I was 6 years old and sad that they didn't let him be part of the swim team. 😅 After my mom explained that he fell in love, I was even more infuriated that it didn't have a happy ending. I loved that song, along with shout, take on me (the other brutal video where someone is beaten up), Karma Camelion, Come on Eileen and many others 🎉

I was 12 years old when this masterpiece came out. At the time, I remember, your sexual orientation wasn't a problem for us kids, we weren't interested. There were also Boy George, Elton John, George Michael and others without forgetting, even before you, the great Freddie Mercury. We were interested in your art, your music and what you had to say. In truth today is even worse than the 80's. I still listen to your music today, in the car at full volume, as if I were still in the 80s. You are super!! Thanks for all.

Your comment sure resonates for a lot of us! It too suffered a lot of years because of who/what I am. I too came to a point where I just realized that if someone has a problem with who/what I am, THAT'S ON THEM! I stopped allowing the homophobes affect my life. I also clicked in to the fact that a lot of the guys I "played with" when in my teens, were the biggest homophobes in existence. They hid who they really were, using homophobia to deflect, but in "hiding" and under the sheets, they were wild... if you get my drift. In my case, I left my small town and moved far FAR away from the entire family! I made some huge changes that I won't even go into here, except to say, to those sitting and suffering, JUST MOVE AWAY FROM THE TOXICITY! It's YOUR life, NOT theirs!!!! I can't even express the amazing relief to just take control. It clears the mind and one then begins to see just how pathetic and hypocritical those people all were. It's funny, they wanted to control MY life while they couldn't control their own! ROFL The other interesting thing too, is when someone gets away from the toxic people, we take control of our lives and become very VERY successful! Through the years, I noticed, now and then, that those very people who tried to keep me down, were all very unsuccessful and lead miserable lives. I'm not saying that I enjoyed seeing that..... ok... YES I AM! ROFL 👍😁👍

Hello Jimmy.. I remember when I was living in London in early 90s I saw you in a bar in Soho and went up and made a huge dork of myself, exclaiming “OMG Hi! I’m a HUGE fan!” You were kind enough to sort of nod and smile at me, which made my day! I was just wondering the other day what you must make of all those viral “this is my dad showing me how he danced in the ‘80s” clips doing the rounds! The background music is always ‘Smalltown Boy’. Not a day goes by that I don’t still dance around my kitchen to the wonderful PSB or to your hits! Thank you for the lasting legacy you’ve given to the world, and for a kind smile thirty years ago! ❤ love from New Zealand.

Thank you Jimmy, I was 16 when that amazing song ‘came out’ It was the only gay thing I had ever seen or heard and gave me a feeling that there were greater things out there than my stereotypical straight estate. The age of consent album cover ‘words’ were also incredible, I wanted to show everyone around me. You really gave me a kind of warmth that even if I had been ‘found out that I was gay’ it would have been somehow ok. I’m now living in France where they have always been very accepting of gay culture, and yes ‘we’ in some parts of the world are going backwards, so frigging sad. ❤ Andy
