Metal detecting a river full of silver and gold (part 1)
went out today with Dirty Dan to a new river site , and we both left today with over 30 silver coins , gold and silver rings .. We found so much that I had to divide this one day hunt into part 1 and 2. This site really produced for the both of us , and we haven't even put a dent into this spot yet !

Best metal detecting I've seen. Awesome finds. I will for sure keep watching. Just awesome video.
A real gentleman when you say "we are going to look at this together" Shows teamwork and respect. The "Native american" bracelet is a great find! Please document it with a historical society or an Antiquities Authority with photos measurements etc. All the intricate designs on it tells a story of the time. Great finds! Thanks for sharing. I think if I had a metal detector I would be gone for days...
The river agrees with you .. Awesome finds and a nice way to stay cool. Love that Bracelet.
Good to see you back again, great find, good luck, hh
A dream haul for anyone. Great work...you could probably work that site for a long time.

I was excited .. a lot of times there will be fishermen in and around the river next to us . and when I make a find, I have to make sure I have my back to them and also stay quiet so we don't bring a lot of attention to us when I film ..
Very nice hunt... Looking forward to the next video. Big Congrats on finding that area!
The Rogers Park National Bank was located on Clark St in Chicago from 1917 till 1931 when it failed in the aftermath of the stock market crash of 1929. Neat token.

Holy crap Tom bucket list coins in fantastic condition! Makes me want to go out and find a river. That must have been a very popular location to still have that many old coins. The Native American bracelet is a great find as well. We found its twin a few years ago. Great video.

There will be more for sure , There was a unique find this weekend that you will be surprised with !! I have 2 videos to produce after this one here, and the second one is the one to watch !
Cool deal!!! I grew up along the DuPage River in Winfield, and I miss those days for sure.. I took up metal detecting last year and try to get out 2, 3 times a week here in North Florida... Good luck.. Happy hunting!!!
This also happened on the old Pontchartrain beach here in New Orleans. It opened around 1939 and had stars like Elvis Presley perform there, and it closed its doors in 1983. Heck, we've had 25 hurricanes in our area. I enjoy this show.
Wow! What a great spot with a lot of great finds.... Looking forward to part 2! GL and HH Van Jr.

a lot of people don't realize that when things were dropped in a river with a gravel/clay bottom it pretty much stays where it was dropped. over time it gets like concrete in some spots and is hard to dig out . Any river with a hard bottom is where the heaver stuff is going to be and that's where the good stuff will be sitting.
Wow that is a hot spot Tom, never have done water detecting but you make it look tempting!

hiluxyota Chicago. Rogers Park is the furthest north neighborhood before Evanston.
Boy you left a treasure trove, It looks like to me that all you really need there is a snorkel, mask and a pin pointer because most the coins you can see above the ground. All Silver coins found in fresh water are black, if they were lost there for any length of time, and since coin prices have sky rocketed take the necessary steps in conserving them back to normal.. I wish I was with you that day, you hit a virgin spot...
@hiluxyota7200
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching , most of the coins were only a few inches under the gravel , and some of them come out all different shades , some nickels came out almost like new while others come out dark red or brown .. once I scoop them out , I fish for them with the pin pointer ,and as soon as I can see it ,that's when I turn on the camera and you see it when I do for the first time ..
Awesome!
good video +1 support and a friend ! Interesting dig !
Very nice how you do your research and rewarded for it. I have a research technique and time saver you may want to consider. Many times my research trail will start with old post cards! For instance go over to Ebay and have a look at the vintage post cards, from a town or an area... Sometimes you can pick up some very helpful info, hints or a starting point for your next hunt. Good luck & I subbed you.

+hiluxyota Wow how cool finding this site through old post card.... btw: you don't have to buy the postcards.... Just search, read and make notes from time to time. A lot of businesses promoted themselves through early 1900s vintage cards... Hotels and saloons particularly, makes it so easy because many have a street address... And if you really get lucky it may now be a vacant lot.
What type of metal detectors are they using I wonder

Thanks , they are out there , sometimes they aren't online , you can sometimes find these spots by looking at your towns , or surrounding areas history in old town history books ..theres one spot that had nothing on the internet , but was in my towns local history that I found in a book at the library.
Somewhat disappointed that all the finds were not on display cleaned up at the end of the video.

Some like to see that while others don't . I try to show each find as well as I can after each dig instead of laying them all out and going over each item a second time because it makes the video even longer ..The coins I have been finding in the rivers I started to leave them as they are found with all the tarnish . thanks for your input ..
What kind of detector do you use?
Wowzers
OMG, you found metal detecting heaven. That place is insane!!! FYI, I started doing shout outs in my videos a little over a month ago ...you were one of my first but I don't think you ever saw it. Mine is a minelab ctx 3030 . its waterproof to a depth of 10 feet , for a beginner , I would look into a garrett at pro. they have the same waterproof depth of 10 feet also , and the price is a lot more affordable.
The Indian bracelet, if it is vintage ( early 20th or late 19th CE,) it's big money, if the artist can be identified, likely, it's bigger money.
