Maybe THE best. He and Chris Stapleton are examples of songwriters who really take their craft seriously.

What about ancient history?
Jason Isbell was born to write songs. It was always stunning to me how one band, DBT, could have three unbelievably talented songwriters that actually got along. I'm glad that Jason got his shit together and has such huge success. History will mark him as one of the best.
I tear up a bit every time I hear this song. And cried 3 times at his concert and he didn't even play this. His songs resonate so well with me.
It's very rare to hear "I'm not pausing this by the way" but if any song warrants it, it's this one.
I've listened to this song intently dozens of times, but it still gets me every time. Crying right now. Thank you, Jason.

I cry every time I listen to this song. And I know I’ve listened to it a hundred times.
Have fun exploring Isbell. If you love storytellers like Tupac and Kendrick, then you’ll dig Jason. He can turn a phrase with the best of them as has been mentioned as comparable to heavy hitters in songwriting across different genres. Don’t sleep on his abilities as a guitar player, either. Not everything he does is singer-songwritery acoustic tunes. The dude can rock, too.
you want to hear storytelling? go listen to Yvette. Decoration Day. Alabama Pines. ok I could go on and on. Enjoy the rabbit hole that is Jason Isbell.
My buddy who introduced me to Isbell about 9 years ago ("man you've got to hear this song Elephant") also told me about 3 weeks ago that he has cancer in multiple spots on his body.
The first line grabs you--Andy, you're better than your past. Truly remarkable songwriting.
DBT's during the Isbell days were not only one of the best bands touring at that time but the best story tellers. Go listen to all of "southern rock opera". It'll change your life
Jason is a superb singer, songwriter & guitarist. Well worth checking out more of his stuff.
He's usually classified as alt country, but singer songwriter works too (John Prine is a huge influence on him). He's an independent artist (has his own label) and has won a number of grammys and other awards. His wife also happens to be a great fiddler and songwriter (Amanda Shires). I love his songwriting, he has a lot of gems. I'd recommend checking "If We Were Vampires".

Guy is incredible
My favorite song of the past ten years. I’ve seen him in concert about a dozen times. He and his band put on a great show.
Jason Isbell is a lyrical gangsta. Did this get you to listen to more of his work? I hope so. You won’t regret it.
first time I ever heard isbell, the pearl jam bass players fan club suggested him. 😂 now I love him. his song with the drive by truckers "goddamn lonely love" is awesome too
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this Isbell performance. Unreal.
I lost both my folks to cancer and I just can't make it through this song without choking up.
What exactly is a "Reavtion" ? But seriously, it's good to see people discovering this artist
Love watching people discover this guy. One of the biggest hits outside of the mainstream media.
Speed Trap Town, Cover Me Up, White Mans World, Overseas, Go It Alone. All absolute master classes in song writing. Give them a listen

How to Forget, Goddamned Lonely Love (DBT), Traveling Alone. It Takes a lifetime, Death Wish…
His songwriting is up there with Joni Mitchell's
If you're like me, and you lived through this experience.. This song hurts so much. I find myself in a teary eyed heap every time I hear it. Thanks for the content. Thumbs up.
Jason is the best songwriters of all time in my my opinion. I also agree with the Kendrick/2Pac comparison. There’s so many more great Jason Isabell songs out there if you’re interested one just for example is cover me up which was no pun intended but covered by Morgan Wallan in the last year or too and is one of his biggest hits off of a cover song so if that tells you anything and also “if we were vampires” is absolutely tremendous. But yes,Jason Isbell is just absolutely amazing
This album (Southeastern) is incredible from start to finish. You cannot go wrong with any of it. Try Cover me up or Live Oak. Hell, just listen to it front to back. Then maybe go back and explore the Drive-by Truckers albums he was a part of? And listen to every album after this.
Get hip to him. He’s the real deal.
You have to listen to both Vampires and Cover Me Up by him, not as saddening, but still absolutely amazing! Best songwriter of this generation, in my opinion.
Thanks for the respect you show.
"Fragile Men" by Hayes Carll. The condemnation of toxic masculinity is cathartic.
You have a gorgeous smile btw. Love Isbell. Definitely check out Southeastern which was the 1st album I bought after discovering him (elephant was a turning stone song).
One of my favorite quotes about Isbell is from John Mayer "Jason lives in a place where most songwriters only get to visit". He's also a really excellent guitar player. He and Sadler Vaden (from his band The 400 Unit) are one of the best guitar duos I have heard in forever. Check out the cover they did of Honey Suckle Blue by Drivin' and Cryin' (Sadler played with them for a few years).
Check out the band that inevitably fired “let him go” The Drive By Truckers” Seen them 4 times only once with Isbell! Seen Isbell 3 times solo! Both are so great live!!!
he's one of the best to ever live one day he will get that credit
Tears.
Go listen to Cigarettes and Wine by Isbell. Streetlights next. You can thank me later....
Jason is one of a kind. Not really country though. And he can rock loud with the best of them.
i truly hope you react to more of him. i've been dying for reactors to get on this train for a long ass time now.
Hey whatup, im new to this channel, i have watched some of your videos including the lps of eminem, dr dre and snoop dogg, and if i remember correctly you said something about you wanted some tips for what to react to if we kinda knew your vibe, eminems band d 12 got a couple of good songs, i would recomend you d12 purple pills and another one called my band, also by d12, love your content btw
I think you say it right "we all know that person". Elephant by Jason is such an amazing song. It does choke me up everytime. Lost too many dear friends to cancer.
Jason is an amazing songwriter. This song hit hard hanging with my sister as she dealt with cancer.
I think the elephant in the first verse is the alcoholism they struggle with. The elephant in the second verse is the cancer. Maybe I missed it.

i dig the video but i'm absolutely puzzled on how your audio was seemingly recorded in what looks like a studio but somehow only has audio in the left channel
Hi Brother You'll Love Ward Davis " BLACK CATS AND CROWS" TY
Thug love. I can't stop talking about 2pac to this very day. Yea stay tuned to Jason
Please react to Joss Stone's cover of "I Had A Dream" from her first album. She's one of my favorite musicians - I grew up around the time she blew up (I was born in '96).
Metal biker dude! You gotta react to kendrick lamars new album, another masterpiece
Please check out Lost Dog Street Band. If not on the channel then on your own time
React to Harry Mack you will love it
I know it wasn't intentional but the quick pause, look to the camera and "she has cancer" made me crack up. So glad you found Isbell!
This song breaks my heart every time i hear it. A really great version is on Maron's WTF podcast several years ago.

Also a real early version on Welcome to Nightvale.
Yep but Isbell is not exactly country music. Some of his music yes has that sound, but go listen to never gonna change, his version with the 400 unit, not drive by truckers. he will rock out with his...socks off lololol
Check out drive by truckers
Hello my friend why haven't you reacted to any of Kendrick Lamar's songs from his new album yet.
REACT TO KOTA THE FRIEND!!
If you enjoyed this you should really give his song Vampires a listen.
Love this song, but it always makes me so sad. For something more uplifting try Buy Me A Boat by Chris Janson. Great reaction!! 🙂
Reavtion>>>>??
