with the program, please let me know how you get on with it 👍👍

Update, went out again Sunday with my local club. Pasture this time and the D2 was very quite so I lowered the reactivity down to 1 and upped the sensertivity to 98, the D2 was still stable, changed back once I hit iorn rich areas! Love the Forager program, my go to :)

Nice one. I've used your program a few times now on a busy site. Found loads but do get a lot of falsing due to ground conditions. Must try tweaking it next time out to see if I can calm it down

  • @OMA_MetalDetecting

If you get falsing from iron try this… make sure your freq max is on either 14khz or 24khz. Never use it on 40khz. Also drop the audio response down by a couple. This will mean the deeper targets won’t be as loud but it will minimise falsing. You could put silencer on 3 aswell but only do all this if your site is full of iron as otherwise you will loose allot of depth 👍👍

Michael, a great video I’m interested in the Forager program when I can get back out again when the shoulder heals up. I’m all about hunting by sound it drives some of my hunting partners crazy. They want the machine to say good target dig me up. In away it is advising you what to do you just need to listen. I had a Compass detector about 25 years ago that had amazing sound. I found more silver with that detector. But the Deus is an amazing detector too. Thanks for taking the time to show us the program… John

Great advice John! Always go by the sound first. I have recently started putting my remote on the belt clip and only checking when the sound doesn’t sound right. It takes time but once you know the machine well it almost speaks to you at each target. 5 tones for me is a game changer though especially with PWM. Thanks as always for your comments. Good luck my friend 👍👍

Glad you found it helpful chaps! For me, 5 tones has been a game changer in my day to day detecting. I’ve never been a fan of full tones but 5 tones with PWM is equal to full tones in terms of the information it can give you on each target. Always remember, if in doubt, dig it out! Good luck guys 👍👍

Belting video that Michael, sometimes it's not about the quality of the finds, you learn something every trip, just really glad your experiences with Forager matched mine. I got fooled by big lead, which when I say big lead I mean like 6 inches long, a very old and oxidised lead roofing nail washer got me, but again, it could easily have been a nice bag seal, saw you beside that fence though and thought oh ohhh, I have a fence on my pasture and it's mesh, and barbed across the top and electric (switched off but meant for cows and bulls) and I have to detect 3 feet away from it, drives detector mad! That red soil was amazing, reminded me of Cyprus. Not only learnt from that but reassured my confidence as well as I saw similar to my results. Forager 2 is a superb program. Got a belting signal on what turned out to be the zinc base cap off the end of a 1941 hand grenade, God knows what that was doing in a pasture in Warrington! Keep it up though, belting channel.

Yeah that’s the thing mate, you can discriminate all you want but inevitably something will always catch you out. My moto is - if in doubt, dig it out. No two targets are ever the same. A program can help you but it is never a definitive yes or no 👍👍

Edit, just watched this video again after asking the below questions, I think that you answer most of them, just want to ask what you do if the ground is extremely chatty? Maybe it's just me getting used to it? :) Hi mate, went out today on a group dig, used this your program. I need a bit of advice if you can, the ground was very chatty and the d2 sounded like it was playing out of rhythm drum and base, drove me nuts lol, everyone that had a d2 told me that's normal. Can you advise me what to do in that situation please? I have been on pastures and this land was ploughed and rolled, lots of iron and not many dig able targets. The land sounded like 505 min played in your video! I guess I should trust the program and the D2 to tell me when I hit something good! Sorry for asking all the questions, thanks :) I did get 4 good signals, buttons and a coin! :)

  • @OMA_MetalDetecting

    @OMA_MetalDetecting

Hey buddy! So if the ground is chatty then it’s basically just the ground you are detecting on. You can adjust some of the settings however what that would tell me is that you won’t be looking at any great depth. In instances like this the “fast” program is a good choice. Get the reactivity up to 3 or more and sensitivity down and that will give you your best chance of finding stuff in between the contamination in the ground. Best of luck 👍👍
