Uplink & Downlink not needed for basic channel setup. They affect if you have an MQTT service online and connect to it.. save that for more advanced playing in the future!

I’m very interested in Meshtastic but also very confused. How many modules do I need and which ones? How do you set it all up? Those are just a few questions I have.. I would like to build a private network for my family and I.. That’s my goal here .. Any tips would be great.. Thanks

Just fyi you could have just plugged it into your pc and gone to the Meshtastic page and flashed and controlled from there, including changing the Bluetooth code. That box you bought though is designed to be a remote repeater, so typically the best way to set that up is to not add any channels or special settings, just make sure it’s set to repeat all and put it in an advantageous location. That way if someone finds it they won’t be able to read your messages or know your Bluetooth codes or anything about you so looks like Garth built it to be used that way. But from experience I’ll add that the solar panel looks a little small unless you live in San Diego. Good video though, sub added!
