Next time you will be able to significantly reduce the cleaning time if, first, at the first stage, the children themselves distribute toys to you into two piles: what they want to leave and what they are ready to let go. According to the principle, we keep for ourselves - we let go. Then you will have to work only with what the children really want to keep for themselves (you will find out what they really play (and you will stop buying useless and uninteresting toys for your children as gifts). To work with a bunch of toys, "leave" and classify only them.

Just some thoughts: Researchers found that when the toddlers were in the room with fewer toys, they were actively engaged for a longer period of time. Because there were less toys to choose from, the children used their creative instincts and explored different ways to use the same toy, further developing their cognitive skills.

I have just one kid so toys are essential and became a necessity during the pandemic. One thing we did though was hiding some toys in other rooms so they weren't available all at once at the same time, he was happier to have them back after one month! They seemed like new toys, even if they were always there 😎

When my daughter was smaller I used to pull out all her toys in order to declutter them. I always ended up nervous and depressed. Since then I do it in small portions. Her toys are in boxes now, she is 10 and she is not interested in toys anymore and the planned for this spring decluttering will be far more easier. I'm planning to declutter box by box and see what shall we donate, what shall we keep and where because we live in 75 sq. m. apartment.

I deal with depression, anxiety, (undiagnosed) adhd. I have a 7 year old (adhd) and an almost 3 year old. Neither my husband nor I have parents living, so it's hard to find time and energy for any extra cleaning, etc. I've let things go. Your videos help motivate me, though, and I've been able to do small bits at a time. Thank you for the calm, positive, uplifting HONEST videos!

As a seasoned grandmother of 5, the best (unsolicited) advice I can give you going forward is to adhere to a strict rule of having your children put away the toy/game/doll they are currently playing with before they move on to the next. That way each bin you have so lovingly organized stays that way and teaches them that clean up is part of play. You're doing a great job and I love your channel!

I was thinking the same thing! I have also noticed kids tend to not care as much for smaller categories (or if it has to fit into a container just so to put away, so if you notice certain categories keep getting mixed up maybe then you can combine certain categories to make it easier on them to independently clean up and maintain all your amazing work!

You did an amazing job 👏 It is not easy to do that. I look at decluttering now like an onion. You have many layers to go through to get to where you want to be. And definitely go at your own pace. It is not a race. 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there. Whatever you can do is progress. Be proud of that! I'm a hoarder that is on her own journey. I'm proud to say that I can keep the floor in my bedroom clean again.

Hey, just a tip to make it easier for next time, as I’m sure you will go back through your toys again one day, or take it to a different area. If you lay the tubs out first, then as you bring everything to the lounge room, you organise it into categories as you go, it makes decluttering it so much less overwhelming, as you aren’t triple handling it. I did the bulk of the kids toys yesterday, and have a small pile left to sort out. I was hoping to get that done today, but my son was pretty sick, so it’s on pause until later tonight or tomorrow.

Omg...I miss you dearly. I know you are having struggles with your anxiety and depression and plus being a busy momma. So grateful God gave you the strength to get this video up. ❤️❤️❤️. May God keep getting those blessful motivating strides to you. And I agree with you on the perception of minimalism. My husband hoards certain things in our house. I have slowly dissipated from the hoarder concept. I used to hoard greeting cards from my family members. I had a big box of them. My mom saw it, and she gently explained her view on greeting cards. I noted she hoarded things too. But hoarding can be a harsh word to some people. If folks had a childhood where a parent or otherwise took their toys and did not allow kids to enjoy toys or if a traumatic thing (let's say fire happened) occurred to where the kids lost everything but the parents couldn't afford to replace things until maybe 6 months to a year later. Hoarding can stem from all kinds of things. You slowly declutter how you feel it fits you best. We do not know or understand how your mind works, or how your past history caused your mind to allow the idea of hoarding. Regardless, now as an adult to a husband and three kids, you are trying to gently get your heart, mind, and house cleared of all sorts of clutter. I applaud you for sharing this journey!! ❤️❤️

I read you said he is using a categorie at a time now and that s amazing! I rotate toys, as I told you in other comments, so 5 bins out (available), 5 bins away, so that the excitement stays high and the mess is limited. I see you kept baby toys: is it hard for you or for little J. to let them go? I am happy you are back as I follow your progress with interest.

He gets only one bin at a time and we have been sticking to legos and cars for now. Every week I will recommend a new set of bins. It helps to keep him excited and always happy with what he has. As for the baby toys. They are only the educational toys I kept for Jack. He is still learning certain shapes and patterns. I have made good use from those type of baby toys and soon enough I will be able to hand them off for donation. Thanks so much for all of your good advicd always and just being so supportive in my journey of minimalism.♡

Hi Mighty Mama! you can actually ask your kids to help you. Just designate a big box and tell them to put only Cars / Vehicles on that box. and then when they're done. Get another box then tell them to place only plushies inside etc. etc. I think part of the fun in organizing is allowing your kids to be part of the cleaning process. In this way, you also teach them how to clean up after their mess.

