Hi Chigg. Being a retired Armored Cav officer and having an original Spencer Carbine in the collection, I was as excited as you to see the intact Spencer cartridges. First thing that came to my mind, was that a soldier had a hole in his pocket.

Fantastic! I've never seen that cartridge whole before. Now get some hot liquid into you and warm up your core. Thanks for braving the cold to bring us a great hunt.

This is so cool! To think those shells have been down there while the whole world has changed so much around them. Spencer rifles are sweet too.

That "thing" at the end of the video is a concrete anchor. It's lead I assume and will have a threaded wedge inside for a bolt. You definitely deserve your finds, 100% dedication.

nice one Beau that thing you could not id is a concrete anchor dril a hole in the concrete and place anchor in hole then screw a bolt through it as the bolt goes in the bottom of the anchor splays out grabbing the sides of the hole still some very nice finds glenn

Thanks for the advice, I need as much as I can get because I'm relatively young to metal detect. I've been doing it for about 6-7 years now since i was a kid. Nothing really exciting took place in my area, so I mostly relic hunt old homesteads and sod houses. Did some research though and found out the locations of some frontier forts. I might have to check up on that, still not really worth mentioning it, though. Sorry for the long comment and Happy Hunting.

Love watching your vids in the UK

MyGreat , Great Grandfather was in then Cicil War in the Shenandoah Valley Campaigns of 1864. He was a Seargeant in co"G" 3rd N.J. Calvary assigned to US Cavalry, IX Corps , Army of the Potomac. The 3rd N.J. was equipped with Spencer Carbines. Imagine, he could have dropped those bullets! He was wounded in the Shenandoah and mustered out.

I always enjoy your videos. You live in a good area for detecting, and I envy your many relic finds. I'm in Arizona, so my explorations are of a different sort and yield different kinds of results.

That scooter makes short work of exposing anything buried under the silt. I'd think that a person running it and someone following behind picking up the goods would be a pretty efficient way of hunting certain types of areas.

Wow I have never metal dected like this just odds and ends on the beach with a cheep metal dector from radio shack way back in the early 90's. I can see how finding these are a great find. I read a brief history on them and that is a kool find to get, even one in an undisterbed state:) Well Done!!! Great finds I was happy to find a double rim fire Henry casing this summer late 1800s early 1900s would love to find a hole shell .. the water is real stiff up here in Ontario -30c can't waite till next spring HH

Beau they were giving me the same reading with my at pro was quite shocked when I dugem I broke alot tho because it was freezing and I had to use pick and shovel

sometimes if you sweep real slow over a target like that it can give a double signal as the target passes through each individual D on the coil. love all your videos. waiting for the snow to melt up in canada still.

Beau, you might carry with you on your river hunts a large Bondo spreader of the kind body shops use to spread Bondo. You could use that instead of your hand to fan the river bottom. A polyethylene spreader about 4"X8" or so weighs nothing, would be far more efficient, and keep your hands away from anything sharp down there. I wince every time I see you moving your hands across that bottom. Great videos.

Another fun video. Upside to the cold was nice clear water. I've found one Spencer cartridge, and my dad stepped on it and smashed it (accidentally). Now it's in a jar and makes a nice rattle. :(
