Hi there. Thanks for great videos. I have the same amp you show to us, that is packed, for 2.1 with caps on the other side. There is 2 TPA3116, one for sub and one for right and left. Can you please make a video about that amp?

The 3116 shutdown current is supposed to be 50µA... Operating quiescent current is usually 20-50mA (with connected load) so it does seem like that switch might be the mute mode. Or maybe even one of those fake input caps is bad... You can check if the switch mutes/shutdown the chip because removing the power otherwise causes a small pop on the output (the datasheet tells you to put it into shutdown before disconnecting power to minimise the pop). By the way, the normal power-on time is 10ms, 3fast5me.

You could fit a couple of really small fans to the heat sink and it may be ok.

FreshLemunz That Linep thing looks silly expensive for what it is. The Sure Electronics ones, though - they do look interesting. Sure tend to put some effort into the stuff they put their brand upon. Thanks for the links, I might look into them.

Very much possible, look at the data sheet and replace the resistors that control the gain

what is the temperature with a 12v power supply?

  • @FFcossag

Temperature basically scales linearliy with output power, so it's going to be considerably lower since you'll just get about 5 W out of it.

20.48 watts at 8 ohms, not to bad. But still these little amps are a bit disappointing.
