Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks on the relevance of "The Post" today

Combined, award-winning actors Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks have appeared in more than 100 films. But "The Post" marks the first time they are on screen together. In the movie, Streep plays Katharine Graham, the publisher of the Washington Post, and Hanks portrays legendary editor Ben Bradlee. The plot centers on the paper's famous and difficult decision to publish top secret government information from the Pentagon Papers in 1971. Streep and Hanks join "CBS This Morning" to discuss how the film resonates today.

    What a great film! Some of us in the audience spontaneously gave an applause when Kay' Graham made courageous decisions. The Oscar for Meryl would be wonderful. And thank God for Steven, who made another film that encourages good people to do their utmost to steer History in a decent direction...

    Listening to Meryl Streep here and seeing her on the golden globes I think she is a sweet old lady and people to get old she looks is graceful in it. I mean this with all loving but she is kind of a dork Tom Hanks too, they are humble, kind, and a kind of funny how parents could be. They are genius actors and like all actors they are called to a moment to reveal more of it, and like all geniuses they know what they don't know, they take the slivers of life that they can shine in, and learn the other facets without raising the needless Ire in others ( Your Sean Hannities, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump creepy crawley aside.)

    Daniel Eslsberg and the story behind his leaked 'Pentagon Papers' is indeed a story worth telling. It could be argued that he was a precursor to Julian Assange or Edward Snowden. However, the full story, I feel, probably is a lot more sinister than is know. In terms of modern day journalism....serious, thorough and feerless, unobstructed journalistic integrity is sadly lacking. If this weren't the case, we , the public, we know far more about modern day events (like 9/11 as an example) and numerous events that are seemingly immune from public scrutiny and where do much more facts remain buried.

    Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are perfectly entitled like anyone else in a democracy to express their opinions. If you don’t Like what they have to say then just ignore them. Or is the USA not a democracy any more? Wherever or not I agree With their views, I shall continue to watch their films, as they are two of the best film stars, not just at the moment, But have been for a long time. It is so sad that these days people can not disagree with each other without making Vicious and nasty personal attacks.

    As for The Post, won't see this film - nothing I've read about it addresses the issue of the PPs' authorship and honesty - most analysts I respect call the PPs a "limited hangout", e.g., "Although it probably did not cross Ellsberg's mind when he released the Pentagon Papers to The New York Times, he succeeded in doing what the Agency, on its own, has rarely been able to do for more than twenty years: he made the CIA 'look good' through what inhabitants of the Pickle Factory themselves would call a 'highly credible source'." from ratical.org/ratville/JFK/ST/STchp8.html THE SECRET TEAM The CIA and Its Allies in Control of the United States and the World L. I used to like them both, but their disrespect toward Trump, as they sat on their moral high seat, talking down to his supporters, as if THEY are the authority on who has good character, while buddying up with Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and others, showed them in a whole new light.

  • @wylier

    @wylier

    6 жыл бұрын

    Actually, neither of them claims to have any 'authority' on good character. And consider that it was only AFTER this movie wrapped that Harvey got slammed with these allegations. If they were such bad folks (tom and meryl), why are they still getting work?

  • @Maverikk68

    @Maverikk68

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, they did act like the authority on good character. You seriously need to start thinking before you post if you don't understand how Hollywood and it's liberal retards work.

  • @wylier

    @wylier

    6 жыл бұрын

    I actually have been closely following show business, and it's workings, for many years now. The end goal of Hollywood is simply to make money with its end product - just like virtually every other industry! Secondly, not all of Hollywood are devout liberals. Clint Eastwood, Sonny Bono, and Jon Voight are / were conservatives, for example.

  • @Maverikk68

    @Maverikk68

    6 жыл бұрын

    Well, if you were actually following it as you claim, then you would be well aware that Jon Voight has said the same thing about liberal retardation in Hollywood. You'd also understand the workings, which you obviously don't, with Clint Eastwood. He works today because he has his own production company and is his own director. If that wasn't the case, Clint would have seen his career dry up the same way Charlton Heston's did. Sonny Bono is not a relevant example. Ask Tim Allen. Explain to him how you are "in the know" about how Hollywood works, and get back to us about what he tells you! lol

  • @wylier

    @wylier

    6 жыл бұрын

    But Jon has been working pretty much steadily since the late 60s, altho probably less active nowadays. That means he was working right alongside with the 'liberals' that he (supposedly) couldn't stand, and vice versa! And Clint may be working independently, but his films are still released by the big studios. Sonny Bono is a perfectly relevant example, as he was big in two mediums: music and TV, both of which have great similarities to - and connections with - the film industry that you vilify. Not sure what Tim Allen is supposed to represent here, as he was the star of a recent sitcom ("Last Man Standing"). Nice try, "Mav", better luck next time!

    I heard this is Harvey Weinsteins last film before all this crazzzyness happened...... looks like an awesome film but I know a lot of people are going to skip it because of him....... I hope before they sentence him they will look at all the great films he created and then let him do community service in a womens shelter or animal hospiatal...if thats fair.

    I’ll bet it flops. She ruined her own career for letting politics get into it. Bye Bye Meryl.

    For some reason I can't stand Meryl Streep nowadays. I instantly fall in line for any Spielberg film with Hanks in it.
