Nice, thanks I’ve just bought one and this makes me feel easier at setting it up. Good that it didn’t need calibration from the offset

Any idea on how to adjust the chain on a metabo dh330 planer and thicknesser after cog replacement ?

Hi, Nice Video. How are you getting on with this a year or so later? Any issues with quick wearing blades? Edit, have just seen your later video re. Wood shavings getting under the blade holder and have seen the proposed fix, but that has really put me off parting with my cash for this machine. Have read some forum replies from Matabo stating the machine is intended for pre planed wood and now rough sawn... Madness claim from a manufacturer! I didn't want to spend a fortune on the DeWalt model but think I might be swayed now... Cheers for your content 👍

I’ve got one, they’re great. Watch out for build up of ‘gunk’ in between the blades and the retainers. With good dust extraction it works well, but the buildup of chippings causes ridges on the wood, a bit like if the blade was pitted. I’ve had this happen a lot and thought I’d dinged an old nail or something. The blades were perfect, but the chippings just get wedged in and seem to be the cause. Overall I really like it though.

Thanks for the advice. I will be using on the extraction mostly. Was the build up more of a problem with pine or fir than hardwoods? My old Jet thicknessor was terrible in the extraction as the port was too small.

Hi, I have a few questions. I need advice. I am considering the purchase of Metabo DH 330 (power 1800W). I have a Fieldmann 4020Bi gasoline generator available (max power 2000W, constant power 1600W). Will it run and work with that generator? Thank you very much. Martin

That's a tricky question to answer - basically it depends on the output power type of the generator, and the motor on the planer. The challenge is that plug-in power tools use AC motors, and these generally require a smooth AC power frequency (60hz in US, 50hz in Europe). When measured on a scope the output should look like a pure sine wave -- a nice smooth wave form. Often generators put out modified sine waves, which are more jagged or square shaped. This type of sine wave can damage certain electric motors, and the motors will not run smoothly. Just Google "pure sine wave vs modified sine wave" to see what I'm talking about. Your generator does not specify whether it outputs a pure sine wave. It just say it puts out "a stable electrical output" -- which generally means a constant voltage (but not necessarily a constant AC frequency). Fieldmann says it can power things like computers -- which just need any form of AC, because they turn that AC into DC first before powering anything. In addition, the power requirements of the planer are right up there next to the maximum output of the generator, and in these cases a bit of headroom is helpful. So what you risk is either poor planing results from a motor not running smoothly, damaging the motor, or overloading/burning out the power output on the generator - either of these are very feasible scenarios and on that basis I would not recommend trying.

Do you know what the height of the machine is without the red height adjustment lever poking up at the top? Spec saying 58cm total but wondering if it’s less with it out the way (my workbench only has 52cm height underneath to store it so hoping I can squeeze it in as nowhere else to keep it!!) ta

Technically that's a site thicknesser not a planer but the terminology of manufacturers is getting so woolly these days and it crates havoc when trying to google things.Looks to be better quality than the Triton one. I like these dedicated thicknessers just wish they did a induction motor one that was less loud

Fair point and my mistake, it is a bit like 'coving vs cornice' or 'dado vs chair rail'... They are blooming loud so an induction or even brushless would be a nice improvement.
