Messy Ducks? Stop Drilling Solution - No More Mud Around Water Bowls Or Pools

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Welcome duck lovers!
I have been using rubber antifatigue mats with holes under my ducks water bowls since I have had the pleasure of adding ducks to my life.
My ducks have several little pools and tubs to splash in. I know the mucky muddy mess is a problem for most duck owners. Ducks will drill and slop mud into the water, add more water, make more mud, etc.. they will literally stand there for hours making a big muddy mess. In the process creating trip hazards anywhere a water bowl has been. I also plan on adding mats around my pond next summer. Right now I just have the artificial carpet and it is working alright.
Antifatigue mats with holes work well under pool to nearly eliminate the mess altogether. The rubber is soft on their feet and they hold up for a few years even in the sun and changing weather. The poo rinses off easily when changing the pool or tub water, it can also be squirt off with a hose. Not to mention, the pool water stays cleaner for longer!
I had to get new mats this year, as the old ones were 4 years old and starting to crack and break. I came across these blue ones, and they will get the job done! I can even use a sprinkler and mister without the ducks drilling in puddles.
I do lift the mats, once or twice a summer and put some cedar chips underneath them if I notice a smell. It is gone within the day after doing that.

I hope you have a dog, otherwise one of your ducks is barking. I may be mistaken, but cedar wood chips aren’t good for ducks. I think I read that somewhere.

Lol, yes, that is Roxy. She is a puppy. I have some short videos of her and the goat playing. Thankfully you haven't the goat making farting noises yet!. You are correct, cedar is not good for any animal to be used as bedding because it is harmful to breathe if the area is not ventilated. I put cedar chips under the rubber mats, on top of the smelly mud.. so it is well ventilated being outside and no contact between the chips and the ducks. It's all good. I do not use it as bedding.
