Mick Gordon, who wrote the Doom soundtrack (and is an awesome musician), is apparently heavily influenced by Meshuggah, who've been around since the late 90s and basically wrote the book on djent and "math metal." This particular song is from 2008.

@@TheHylianJuggalo yes. doom's soundtrack is based off of this type of death, i agree but my point still stands, i would not have left that reply if the op said 'doom's soundtrack was based around the same sub-genre of metal that meshuggah uses', instead he said 'This is just DOOM without the electronic bits :D'. if you look carefully you may be able to tell that those two are slightly different. i must applaud your ability to take what i say slightly out of context, my bad for saying 'on any metal track' as opposed to 'any metal track that has a relatively high bpm along with the use of tuned down guitars and double or even triple kick drum pedals...' , i will admit fault for that but you seem to misinterpret the original intent of my reply, it was not to say 'every metal song sounds like doom, please dont say every metal song sounds like doom', it was to point out that on a lot of the quick and djenty stuff, people comment 'this sounds like doom' constantly, which im pretty sure is mostly just people copying other comments and has also been said 20 quadrillion times. i say 'i mean cmon man i know you got better than that' not to try to insult the op, quite the opposite, im trying to make a point that something of more value can be said other than repeating the same words hundreds of other people have said, and that it really does not take much to just innovate even a little. i would end with a snarky remark such as you have but i dont see it necessary.
If Meshuggah could just do the Doom soundtracks one day that'd be the best thing ever

I like how well the bass is mixed in this version, since you can barely hear it in the original mix. That’s why I’ve always liked that sound on some of the older albums like DEI and Chaosphere since you can clearly hear the bass as a separate entity from the guitars.