Awesome job Laura! 💐💕🎉 Your hard work looks beautiful!!! I'm a micro organizer too, and it does take a while to get through it all. But I also feel like it's a more thorough and easier way of decluttering to see what multiple items can go. Building up those decluttering muscles takes time and a lot of energy. You did a spectacular job finishing it in two days. That's amazing and worth celebrating! I call myself a recovering hoarder and I was once in the same situation with the toys as you. I promise it gets easier as the youngest kids grow up. I've donated so much to family, friends and the schools. Its been a long road trying finish decluttering the rest of my house. Its hard, really hard, especially with lack of energy and the constant distractions of life in general. There was a couple years of feeling sick all the time and just not being able to move at all. I have been quietly following your channel for almost 2 years, and want to remind you that you don't have to apologize for anything! You do what you can when you can. Declutter and organize the way you want to and feels good to you. Its a journey that changes with every goal you set out to finish. When there isn't someone there to physically help during the hard decision making, it's even more difficult. It's okay to not make those decisions immediately. Keep moving forward! Progress over perfection! YOU GOT THIS!!

I came here because my mother lives like this and has lived like this most of my childhood. It ruined my childhood in many ways. I want to understand why people let it get this far. To me it’s disgusting and life crippling. How do you have people over? How do you invite people over for tea or coffee? How do you have an active social life? What about other kids coming over to play with your kids? I mean. It’s selfish and because of the mess at my home, I never had people over because I was embarrassed AF! What about your husband? How can he focus at work when the house looks like this. To you, this is what depression is. To me, this type of environment creates depression. I get anxiety just looking at this and it brings me back to my childhood. Stop buying so much shit you don’t need. You’re ruining your children’s life and I have lived it first hand. Whenever the door bell would ring I would get a heart attack… we’d have to stuff the mess in cabinets before people could come in. I’m literally traumatised from the way my mom lived and it’s pretty close to what you’re doing to your kids as well. Get psychological help! At one point I wouldn’t get invited to bday parties because none of my classmates ever came to my house which is an essential step of making and maintaining friendships. Well into adulthood I have struggled with this aspect of maintaining friendships due to the building blocks my mother has set throughout my childhood. I think mothers like you are simply selfish and disgusting. I will never understand.

I'd like to add something to this. Some of us are unable to get our hands on bins because they are super expensive here is what I have done I went on the USPS website I placed a FREE order of the large flat rate boxes you get a good amount and I opened them all up I used them to help me organize the toys I wasn't going to keep and donated like that. Kill two birds with one stone but I also use these boxes to help me separate and orginze the areas I have decided to work on. 😊❤️

Amandalyn you alwwys have s friend here in me! I am sorry for your struggles. You just always remember that the most important thing is showing your kids you are happy even if you have to fake the smile. They will not care about how the house looks but they will always remember your face and if you were smiling or not. And csring for the children is always too priority! The house comes second! You do a little at a time and evenutally you will get there! I will be bringing more cleaning with anxiety videos. Oh just wait till you see my bedroom! Oh my! Its one of the worst! Do not feel bad about your mess! Love on those kids and slowly go through your grandmothers stuff with her and try to organize it all so it csn be stored somewhere out of sight for now. You need your peace in order to be a fully functioning happy Mama. I am always here. Look out for my live coming soon! Stay up in my community feed for the date and time so you can say hello!♡ Take care and I will always keep you in my prayers everyday!♡

I didn't know you were a storage tote hoarder. You and I, both!! I've always been so embarrassed how I gravitate toward storage containers in the store -- no matter how many I already own. They need to stop making things so 'decorative'. 🤦🏽‍♀️ My mom makes fun of me for having a messy house, chock full of storage options. 🙃 I'm slowly but surely chipping away at it this year, though. I've accomplished quite a bit so far. Having your videos on in the background, definitely makes it easier. 👍🏽❤️

Good morning Rachel! Giiiiiirrrrrllllll! Am I a storage tote hoarder?? I have am just like you! I am immediately drawn to those store aisles of storage containers, bins, totes etc! And yes they make it so pretty looking on the shelves! lol! Well I am working very hard at finding homes for all of my stuff amongst the storage containers I already own and making very sure not to purchase anymore. In fact, not purchasing storage items is one of my goals for this new year. I have to use the ones I have already. I think we enjoy buying them because it gives us the feeling of taking that first step at organizing our home. However, the part of actually doing it seems to take so long or never happen at all! lol! It's so bad but we got this girl! Let's focus on getting our spaces decluttered and choosing our most favorite storage totes to use for each room and then we can always sell them on fb marketplace or have a garage sale or even donate to family or friends later. Don't feel bad I understand you completely! You are definitely not alone in this hoarding struggle! I am going to make a point to stay connected here on community and keep up with my videos. I am currently working on my next video now. Stay tuned and thank you for sticking with me! I appreciate you so much! Have a beautiful productive day! xo

I started minimalism before having kids. So we have very few toys in comparison to most families. Still my son (5) lately told us that he feels like it’s too much. He has problems with focusing and I think three or four categories of toys and crafts (pencils and paper, cars, legos, his toy plane) would be enough for him for daily use. Unfortunately my daughter (3,5) is not ready to let the toddler toys go. So we are rotating the „big kid toys“ (Lego especially) now. So the little one has her stuffies and bricks available and the big brother joins in or asks for „his“ toys. But they just let go a few books and little toys themselves. Hope for more before Christmas:) Two big boxes are great! It is what we probably have in general ;) (Yeah, the video is old, but the struggle is not and I just stumbled upon this channel).
